Name: Royal Roses in Snow/ Rose
Name Meaning: (optional)
Gender:Female
Prompt: Rose walked quietly on the leash with her new handler, glancing nervously around the area. Once she realized there were many dogs, her ears pricked forward, alert and ready to play. Her tail wagged in greeting, bouncing on her paws, eager to get off the lead. Once she heard the lead click off, she took off to explore her new home before glancing at the dogs that were looking at her hesitantly. “Hi everyone, I’m Rose!” the pup barked, clearly wanting to make friends. “I’m excited to meet and play with everyone!” she continued before getting distracted by a scent. “Is it mealtime?” she asked, and when the other dogs ran over to the handlers, she did as well.

Name: a soul never meant to break / mania
Name Meaning: mania means the mother of souls
Gender: female
Prompt:
(776/1000 words) [got a little off prompt, hope it still counts!]
the sun was bright in the sky by the time mania finally reached the edge of the forest. she glanced up and sighed at the steep hill in front of her. manias paws already ached, but she had traveled to far to give up now. so she stumbled forward, each step heavier than the last. finally, she crested the top of the hill.
most collies would say she was running from something, with the scared look in her eyes and the constant ear twitching, but she would say she was simply on a wonderful adventure. so when her eyes fell upon the settlement, a small smile graced her lips. she traced the outline of collies running in the field and basking in the sun. yeah the weather was warm and the sky was blue, but she couldn’t lounge in the sun just yet. she stumbled forward slightly forgetting that her paws were aching. the noise caught the attention of a few collies, some jumping up from the grass to catch a closer look. a sable curly collie trotted forward. his head was high and he walked with confidence.
mania stayed where she was, nervously glancing around to see if any other collies would move forward, but none did. once he finally reached her, his gaze kind but apprehensive. “howdy! how can i help ya’ this fine day?” he had a large soft smile on his face, a welcoming sight for mania.
“oh um, i’m just wondering, y’know. i-i smelt some dogs a ways back and had to know where it was coming from, didn’t even know that there was a settlement out here!” that was only half true- she had caught a whiff of collies a mile back, but she already had this place in mind. back at her old pack, she had heard stories of collies escaping to a “sanctuary” in the northern mountains. she wanted that safe place, craved a new family to be apart of. maybe even reconcile with some old pack mates. she snapped back to reality though, “i’m mania, uh, i came from the south.”
the curly collie’s smile grew, and his nervous look faded away to something,,, softer. “ah, i see. well, welcome to the sanctum mania! my name’s alvar, i’m one of the originals here. why dont i show you around, we get some collies from the south every now n’ then.” alvar motioned mania to follow and started walking down the hill. a few collies had lied back down to suck in the warmth, but some still remained curious about the new face. mania was a little self conscious, she knew her pelt was matted and filled with mud, caked up over weeks of running. and don’t even get her started about her scent, even after the long trip she could smell herself.
maybe it wasn’t the best idea to zone out, as one wrong step had her stumbling into alvar from behind. she tumbled to the ground, legs thrown into the air and her face smushed uncomfortably into the dirt. if dogs could blush, mania would be beet red. her embarrassment only got worse when she heard alvar bark out a laugh. she heard some paws trot closer and looked up to a silver collie standing over her. to make matters worse, this new face seemed to be holding in laughter, their chest vibrating with just barely contained giggles.
“need a paw?” the new face said, “i’m sure i could lend one or two.” the silver collie had no shame it seemed, as her voice leaked with mirth. before waiting for an answer, she flipped mania over and back onto her belly. the collie then crouched down to perch next to mania, their pelts brushing slightly. “welcome to the sanctum! you can call me leto and judging by that scene, i think you’ll fit right in.” leto smiled, wide and all teeth. mania couldn’t tell if she like leto or not yet, but she was enjoying the brush off of her failure.
alvar appeared on the other side, a similar smile like leto’s pulling his maw up. there was no anger seen in his eyes, even though mania tumbled into him. “lets get you off your paws and settled down. leto, since you offered you can help. welcome to the family mania.” his eyes were soft and as both the sanctum collies helped mania up, she couldn’t help but feel at home. she may not call them her pack yet, let alone family, but mania doubted it would take to long before those words became associated with the settlement. and she couldn’t wait for that to happen.
