The Unknown

Void walked through the woods, his tail lashing from side to side, mirroring the irritation he felt. He did not know where he was, and he did not know why he was in this place. All he remembered was a dream he had had, not too long ago.
Some cats had appeared to him in the night, talking about some destiny he supposedly had, cats he had to find, adventures that lay before him. They had asked him if he had ever craved for something more, if he had ever yearned for a purpose. And of course, he had said yes, because his life as a kitty pet had been pleasant, yet boring. But that had not meant that he wanted to wake up in some stars-forsaken forest somewhere he had never been before and could not recognize any scents at all.
Still, he felt weirdly safe. He noticed that he could name the plants he was looking at, and the longer he spent wandering around the more he imagined he could discern between the scents surrounding him. Was that a mouse? He thought it might be.
The air was chilly, and he puffed up his fur a bit as he continued walking and thinking. Should he try to find his family again? Already he missed his humans and his sister, and he could feel hunger gnawing in his stomach. Though, how would he go about that? He had not a single clue as to where he was. He had gone to sleep cuddled next to Minka for warmth, and woken up shivering between some leaves, sheltered under a tall-grown fern. In between that, nothing. Only the hazy memory of that dream. And a name echoing in his head – Void. Again, and again. Why was that important? And why could he not remember his name anymore?
Everything else was clear to him. His favourite food. His favourite spot to lay in the sun. The route he followed every morning and every evening to make sure that no bordering kitty pets had invaded his territory, consisting of his and Minka’s house, their garden, and the streetways close to them. The smell of Minka’s fur. The excitement of being lifted up high by his favourite human.
But his name? Every time he tried to imagine his humans calling it there was that eerie voice. Void.
He knew that was not it, but he would just have to assume it as his new name.
So maybe he first had to focus on establishing himself here. It was no use trying to find the way home if he died in the process. Maybe there were cats here that he could ask about where they were exactly.
He huffed and started looking around more seriously. Where could he find a place to stay?
Coming to a halt, he tilted his head to listen for water.
There, in the distance. His tail lifting, he clambered towards the sound. Void only noticed how thirsty he was when he arrived, bowing his head to drink thirstily. Now, where to next?
He decided to follow the tiny flow of water downstream and see where it led him.
Not long after he came to a small clearing where he sat and rested his sore paw pads a bit. It was lined on the side where he had entered by thick brambles and ferns, only broken to let the stream pass through, providing him with a steady source of clean and fresh water. Granted, it was cold, and no match to the meat-flavoured water his humans had provided at home, but it was better than nothing.
On the other side it was hugged by a steep cliff. Stepping closer he discovered cave-entries hidden by tall grass and bushes that seemed to lead deeper into the stone. Even after sniffing carefully, he could not make out the scents of any predators. He could make himself a place to sleep here if he was lucky enough to forage enough materials. Maybe he could even store some of the herbs he found outside here so they could stay dry. Right now, it was dry and the sky was clear, but he had seen enough leaf-falls to know that the weather could change any minute.
He checked out the other caves, too. Some of them were even larger than the one he had just been in, but they felt too big for him alone.
Somewhere nearby, he heard something rumble and whipped around, the hair on his back raised, but quickly realized that the noise had been his stomach demanding to be filled. He had not even noticed how long it had been since he had woken up. The sun, by now, stood high in the sky, its rays touching the fallen leaves on the floor through the foliage.
Snarling, he carefully picked a way through the brambles, wincing occasionally at the sharp pain where thorns pricked him. If he intended to make a more permanent camp here, he would have to do something about this nuisance. Maybe he would find a way to clear himself a path without sacrificing the safety and protection of the brambles.
Now though, he had bigger problems to fix – namely his hunger. Standing still, he opened his mouth to catch any scents of prey nearby.

Ocean Clan
Tansypetal strutted confidently around her new, small patch of territory. She hopped over a few bushes and a hollow tree. A small animal seemed to scurry by but she ignored it. Briefly, she saw a shadow of a mole but dismissed it. The sun was searing on her hide and she smiled, the warm winds have disappeared but the sun always stays shining. She sighed and slowed her pace, wishing her brother was still running with her. She missed very much, every day, she'd find herself thinking about his wonderful personality and the kindness he lent her when he planned an escape with Tansypetal. She sat in an empty sunlit clearing and practiced leaping and pouncing on nearby leaves. She wondered what he would've told her if he was still here. He'd probably say, 'Keep going, I know you've come far and have been through some awful things but I know, I know for a fact, you're tough. Tougher than you'd want anyone to know. I've always been impressed with your humbleness and I trust you'll know no matter what, I'll be with you through thick and thin. Even if you think I'm not there. Love you, sis.' A small tear she was holding in slid down her face. I love you, brother. She slid a sheathed paw across her chest, motioning a promise sign. She sat and thought for a while, hoping for something to distract her from her sorrow. A dark thought crossed her mind, "What if I can't do it, brother?" She whispered. "Why did they have to take you? I wish I'd told you how much you meant to me... you meant everything. You were my everything." Tears dribbled down her fluffy cheeks. Her scars were still sore and new from her escape with her brother. Something gentle touched her paw pad and a small flower petal breezed onto her paw pad as she was crying, staring at the sky. She looked down and looked around. How did the flower get here? She stopped crying and nuzzled it. She knew who sent it and proceeded to put it by her ear. "Thank you for this brother, I will wear it with great pride and never forget your sacrifice."

