The wind whistled in Raleigh's ears. The map in her paws whipped about, threatening to blow off down the valley. She squinted.
Down the mountain, into the valley, across the fields, along the coast...
Simple enough. The map, ragged and torn, was still clear in it's layout of the area.
"This won't take me too long... I should be back by dinner, with all the ingredients Grandma asked for." The young kalon shuffled her bag about on her shoulder. The front button had caught. Raleigh muttered in frustration.
As she finally unstuck the button, a strong gust of wind blew through her cloak, ripping the map from her paws.
"No!"
It spun, fluttered, and danced as the wind carried it off. It disappeared out of sight.
"You're joking." Raleigh slumped to her knees. The path she had read on the map had already vanished from her mind, as if the wind had blown right through her head. In one ear and out the next.
Now what? Stumble blindly through the terrain in an attempt to find the fishing village? She supposed that following the coast should be easy enough...
Down the mountain. The was a start. The coast could only be down from here.
Pulling herself to a standing position, Raleigh tugged her back tigher over her shoulder and flipped her hood back. She could do this.

The sun had already started it's rush towards the horizon. The clouds were a cocktail of colours. And something was wrong.
Raleigh had made it to the coast. She'd been walking alongside it for a while now. The forest alongside the ocean had grown thicker and thicker.
It had also grown creepier and creepier. Eyes flashed from the trees, from under bushes. Leaves rustled in the wind, teasing the kalon as she jumped at every sound. She clutched her bag closer, and quickened her pace.
She would be there soon, surely. Before the sun set.
But then she would have to come back.
She shook her head. She'd cross that bridge when she got to it.
The bush beside her rustled.
She looked up. The path had become overgrown around an eroded part of the coastal cliff. The only option here was to veer off into the forest briefly.
The bush rustled again.
Raleigh gulped. She hesitantly took a step into the undergrowth, making an effort to avoid the suspicious bush.
A few steps in made it plainly obvious that this was going to be a hard trek. The forest was dark.
Eyes flashed nearby. More rustling.
"Hey." A gruff voice breathed in her ear.
Raleigh slapped a paw over her mouth to conceal her scream.
Eyes wide, she spun around.
A wolfish kalon was grinning at her. They held up a clawed paw. A rugged, dirty piece of paper hung from a single claw. "This yours, ma'am?"
It was the map! It looked worse for wear, but still legible.
"How'd you know it was mine?"
He just flashed a toothy grin.

what happened when they didn't follow the map? (497/500)
I was given three things when I was born.
The gift of Sight, a map imprinted on my body, and embers in my hands.
They took me as an omen. She will bring destruction, they cried. Her path is clear, printed on her body for all to see; she will follow the path she has been given, and bring chaos where she walks. Her breath will be smoke, her strides will spark wildfires. They feared me before I had even learnt to walk because they were afraid of where those footsteps would take me.
It was in doing this that they almost sealed my fate.
No one seemed to see the flaw in their plan. Keep her locked up, they decided. Keep her power contained. And so it was that a tiny stone attic became my home, my friends were the mice and the birds that sang outside of the barred window. No one would tell me why my hands could make fire or why they cringed away from my markings. They decided my future from the start. So sure, in their stubbornness and fear, that I was born to follow this map. And yes, had I kept being treated as the monster, I was sure to meet their expectations and become one.
They had not counted on me being a Seer.
I saw things too vivid to be dreams. Visions with eyes open or closed. Glimpses of future I didn't realize were predictions until they had come to pass. I told no one. Instead I clung to them, encouraged them, tried everything I could to explore and expand my own mind. I saw my own future once, and it terrified me. I saw flames, and fury; my unbridled rage at those who had wronged me, and the hatred I felt in knowing I had become exactly who they'd said.
And then I saw another path. Another map. A future in which I escaped, and fled to find people who could help me. Teach me. I wasn't a monster at all; I was a fire mage gifted with particularly strong abilities. I was a Seer who could use my visions for good. The markings on my body were not a path of destruction I was destined to lead. I was a trailblazer in the magic arts. I could use my markings to teach people about carving their own way in life, and how to make their own map.
That's when I realized my future was my own.
And I would not let someone else take it away from me.
So here I am, bars reduced to cinders, perched on the window and breathing in the cold night air. Determination burns like fire in my belly.
I will not follow the map they have given me. Their decisions will decide my fate no more.
I've seen a better future, lived it through visions, and I'm ready to live it now firsthand.
I'm ready to create my own path.

Felix is a delivery Kal with a very important job. They live in a apocalyptic compound surrounded by a field and then a vast forest- filled with bloodthirsty zombies ready to attack given the chance. Because of this
