The other molly stirred at her love’s voice, turning in the nest to look into Riverpebble’s eyes as she blinked the sleep from her own.

“Mmn, yes?” Surfpelt yawned, giving a soft smile at Riverpebble’s apologetic purr.

“Sorry, I didn’t mean to--”

“It’s alright, dear; what’s on your mind?

Riverpebble blushed in the darkness of the hollow, and blushed brighter when Surfpelt gave her a nuzzle on the cheek; the huntress was known for being a bit grumpy, but had nothing but softness for her Riverpebble.

“I was thinking of how we met, love,” she answered after a moment, smiling at Surfpelt’s quiet, raspy laugh.

“Which part, the part where you were so distracted by me, and nearly fell into the river?” Surfpelt gently teased, her smile bright in the dark.

“Oh no, I was remembering when you left me a plump vole, but I was busy looking at you and trod on it, and was so flustered I walked into a tree,” Riverpebble answered with a giggle, and Surfpelt joined in, each delighting in the memories.

Nestled close together and smiling, both cats drifted back to sleep, wrapped in each other’s paws and adoration.

i can see
love letters carried by larks
words of cursive strung together
to create an art piece
against ivory

i can see it all..
being, traded back and forth
back.
then forth, again

endless pages written
by a princess and prince
no longer meant to be

for.. reality had once been bright
adorned with stars
and constellations alike..
love had once been a beautiful thing
but now.. it’s not

a fairytale pair
brought together
by kings and queens

a marriage..
so beautifully arranged

However, it was never like that in the past. Puzzle was distant. She didn’t know how to interact or socialise well and some felt she was quite the odd-ball. However, as time helped to warm her up, her true personality started to show as she started to get used to the routine better.

"Stars, no." Lené gasped, shaking her head. Easy laughter sprung, melodic and soft. Familiar. "What I'd give to be there."

"You could join me."

Their gazes locked. The silence speaking the world, uttering words that couldn't be said. A moment of understanding between close friends, best friends since kithood, one who knew the other inside-and-out. Fears, insecurities, secrets. Everything.

"I love you, Ali." A gentle breath in, soft blue eyes lingering. "But I can't."

“I know.” It was complicated. She was the regent of the King's diplomatic relations... and Lené was the rebellion's leader. Their goals... agendas took them on separate paths. She was to disable the rebellion through any means necessary. This meeting, if they were caught, could cost them everything. It was dangerous.

Treason.

It was like the old adage─all is fair in love and war. Destinies intertwined with lines drawn in the sand.
Friends, but forever rivals, loyal to their respective causes till the end. Till death.

She rested her head against Lené's shoulder. "I love you, too."