LagoonClan
Smokestorm padded out of the den, greeted the she-cats, and went off into the forest. He'd firmly told them not to bounce in before he awoke. They promised not to disturb his beauty sleep, as Kestrelspeck had worded it. The tom swiftly padded about, drinking in the scents and getting down to business. He told the she-cats to go on either side of him for protection, but not too close to scare off prey. After Sagefluff had gone, Kestrelspeck had given Smokestorm a small lick on his cheek. He didn't expect this and had to sit for a little bit in order to regain his focus. The grey tom pondered what the depths of the forest would hold for him and his clanmates.

Mamoru kept his jaws parted in search of prey. Keeping upwind he scanned the area with precision. Suddenly a mouse came into his vision. The small creature was nibbling on a crumbe that looked to be getting smaller by the second, mamoru wouldnt have much time to plan his attack. The mouse began cleaning its whiskers when he was engulfed by darkness. Mamoru proudly birried his catch for later. Though he knew it wouldnt fill the prey pile completely. +1mouse, +11FP, +1XP

Tag and ripplesong wearily trecked throught the forest behined sunstar and Crowmask. The group was hunting after their great feast the night before. Now the prey pile was dwindling once again and needed refilling. After all there are queens with kits and elders to look after. Ripplesong was the first to catch prey, all that yawning must have helped the scent to fill his nose. Unfortunetly it was only some scraps, still better than nothing for now. +1FP, +1XP
While the others were looking out for prey sunstar found some herbs tucked away in the center of a hollow tree. It looks like somecat might have found it before them but if his clan was in need he couldnt not take it. +1stinging nettle, +1XP
Crowmask was about to pounce on a mouse when tag let out a big sneeze, causing the mouse to notice the cats and scurry on home. Crowmask whiped around with a growl as tag sneezed again. Tag must have become sick from the cool morning air will require 1 herb to cure it, they may be sent out again.

Void caught a whif of something...it smelled warm? Void managed to shuffle his way back through the brambles, catching in his black fur and occasionally pulling out clumps of fur. He grit his teeth so that a hiss of pain couldnt escape past his lips. Now the scent was becoming more familiar. It must be a vole. He followed it cautiously, keeping low to the ground. He swiped his tongue over his jaws as his mouth began to water at the thought of food, all thoughts of his family disapearing in that moment. Although he was a kitty pet he was still fairly good at hunting. Soon he managed to spot the brown vole which was sticking out like a rock in water against the green grass and fallen leaves. Void carefully planed his attack and was soon rewarded with the vole laying limply under his paws. +1vole, +2FP, +2XP
The vole smelled of something else too. Void sniffed at the lifeless body trying to distinguish what it could be. And hunting on the moores is just what they did. Pumpkinpelt breathed a sigh of relief as the wind rustled her pelt. The moore made her feel more at home and at ease. While the others trailed behined pumpkinpelt spotted a group of hares below them on the next hill. She flicked her tail to signal the others who were chatting about to one another but quickly were silenced. Pumpkinpelt signaled for dawnheart to flank as she would rush the hares. Meanwhile riftclaw would find some kind of cover in case any hares doubled back while pumpkinpelt rushed them.
They were all in position and began the hunt. Pumpkinpelt leaped and streaked right at the hares. They shrieked with fear as they ran. Pumpkinpelt soon disapeared over the rudge while pursuing. This is a reminder for all! Please read
It has come to the attention of us writers that there may be some confusion about how hunger works and i may have attributed to this confusion so i apologize. 10%hunger points are supposed to be given to each cat on the patrol. It may not be split up between cats to equal 10% for example is 2 cats are sent out their hunger should each gain 10% not 5% between the two cats.

𝓐𝓴𝓮𝓶𝓲

Akemi felt hunted. All this time she had been on the run, fleeing from her old life. Had it been days, or weeks? It had been warmer when she had been forced to leave, but now the leaves were turning yellow, slowly circling to the ground, rustling under her paws as she sought her path through the woods. The nights were getting colder, too. Soon she would need a place to stay.
Hopefully, she was far away from the Tribe that she would never see a face she knew here. They would probably kill her if they encountered her like this, thin and hungry and pathetic. Maybe they would laugh at her first.
She shook her head. All that was behind her, now. No one needed to know her secrets, and there was no need for her to remember them anymore.
Sniffing for prey, she followed the thin path she had stumbled upon, keeping both eyes open for a possible place to stay the night or even make her own camp to wait out the winter. It did not take a long time sniffing though for her to realize that she likely would not be successful here. There was not a single warm scent in the air, and the only birds she could hear chirping were either far away or too high up in the trees. She would have to continue her search elsewhere.

