Ashlynn comes from the mountains, in a specific clearing, where they can always see the sky. They had always been told to never ever enter the cave which had jagged teeth. But curious as always, Ashlynn decided that it was time to know what was in the cave. It was at night to which Ashlynn snuck away from the group and out into the open towards the cave. Setting their paws down lightly, they crept towards the cave. Once they got to it, they stopped, glancing to and fro to make sure no one saw before sneaking inside.

When they were only a few minutes into the cave and it had become pitch black, they felt small bits of fear crawling at their back, snapping and biting. With no choice they turned around to flee only to run into a wall. Looking around in despair, they let out a wail. Their wail echoed back at them, as if taunting them. Turning in a circle, they settled down to weep till an idea dawned on them: echoes! With that idea they started letting out yips and from there they could figure out where the entrance was. With their hope slowly restoring, they raced up the incline and towards the entrance. When they stepped out, their pelt had turned from a smokey gray to a bright yellow from halfway down their back to their tail which flickered brightly. Their hope had been restored, even if they never learned what had actually slept in the dark depths. Perhaps it was just their fear of the dark, and the hope in which they found that destroyed such fear.

In between two mountains, there lies a large clearing with a small lake and Kenji's home. Born as a hunter, he has learned to respect and appreciate nature, both for its beauty and terrifying qualities. Far from the other Keldine's homes, he was often visited by his relatives saying that he should move closer to them and it isn't great living alone, all Kenji could do was nod and say that he would think about it.

One dark and cloudy night, Kenji decided to go on a stroll, sitting comfortably on his head was his little friend and only companion, Carrot the sparrow. The thought of moving tore Kenji's spirit because it would mean that he had to leave Carrot, as this was his home. Carrot, sensing the dilemma of his friend, nipped at the Keldine's hair and flew to the tall grass, disappearing from Kenji's sight. With a sigh, he plopped down on the ground exhausted from thinking about this problem all day long, the sky was getting darker and the only visible light was from himself.

His ears perked up at Carrot's chirp, as he looked up, he was greeted by small flickering lights. Hundreds of tiny, gleaming lights all around him- it was fireflies! The dark and gloomy field turned into a bright and magical one, leaving Kenji in awe and tears of happiness. He figured that it was Carrot's way of saying 'it's going to be alright'. This was his home, this was why he chose to settle here- because he was closest to nature and Kenji couldn't believe he forgot that reason. That night, Kenji was running and dancing with the fireflies and Carrot, it was his greatest memory and one that he is thankful for the most. "I'm already staying where I'm happy!"

Another monotone day has yet again begun in this cave, or has it? Aether couldn’t tell anymore. His mouth was dry but he wasn’t thirsty, his stomach sore but not hungry.
It was truly a curse to be in this cave. But days used for damming the very keldines that banished him here were useless days to him. Aether needed to get up eventually, circling around the one streak of light in the cave to stay warm.
Today, it seemed that anger had finally taken hold of his soul, willing him to rage.
Smashing himself into the stone walls, his scales screeching against the stone.
Whipping his tail against the rocks with a striking whoop.
After four lashes, a loud crackle echoed around the cave.
Quickly, Aether could feel the smolder of fire crawling up his tail and towards his back.
He howled and cried in pain, the flames biting him aggressively as they slowly devoured his tail. Within seconds the fire streamed into his body, setting ablaze to his eyes, scales, and paws.
He wept out loud, even if he knew no one was listening.
Asking, begging, pleading for help.
Suddenly, when he felt most dejected, the pain ceased. His vision returned, and he skittishly looked at his tail in fear.
Frighteningly, his tail was still burning with light.
As he regained his breath, he slowly turned to the now dimly lit cave.
As much as he wanted to stay and question all of the last 30 seconds, who was to know how long this tail-light would last?
Harnessing his strength, he lifted himself off the ground and limped down the dull cave hallway.

Well, to explain the reasoning behind what brought her hope, first I must explain what caused her to need hope in the first place.
She was originally living in a forest, has been there since she was just a pup. She was happy there for years and years. though, suddenly, as if she was thrown off her feet into Madness, there was a huge drought, which not only caused famine, but ended up starting a huge forest fire within the Forest, she barely made it out alive, and got very burnt from the flames, and once the fire ceased, she found her beautiful home gone. She was distraught. her whole life had burn to the ground is such a short amount of time. She didn't want to leave the home she loved so much, so she would return each night to where she grew up each night and slept among the ashes. it was weeks until the drought finally ended.
Once it finally did, however, nature rose up, in the form of a small Dandelion brushing against her nose in the breeze one morning as she awoke. She realized her home was not lost.. her home was still here! It was just growing into a new form. She knew that even if times change, she could always grow back, and possibly even stronger, just like her home. She now styles her tail Similarly to fire, proud that challenges she faced, as they did make stronger in the end, just as the challenges in the future will make her stronger as well.

prompt; Hope? Hope never came easy. No, no, hope was a scarcity. A fairy tale. A fabled make-believe that only children and fools believed in. For Chryses it served as a secret promise to himself. To keep hope. To keep pushing. To keep feeling, to keep being genuine to himself, regardless of what fate has in store. Often times he finds himself lost in thought, being dragged from meetings to luncheons, then more meetings and lessons, rarely is he ever allowed a single moment of true rest. His mother would have insisted on it, were she still present. In fact she would see him as the strapping young kel he's grown into. She would reassure him that his father's footsteps do not have to be filled overnight. Tucking a piece of long hair behind his ear as she hummed. What would mother say?

"It is always darkest before dawn, little one."

Her voice sweet as honey wraps his mind like a warm blanket. The comforting scratch of a record as the sound ebbs into your favorite song. Chryses places a paw over his chest, his ears deaf to the droning of his father to the delegates, and the hint of a smile curls on his lips.

The words of his mother will always give him hope. . .

When they were very young they had gotten separated from their parents and found themself desperately lost. For a greater part of the day they had been freaking out, anxiety growing as they realized that nothing was familiar, that nothing was even remotely similar to where they lived. They'd always been told that if they'd gotten lost to just stay where they were and that would make it easier for their parents to find them than if both parties were wandering around.
But the light was escaping from the sky and no one had come. They had been calling out all day, but their voice was hoarse, and their spirits were so very, very low.
They knew they shouldn't sleep but they were so tired it was hard to keep their eyes open.
They didn't really notice but soon it was dark, nothing but the glow of the moon and stars lighting up the sky.
The sky.
It was in that that they found something familiar, something comforting. Their grandfather used to tell them stories about the constellations and how it was possible to navigate using the stars. Hope began to grow and they jumped to their paws, frantically scanning the sky for the patterns. Perseus, their favorite constellation, hung over the mountains by their home. With renewed hope, they began running after the constellation, lining it up how they'd always seen it this time of year.
They'd been able to get back to familiar territory and were reunited with their family. Every night Perseus looks to the stars, drawing comfort from the soft glow, always feeling that same surge of hope when their eyes land on their constellation.
