Cocoa couldn't stand seeing River this upset, and all because some stallion didn't want anything to do with her. She let out a frustrated sigh and trotted over to River, nuzzling her gently. River's head hung low, and Cocoa nudged her again, more playfully this time, as Cocoa jumped a little to try and get River to play with her. River looked up, one eyebrow cocked, and let out a little snort, nudging Cocoa back, and Cocoa barked excitedly. She quickly cantered off, River chasing after her, and the two of them chased each other until the sun hung low in the twilight. Cocoa had successfully distracted her sad friend, and now the two of them could rest in the sweet, soft grass of the meadow, sleeping soundly.

Gerry could hear her stamping before he saw her; in the copse beyond the river, hidden among the overgrown bushes and trees, she had the privacy to express her distress, but he didn't have the heart to leave her alone. Not today.

He'd taken a leaf out of Fugitive's book, stealing a lovely ripe apple from the humans that cared for them - it was for the greater good, honest, perhaps the word commandeer was better? - and quietly approached, head slung at an easy, non-threatening, non-combative angle, and his offering cradled delicately between his teeth. It wouldn't do to damage it, after all!

a frown worried my brow as i watched deirdre mope
around. today was valentine's day.. yet she was so
sad. this just wouldn't do. i needed to cheer her up
and i had just the idea.. putting together my special
bowl of raspberries and raspberry jam in a heart-
shaped dish, i take them to the barn with the berries
hidden behind my back.

as soon as i enter, her ears perk up and she turns to
look at who's coming. as soon as she sees it isn't
who she wanted, she turns away with a pout. tsking
to myself, i move to her stall and wait for her to
look at me before bringing the dish out and presenting
it to her. instantly her eyes light up and she lets out a
whinny of excitement, elongating her neck out and
touching her nose to my fingers.

i let out a laugh and skate my hand across her nose
before opening the container and giving her a berry.

it may not cure a broken heart.. but it's progress.