A short while later, Akemi encountered a small stream of water, vanishing and reappearing as it wound its way through the ferns. Briefly she stopped and lapped up a few drops, then decided to follow it to see if it led anywhere interesting. Building her camp next to a stream would be ideal, if she thought about it. Animals nearby would be forced to come to the water to survive, and even in leaf bare she would never be without food.
Ahead of her she could see the stream leading through a hedge of brambles and carefully picked her way through, hissing as thorns buried themselves in her flesh. She was rewarded, however, for pushing through; a clearing lay before her with the face of a cliff directly opposite, the other side encircled by more of the same brambles she had just forced through. She thought she could make out small openings in the cliffside, big enough for a cat to squeeze trough. Thank StarClan! Her ancestors had provided her with a safe space to stay. It did not look as if anyone else frequented this place, either, though she could make out the faint smell of another cat, a male. It seemed to be a few hours old.
Right as she thought about that, the scent seemed to get stronger and the bushes behind her rustled, a tom breaking through the brambles exactly where she had just a few heartbeats before. He had a vole, and some blackberry leaves in his mouth, both of which he dropped to hiss at her.
“Who are you and what are you doing here?”

𝓥𝓸𝓲𝓭

Void carefully picked up both the vole and the blackberry leaves to bring them back to his cave, purring silently as he walked. He had always been a pretty good hunter, regularly bringing birds and mice to his adoring humans, Still, it was something else to catch a completely wild animal and he felt he was rightfully proud of himself.
On the way back to his camp he noticed a strange smell that had not been there when he left to hunt. It seemed to be … another cat? He felt his hackles rise as he stepped closer to the brambles, confirming his suspicions. There were clumps of cat hair stuck to the branches, reddish-brown in colour. Those were not his. Suppressing a growl that attempted to rise in his throat, he made his way through the thicket as quietly as possible, taking care that the blackberry leaf was not ripped out of his mouth by stray thorns.
On the other side he was awaited by the owner of the hair; a brown she-cat with lighter spots on her chest and her right leg. She was smaller than he was, and thinner, but she could still be a threat.
Void dropped his prey and the herb to snarl at the stranger.
“Who are you and what are you doing here?” he hissed, stepping closer to her.
Her eyes widened and she stumbled back. Weak as she seemed to be, she probably would not be able to harm him, but he was not going to take any risks.
“Who are you to pretend this is your forest?” she barked back at him, the hair on her neck now rising, too.
“I was here first. The forest may not be mine, but this clearing certainly is,” he replied, his tail lashing wildly from side to side. “And I am willing to fight you to get you to leave.”
“Try to fight me, and I’ll show you the might of a tribe warrior. You with your shiny pelt, I bet you have never fought someone before!” the she-cat taunted him, and he growled in reply.
What exactly was a tribe warrior supposed to be? And how dare she say he had never fought before? He had fought with his sister plenty of times, often coming out on top. He had always held himself back with his teeth and claws, but for this brazen stranger he was willing to make an exception.
“Come and find out,” he snarled. “Thin as you are, I only need to blow on you to get out out of here.”
She took a step back, insecurity showing in her eyes, but still she spat at him. “Maybe that is just what I want you to think.”
Void could sense that she probably wanted to fight as little as she did and sat down amicably, though his tail still betrayed his tension.
“My name is Void, and I am alone. This clearing is big enough for the two of us, and there are a few empty caves in the cliff over there where you could sleep. We don’t have to fight.”
The stranger blinked at him. It looked like she had not anticipated this response. She remained standing but seemed to calm down a bit.
“My name is Akemi. Thank you for this offer… I guess? I cannot trust you yet.”
Void tilted his head. “No worries, I do not trust you either. Yet, I have only arrived here today, and I think we both might fare better if we were to work together instead of crippling each other and the both of us starving, would you not agree?”
Akemi huffed, accepting his words. “True. Which of the caves have you claimed for yourself?”
The tom stood back up again and went to fetch his prey and the herb.
“This one,” he explained, his voice muffled, as he walked over with her to the cliffside. He deposited his earnings in the small, rightmost cave, the entrance hidden by ferns and grasses.
“I’ll choose this one, then,” he heard the stranger’s voice from inside another cave, slightly larger, when he exited his den again.
Akemi joined him outside and awkwardly glanced at him from the side.
“So… what now?”
Void laid his head back and tried to find the sun through the trees. It was close to sunset.
“Let us try to find some nest materials to build places to sleep before it is completely dark,” he suggested. “Maybe we can find some prey or more herbs on our way.”
The other cat nodded. “That is a good idea. I tried finding food on my way here, but I was unsuccessful and now I am starving. You know your way around here better, lead the way.”
Flicking her tail toward the brambles she stood back to let him take the lead. Briefly, he thought about the vole that he had caught and pondered whether he should share it with her, but eventually decided against it. They were not friends, they did not even really know each other, and he had no reason to look out for her. If she had made it all the way here from wherever she had come from, she would certainly be able to catch something for herself today.
So, instead, he inclined his head and lead the way back though the brambles.
“I know where there might be some nice materials. I remember some moss over in that direction, and if we are lucky, we will even find some prey or herbs on our way there.”
