Zore lowered her head, her throat hoarse from howling. She needed a drink, but unfortunately the Nethos is in the middle of one of the worst droughts it's ever had. The guild leaders gathered all the arcanthera that have water-summoning passive abilities and has them working to end the drought. Of course, that would really only be a temporary solution. The very few arcanthera that have water based abilities would never be able to sustain the entirety of the Nethos for very long. They needed a more permanent answer. And, apparently, that answer was her. She raised her head to howl again, and a beautiful song erupted from her throat. She waited for a moment once she finished, hoping that she would feel a raindrop. But nothing happened. She sighed, exhausted, and collapsed on the spot.
"I'm... sorry..." She whispered before falling unconscious.
Zore awoke to the disappointed face of her guild leader. She quickly scrambled to her feet, and opened her mouth to speak. The guild leader raised his paw to silence her.
"Zore, what are you doing?" He asked.
"I'm so sorry," She began, "I was working, but the heat was too much, and I collapsed. I didn't mean to."
He started to say something, but was cut off by a panfaeric warrior landing nearby. The large pandemona pushed Zore behind his wings as he got into a fighting stance.
"Run."
She was barely able to hear him, but once the word registered, she took off. They were on a small island, surrounded by a small ring of water that was luckily shallow enough for her to run through. She ran, terrified, back to her guild.
"Help! Rial is being attacked!" Zore shouted once she entered the guild.
"Where is he?" Valki, a pandemonic warrior asked.
"Out on the island I was stationed at. A panfaera ambushed us," She explained quickly. "He told me to run, and I didn't know what to do so I came here."
"I'll go check on him. There's probably more panfaera nearby," Said Grato, a visiting pangelic. He rushed out of camp, spreading his wings and getting ready for takeoff.
Zore waited anxiously for their arrival, feeling incredibly guilty that Rial was in danger. If she hadn't passed out then he would probably be safe. Grato returned to camp late in the day, carrying Rial on his back. He didn't look good. One of his hind legs was bent at an odd angle, the membrane on both of his wings was torn, and he was bleeding heavily from several injuries. Zore looked at them horrified. One of the other guild members asked if Rial was alive. Grato sadly shook his head. The others lowered their heads in grief, while Zore raised hers. She howled her despair into the sky, sending shivers down everyone's spine. As a tear slowly trickled down her face, she felt a drop on her head. The rain had come.
