halloween. a time for mischief and ghost stories and the sweet promise of candy hangovers.

and for one collie, it brought with it the promise to see her absolute best friend in the world: bandit. it was as much a tradition for the pair to meet up on halloween as carving pumpkins and trick-or-treating was to humans. every year since they were born - even if that meant a jail break from their homes to go and meet up. that had been the case this year for benny, sneaking outside while her humans tried to get another one of kennelmates into a costume, and then up and over the wall, rushing to her and bandit's usual meeting place. there was a crackle in the air, the energy that only comes around on this night once a year.

slowing from a run, benny grinned as she caught sight of her partner in crime already waiting for her in the little forest clearing. with the night stretched out long ahead of them, they spared a few minutes to roughhouse with each other before taking a bit to decide what they'd get up this year. game plan figured out, the duo made their way out from the forest back into town, matching each other step for step.

it wasn't long until they came across a group of teenagers and bandit turned her head to give benny a wide doggy grin, and benny took the signal to slink into the shadows. she knew immediately what bandit meant for her to do. as bandit sat pretty in front of the group, benny watched the one dressed as a witch hold out the stick she was holding for a wand, and ... one, two, now! sprung from the shadows to snatch it from her hand, turning and dropping into a play bow.

the game of keep away was fun for a while, the teenagers ranging from amused to annoyed as the pair ran by each other and passed the wand back and forth effortlessly. but it was only a stick, and the teenagers soon realised that they could easily pick up another one, and the game ended, much to both collies annoyance. dropping the stick, now having lost it's value, the pair set off again, knowing what they they looking for next: a pumpkin.

there were pumpkins everywhere, you see, carved but annoying lit. neither of them really fancied a burned tongue, but pumpkin was just so delicious ... they had to find Some to take. stalking along the shadows of the fence, benny woofed as she caught sight of her perfect opportunity: the pumpkins this yard didn't smell like wax - the flame inside was from a plastic candle.

stealthy making their way into the garden, the pair stole a pair of pumpkins and made their way to the spot in the forest benny had thought would be perfect for scaring children. but a pair hardly seemed like enough ... and the yard had had so many. so a second trip was made, during which a voice yelled at them from the opening door. the pair hardly seemed to mind as they fled and returned to their little base. the plastic candle rolling safely onto the grass and they quickly began to tuck in to the yearly delight. giddy from the theft, benny chewed down her share of the first pumpkin quickly, and stepped back - leaving bandit to have her fill - tail wagging in a blur as she threw her head back and howled. nearby, several children screamed, and the pair grinned at each other as they swore they heard the word 'werewolf' get tossed around.

everyone had such amazing forms, it was hard to choose just one pair to award these collies to! however, paopu and southern sweetie took a very vivid turn from the prompt and provided such a detailed story of mischief (and misadventure) that they stood out among the rest. congratulations to the both of you for winning this pair of creatures!

and congratulations to everyone who entered as well - all of you provided such well thought out stories and artwork, often telling stories of hardships and familial bonding, that I couldn't let you all walk away empty handed - I'd like to offer everyone runner-up semi custom collies! these collies will also be related, but will not have the same markings as the two you entered for - each pair is welcome to come up with a new 'theme' to base their collies on, or simply provide a couple of markings they're interested in.
here's how to claim your pair:
- try and come up with a unifying theme with your partner. maybe you'd like two dark coated collies that blend into the night, or perhaps you'd like for them to be 'ghosts and spirits'!
- have one person from each partnership message me (discord is preferred) with a theme name and/or the basic unifying features (ie, ghost and spirit - both high white, one with Kb ghost markings, spirit has blue eyes). you may also each choose a single breed specific marking and specify a base coat color (black and red, blue and silver), but you may not design their entire coats.
