personality upon meeting: this filly is shy but when you get to to the side of the pen shes in she starts to suckle on your fingers looking for milk earlier one of the other volunteers had told you that this filly was now an orphan her mother was killed in the barn due to lack of health care, some one hands you a bottle and you start to feed the small foal and she is grateful you go to rub her cheek but she shy's away taking a step back.

Prompt: The first thing I would do is see if any of my mares would accept her as their own. None of them are currently nursing, so if they did accept Rose, I would use a harness to hang milk bottles from the mare to make sure Rose associates the mare with milk. If a mare accepts Rose as her own, Rose will have a better development in the long run. However, that does not take care of the current problems Rose has. When preparing bottles of milk replacement for Rose, I would mix in as many of her medications and supplements as I safely can. This way she will just naturally digest the medications. Knowing that Rose is shy, I would try to stay outside of the stall. The most important thing in these first 24 hours is making sure she has the nutrients and medications she needs as well as ensuring that she and my mare bond. Getting her used to human presence can wait for a while longer.

I'd then cover a blanket over the filly to keep her warm as she doesn't have the warmth of her dam. Afterward, I'd let her out in the pasture, as keeping foals in stalls for long periods of time is bad for them unless they are newborn. I'd fill her water during this time while also keeping a close eye on her. Then, I'd spend some time with her, letting her get used to me.

If the foal is rejected, i would create a schedule that would have me feed them 4-6 times a day. Doesn't matter if its 2 am in the morning, i would do everything in my power to care for this foal. I'd keep a foal blanket on them until they are able to provide their own heat. Once i feel they are old enough i'd place them with other rejected orphan foals so that they aren't lonely and have a few friends to play with. They would get to play outside all day under close super-vision. They are only put up at night, for feedings, or if it's wet and cold outside. Within that time period, i would halter train her and bond with her and keep her as entertained as possible. I would keep in touch with a vet in case something happens and for weekly updates.
