today i finally moved closer to you. living by the beach has been a dream of mine since i was little! it's so peaceful and beautiful, i will never get tired of the sound of your waves and the glow of the morning sun on that sparkling blue water. i plan on spending the days on my porch watching you dance and play in the sunshine and quietly sing lullabies by the moonlight. for now though i have to finish setting up my apartment then i can relax and maybe go down to visit your shore. [96]

it's almost the height of summer, i've now settled into my new place pretty well. i've been so busy i don't have much time to write in this journal but i promised myself i would keep up with it this year! i'll try harder these coming months, i've been spending a lot of time in the water, it's so nice just being able to grab a towel and go walk down to the sand. a dream come true, i met quite a few people who have been keeping me busy as of late. speaking of which i have a beach picnic planned and i have to start getting ready! until next time. [112]

something's wrong with my eyes.. everyday i'm struggling to see, i don't know what it is though i did get quite a bit of san in my eye the other day while i was in the water. i'm kind of scared. i'm going to the doctor later today, even now though i can't see the paper clearly so this is all i'm going to write for today. hoping for better days. [71]

glass, the doctor said i had glass in my eyes and it's damaging my corneas and other parts. they were able to remove the glass from my left eye but my right one.. i'm losing my sight slowly. he said there is a slight chance that my body will work fast enough to heal around the glass and prevent it from moving any more but he said not to be too hopeful and i may be blind in my right eye, and my left is damaged to the point where things are blurred and colors are dull. he says there's a 10% chance my eye may heal back to normal but highly unlikely.. still hoping for better days [118]

the world is dull gray and blue, looking at water for too long makes me sick now. though i still love the cool breeze and soft sounds it gives me, i don't like going into the water anymore since the light makes it hard to see as it is. my friends are doing their best to make me feel better and introducing me to new hobbies but i've lost a lot due to something i loved so much. i don't hate you but i won't forgive you for this. [89]

can you sea me?
you didn't use to to stare at me with such fright
now you worry your little head through the night
would i swallow you whole?
or make you search for something i stole?

now you stand just out of reach
just to listen to me preach
your eyes still alight
you're straying closer just not quite

i call to you, hoping one day
you'll wade into my waters for child's play
though for now you just sit
waiting for me to split

Phiom Nšari parted her lips, bubbles escaping from her mouth as she exhaled. She closed her eyes, concentrating on ancient words and images that flickered through her mind from ancient texts she had studied tirelessly for centuries. Nšari felt balanced and relaxed. The sea is ever so unpredictable. Some nights, the ocean waves are as still as a stone, on others, the waves are as wild as the whipping wind on a western desert. It has a visually pleasing exterior, a calming aura, and a peaceful facade, but behind that illusion, there is danger and destruction. For some, the ocean is a refuge, a place of meditation, however, for many its mystery inspires fear or even curiosity. Forever bound to the ocean waves, Phiom Nšari calls this ocean her home. She has a supernatural grip on the elements of the water. She embodies this illusion of the sea, and her desirable strength creates curiosity among younger mages. However, her experience as an ancient mage disconnects her from modern approaches and hinders her ability to see the good in mortals and their technology growth.

She sighed, returning to the surface, where a beaming hot sun beat down on her deep aqua and emerald-tinted fur. Phiom Nšari shot her eyes open, eyes set on a harbor floating along the coastline of Egypt in the port city of Tamiat, which with time the mortals had renamed to Damietta. The docks were bustling, people shuttling crates and barking orders at each other, prepping their ships. Her eyes burned with fury. For her entire life, earthly beings had created only destruction to her precious ocean, and she was sure whatever they were preparing for had malicious intent. Only days earlier had they polluted her water with harsh chemicals from a source unknown to her. Fish and local wildlife near the openings of the Nile Delta were being affected by the runoff, which prompted her to act quickly. She flushed the water from these rivers, completely dry to the touch.

With these rivers dried, her ocean had slowly begun to return to normal, sick fish became happy and active again, and seaweed and algae beamed in their natural color. However, these new preparations worried her. She clicked her tongue impatiently as she pondered her next course of action. Her floppy hair floated gently on the surface as she used her long, whip-like tail to propel herself. She paced along the surface of the Mediterranean Sea, a clan of bubbles following in her wake. As she scanned the land, her mind wandered, her anxious thoughts overtaking her.

