Where was he?!
Mimi looked at her kittens once again, sniffed them just to be sure but no, one of them was definitely missing. She knew that humans sometimes brought kittens inside for care but she hadn’t seen any humans recently and didn’t smell them nearby.
He was just a wee thing not many sunrises old- he was the weakest kit it wouldn’t do for him to be wandering off on his own, it wasn’t safe. But what could she do? She had other kittens to worry about and it’d be a fool thing to take them off on a search- and possibly worse to leave them unattended.
She had to hope he’d find his way back, or maybe someone else would find him and have the heart to bring him back. And if not… well she knew kittens died all the time but it was her first litter and she couldn’t bear the thought of it.
She called out to him, to anyone who would listen but to no avail.
“Mi! Miow! Yow!!” Her cries rising in pitch, echoing throughout the ruins until hours passed and her voice grew hoarse it was a dead feeling as any hope drained out of her.

“Mimi, ro row mroe” it was another cat, the father of the kittens. He dropped something at her feet and left. Something small and soft, prey was it? But she knew better, it was the cold, limp body of her son.
This was it, pain, horror, sorrow. She’d never felt anything like it, there were no words to describe it only a yowl that rang through the chasm. One that everyone knew and hated to hear- the sound of pure grief.

The night was young, the stars twinkled brightly, the winds no louder than a whisper. A derelict barn lay still amongst the tall grass yet sounds of whispering were coming from within. A clowder of cats gathered around a stack of haybales, whispering to each other waiting for the judging to begin. An elderly cat climbed atop the bales and the whispers stopped. 'Bring forth the accused' he stated feebly. The cats parted as the accused was led by two warriors towards the front, the cats growling and staring in hatred. 'Eleanor, you have been found guilty of stealing the sacred artifact from the clan.' Her eyes darted towards the figure hidden in the shadows, smiling a twisted smile and chuckled maniacally to himself. One word ran through her head, 'betrayal'. The friend she'd trusted with her life, the one she could confide in, gone like a ghost in the dark. Having her world crumble underneath her, many emotions coursed through her body, none of which she could understand. Choking back the tears that threatened to fall and her with head hanging low she barely listened to the rest of the ruling but she caught one dreadful word 'exile'. She'd lost trust in one placed she called home.

Prompt; A clifftop below dark skies cloaked with large black clouds, paired with harsh winds striking against the grass and leaves of the tree, whistling loudly.

This was the perfect mood for such a battle field, the tortoiseshell thought with a smug look as she advanced from the tree she was sitting atop, alongside her leader, a cream and gray tortoiseshell named Tempest.

Behind them followed strong shouldered warriors, ready to battle. Of course, as savage as these felines looked, they were not without tradition.

"Let us leaders fight upon the cliff," the cream tortoiseshell said. Ember looked at her leader, nodding her head in agreement.

Then the battle ensued.

Loud meows of anger, rage, and sadness followed, paired by the sound of tufts of fur ripping. Ember herself had fought off two warriors, swearing for justice as she watched her companions fall.

After gaining her breath, she turned towards the cliff, observing the fight Tempest engaged in. The two felines were skilled, circling one another, scoping each other out. Unlike other fights, thoughts were running through their minds to calculate each move.

Ember's eyes squinted as the other foe made a motion towards the cliff. Her ears pinned back as Tempest was grasped by the scruff, and turned towards the cliff.

What a dirty play! The tortoiseshell screamed internally before darting for the cliff. She rolled forward, her hind legs instinctively kicking the feline that had thrown Tempest over the edge aside.

Mouth open, she swung her head over the cliff, ready to grab her friend's scruff. Her lips grazed the fur of her cream scruff before Tempest began to plummet into the water below.

"No!" She yowled out, her eyes widening.

Guilt.

I had her in my JAWS! Ember thought angrily, dropping to her chest. She looked at the water below, contemplating diving in, but she regretfully shook her head.

The Tides are too high. If I jumped, I would die too. Im si sorry, Tempest. The tortoiseshell thought regretfully. She placed her head upon her paws, quivering as the moon began to set upon the tragedy.

Pure. Guilt. Is all Ember continues to feel.

huddled up in her den located on the outskirts of the crowder, esha curled into a ball and tried not to let her emotions brim over. there were always moments like these every few days -- her emotions would get to the tipping point and she would just bask in the worthless feelings of envy and abandonment, watching the other cats in the crowder who had families and not a care in the world.

at the sound of kits sparring with eachother, esha peeked her head up from her den and watched them. back and forth they ran, chasing eachother around the pond and into their parents den. in the den their parents rested together, chastising their kits to be careful.. it was a past and future that esha envied. the parents, for the love they had together and the life they created. and the kits, for a kithood she would never have due to being abandoned on the edge of the crowder by her parents. she didn't understand why she was unwanted.. the question of why would haunt her for years to come.

This was a really tough decision- but ultimately I felt this answer would really bring a lot to the table in terms of character development and story going forward.
