Sindri always seemed to have a knack for relationships. Not necessarily for himself, but for others. Was it a feeling? A sense? Some natural intuition? He couldn't say for sure. He could look at others and just see what was destined for them. One of the most memorable moments was when he had a particular feeling about two lions that felt...different than usual. When two creatures are meant for another, the feeling is very particular. An unseen tether that draws them together. He can see them together in a lasting relationship. But this one moment was nothing like that. The feeling he got when looking at this pair was one of hurt and pain. How could that be? Until this point, he had only made matches that were made to last but this definitely would not.
At first, he ignored it. Perhaps his feeling was wrong. Life wouldn't be so cruel to set up a pair only to rip them apart. ...right? Even if it were some mistake, he didn't want to take a part in it. He wouldn't be the cause of others pain. It was easy. At first. The match was something in the back of his mind. But the longer he waited- the more time that had passed, the stronger the feeling became. It was quickly becoming too hard to bear. With heavy heart, he went through with it. A mention of one's name here. Talking up the other there. Slowly putting the idea in their heads they should attempt a relationship. And, wouldn't you know it, they were surprisingly happy together. No problems. No troubles. Perhaps the feeling of doubt was misplaced. Surely a pair this in love were meant to be together.
Assuming his hesitations were wrong, he moved on. The pair started growing distant, their relationship fraught and crumbling. They argued. They fought. Sindri was unaware of the shift as he was no longer in the area at the time of the falling out. He still hadn't gotten the strange feeling with another pair and his curiosity often had him wondering why it was so different. More time passed and by the time he had found himself back in the region it had been nearly a years time. He didn't think about it as often, but he still occasionally wondered about how the couple was doing. Of course they'd cross paths again. But Sindri was confused when he noticed they were with others. What had happened between them? Had his feeling been right? When he inquired about it, they were each a bit hesitant to explain. They didn't regret Sindri's actions. Perhaps hard to see why it happened, but the hurt the relationship caused them had opened them to what they really needed. It was hard to accept, but Sindri supposed it make a certain kind of sense. They may not have been meant for each other but, without that hard lesson, they never would have found who they were really meant for.

Habibti was one of two Matchmakers in the pride, a role that was something one didn't so much train for as they simply had a knack for. Surprisingly enough, they and the other Matchmaker, Kalila, had grown up together - leading others to often say their abilities must have come from something in their childhood. Whatever the case, the two lions were naturals, and had helped quite a few lions find their mate. There were mistakes, of course, but rarely. They wouldn't be good Matchmakers otherwise!

"That's the funny thing," Kalila would say, "they tell us our role is less difficult than being a Hunter or a Guard, but they can at least mess up!"

And Habibti would laugh and she would agree, but neither Matchmaker had failed at their job in quite a while, despite their youth.

"It's because we work together," Habibti would insist, "we can't go wrong if we both agree!"

Which, in a way, led to the conversation they were having now.

"Who do you think would be a good match for me?" Habibti and Kalila were lying together in the sand, the latter idly swishing her paw in the waters of the oasis. Habibti watched their friend curiously, waiting for what she may say.

"Hmm..." Kalila moved her head to look Habibti in the eye for a moment. "Not anyone in the pride right now, I don't think." She said at last.

Curious, Habibti's ears turned forward. "Oh?" Other lions may have been hurt to hear that, but they knew that sometimes, the right lion simply wasn't where you were. "Is there someone out of the pride, then?"

"I saw a dark brown lion with Hemakshi and Sangria when they come back from their travels - have you talked to him yet? He's very interesting."

"I'll have to catch him next time, then."

"Who do you think would be a good match for me, then?"

Habibti grinned. This had been her true reason of asking; to test her suspicions, or at the very least point her friend in the right direction. "Shahar." The antlered lion replied. "You're the only lion I've ever seen her put down her scrolls for, and the way you two talk about each other - I'm surprised you aren't mates already."

Kalila laughed, but Habibti knew their friend well enough to know they were right, and that Kalila was taking what they had said to heart. In the next month, Kalila and Shahar started a relationship, and though it was larlgely unspoken, those close to the two lionesses could tell in the way that sat alone to watch the sunset, to the way Kalila snuggled against Shahar when the was studying her alchemy scrolls, and in all the little ways the two simply seemed happier.

It wasn't until months later, when Habibti was staring down at Shahar's cold body and doing their best to soothe a sobbing Kalila between her own tears that the Matchmaker wondered if she should've let things be.

There were colors that swirled around every lion, a faint cloud that shimmered and changed with their moods. She learned from talking to older Jedi that they could see something too, splashes of color when someone felt a particularly strong emotion, but Amy could see the colors all the time.

She noticed, once, a special color that flashed and fluttered around Borealis and Nexus. It was a color Amy had never seen before, and it seemed to be made of lots of colors at once. Purple attraction, warm magenta love, gentle golden joy, tawny-yellow caring. It swirled around the two of them, and the two of them alone. Though some of the other colors--joy, love, care--showed up individually or together when Nexus interacted with one of her children, and similarly when Borealis interacted with his Padawan, there was never the complete mix that formed the wholly new color.

Amy watched for the color among others, and eventually came to the conclusion that the color only showed up around a perfect pairing. Two lions that were meant for each other, destined to be together by the Force itself.

She noticed the color around Ellis one day, when he was talking to Lutfi. It was the first time Amy had seen that color on him, seen it on anyone close to her age.

"You two are meant for each other," Amy told Ellis, excited on his behalf. "You should ask him out."

Ellis blinked at her in surprise, and then his Force-signature flooded with something like sheepishness. "I uh, well, we're dating already, actually," he said. "We haven't told anyone yet- how did you know?"

Amy huffed a laugh. "The Force."

Ellis blinked again and then he laughed too. "I guess I shouldn't have expected to be able to keep a secret from a pride of Jedi."

"Nope," Amy said with a grin. "And besides, the Force is a tattle-tale."

A few years later found Amy as the best lion in Ellis and Lutfi's wedding.

She hadn't immediately put it together when she saw the flower petals by his nest. After all, the condition was quite rare; it was by pure chance that she'd even heard about it herself.

But when she stumbled across Helios actually coughing the flowers up, well, his excuses couldn't stop her from recognizing the symptoms of Hanahaki Disease. Maybe she would have believed his excuse of eating flowers to entertain cubs (though she doubted it) if she hadn't seen the effects of Hanahaki Disease on her mother, or maybe she would've realized something was wrong anyways. Regardless, she did know, and she was determined to help.

The challenge became a bit more daunting when Aphrodite realized who Helios had fallen in love with: Hades, the no-nonsense Left Paw to Queen Hera herself. Still, the lioness was determined to aid her friend.

So they created convoluted plans to orchestrate Hades and Helios interacting. Aphrodite coached him on how to talk to her and tried to slyly get information about Hades' thoughts on the golden lion. Eventually, when it came time for one of the Mountain Pride's Full Moon Festivals, Helios invited his love to dance, and she, to everyone's surprise and delight, did.

And Aphrodite tried to smile when she watched them together, she really did. But after all that time spent with Helios, she had made the fatal mistake of learning all about how great he was to try and help impress Hades. Standing to the side and watching the couples dance, she felt a tickle in her throat. She coughed quietly for a moment before her eyes went wide.

She'd spit out a single petal.