Nsari stopped in her tracks, staring at the dock once again. Suddenly, she felt a shiver consume her body. A buzz rang in her ears for a slight moment before an unknown voice called to her in her head. She ignored the pesky voice summoning her to the shoreline; she believed it to only be her anxious thoughts consuming her, as no being had summoned her for centuries.

relationship with the sea:
May 20th 14000
the oceans had been rising rapidly and the sands creating havoc on land, me and my partner Agave tried to stop the apocalypse but it didn’t work. The apocalypse descended on us from above and below. The sandstorms ripped through the earth and it became ruins. Still today we have to control the sand and the sea. I was embarked on a journey to find the heart of the sea and calm it as it was naturally born to me.

May 21st 14000
I look over the edges of the rocking boat to spot small fish and sea mammals. I look over my shoulder and see no one there. I dive over the side of the ship to swim. I swim through the dark depths of the ocean that had rose many moons ago. I use my strong legs and my waterproof tail to swim though the dark waters. I hear the sounds of whales and dolphins clicking and talking to one another. I smiles as my ocean green eyes spot small fish. I dive after them and catch a couple. As I rise to the surface I pick up speed and leap onto the ship.

April 3rd, 14000
the ships bow was creaking as I pad out of my room. I sport the low fog on the ship and spot my associate Isabelle a silvery Kalon and her friend Ally. Us three have been sailing towards the seas heart for over three months. I look over the deck and think about my boyfriend Agave fighting the sands to keep them at bay. Some people say that the sea is a dangerous and uncharted water but it’s really not I’m connected to the vast body of water in some way.

June 9th 14000
we are 400 miles out form the sea’s heart. Possibly I’ll find the answers to how I have this power. I watch the bow as the storm rolls in I watch the waves breaking on the sides of the vast ship. The rocking waters shift the cargo side to side on the ship. The rocking was very fierce and strong. I was trying my best to keep the ship form breaking apart and just then we ran aground on a sand bar. I curse under my breath “oh fish buckets” I leap off the ship and sense a strong aura of life around this sand bar. The sea’s heart.

June 10th 1400
belle and Ally stay behind with the ship as I crawl into the dark and large cave. I look up and watch the dark blue stone hallways... wait blue stone that can’t be right. I pad into a clearing to spot a Bright blue almost translucent female floating in for the of my eyes. I watch and she says “welcome daughter” I pad closer curious if she was meaning me. She says “hello my daughter welcome to the heart of the sea. You are the protector of the ocean now” and she disperses.

        relationship with the sea:
As much as the sun beats down, making their skin crackle and blister, the dry air giving them an incomprehensibly sick feeling, in the same turn they can’t stand the sea. The tide that rolls in at the edges of the earth calls to them like a siren’s song, it’s only wish to drown them beneath the murky waves.

It had once been mentioned that they shared blood with merfolk. Not by their parents, but another in their town had informed them, told them that they could never leave the reach of the ocean lest they waste away. They ignored the warning. They had no care for these rumors, and dismissed them as nonsense from a foolish, jealous man.

Yet as they grew older, and began to travel on their own, the man’s words had more truth to them than Medi would have liked. As they reached a drier climate, an uncomfortable crawling set over their skin, and within the hour they were parched beyond belief, desperate for water to the point that they could think of nothing else. They drenched themselves in liquid from a canteen on the side of one of the caravans, and the people traveling with them stared on in horror and confusion as Medi gasped for air as though the wind had been knocked out of them.

They begrudgingly accepted their fate. Returning to the warm region that they were born in, they immediately felt at ease again. They returned to the sea, and as the waves lapped at their feet, they felt as if they were a part of it. They began to walk, deeper and deeper into the seafoam until their head was submerged beneath the water, but their lungs could only take in air, and so they were forced after a short time to withdraw from the sea again. As they slept, all they could hear was the sound of the waves crashing against the shore, and though it was miles away from them, it felt deafeningly loud in their ears. The more they grew close to the sea, the more it drove them mad, frustrated with the inability to return beneath the waves as their ancestors might once have done.

With time they began to despise the water. Filling a small potion’s bottle with a generous helping of the sea’s spray, they began to travel again, the relic keeping their health from waning. Still, they could only travel so far, and at times they would simply have to leave the traveling party and retrace their steps, the shift in the air too much for them.

Their connection to the sea slowly became the bane of their existence. They desperately longed to get away from it, from their village and the people that had failed to inform them of this horrid curse that would taunt them until their death. Yet as they tried, they only longed further to return, to become nothing more than a wave within the vastness of the sea.

    username: Lex.
    name: Mael
    gender: Female
    relationship with the sea:
Mael looked over the pier. This was her home. Surrounded by water. The water was her home. Being able to hear the crashing waves is as soothing as it gets. The ocean is home to her loved ones, or at least the ones that have long passed. She visits them often, hearing tales from the old days.

The one issue with that is Mael is afraid. She knows all about her past, but nothing of her future. So, she goes to her ancestors for advice. She readies her boat and goes out to sea.

While on the water, she sees the faint light of the spirits below her. She sets the anchor and plunges into its depths. Her ancestors greet her, one by one and circle around her. One flows forward, meeting Mael in the middle. “Dearest Mael. My daughter. There is someone who can settle your woes. Someone who can put your heart at ease. Find them, they can help you.” And like that, they vanished.

Mael took this as a sign. A sign to step up. She would find this person, no matter what it took. She sailed back to shore, and started packing bags. She needed to go to the mainland and search. She would follow the moon east in search of her missing piece.

On her way, she sees more spirits coming from the east. They all look at peace, so she must be going the right way. She continued on her journey, sailing the raging sea carefully. The moon rose, and Mael slept.

Many dreams occurred in her sleep. Vivid dreams of happiness, prosperity and this strange feeling of euphoria. She needed to find this thing. She wanted to be happy too.

When she wakes, the birds are flying in the opposite direction. She must be getting to land soon.

After another few hours, she reaches land. It’s a gorgeous beach, with a lovely sunset. At the other end, she sees someone. Could this be her missing piece?

Love.

That was what she had once felt for this place, this endless sea, her never-ending plight.

Devotion. Pride. A sense of protectiveness like a mother to her babe.

How had she ever felt such things for the land of her prison?

Love. She could only scoff at that now, how foolish had she once been? How foolish had she once been to think that this was a place to love? To be proud of? To call a home?
She had been placed here as a keeper, a guard chained to her very duty without a choice by the lilies she could never leave. It was a prison, a cage without bars but bars all the same, it was no home, it never had been, and she was the most foolish of fools to have ever fallen under the spell of it's beauty.

At the water's mercy, she had always been. If only she had seen it then.

The sea was vast, and large, and unending, and she was the one to protect and care for it all. She was swept where waterlilies wilted, sent to bring them back to life, as her presence had always done. When a creature of her lands was maimed or ill and filled with a sickness inflicted or caught or of magical intent, she was brought to heal them, to bring them back to life, to how they had been before darkness clutched at them and weakened their souls.

When she could first remember, she had delighted in each flower, each tendril, each seaweed and kelp that unfurled into life again after it had lost it's color and majesty. It had been so new, so wondrous, and she had felt such joy in possessing such a rare gift most could only dream of ever having. It was a gift many would die for, and her very being was filled with it. It had been so special once, but now it was nothing but a curse, another piece to her cage.

If the seas were in danger, she was pulled by rippling currents to face it, to send it away.

Someone had placed her here, to guard a world she had not created, had never asked to defend, and when she had once felt proud to have been chosen, she only felt trapped.

Her heart had lost it's wonder, and grown empty, dark, and alone. It had once gleamed like the water's surface, sparkling with all the magic it possessed, but now it was darkened like the deepest of depths, where no light could ever enter.

Love had faded to a longing for something else, for the sands over the horizon that had been there from the start, changing along with the sea.

Whenever she tried to swim towards it, to leave the lily pad the ocean chose for her ride, it's roots only followed and wrapped around her, tighter and tighter each time.

Foolish.

Alone.

Trapped.

Caged.

Wishing the glamor had never been lost.
