Sweet little thing had to be quickly rehomed after the parent's of a kid realized their other pets can quickly get to them, which put them in danger. Rats, like other small rodents, don't tend to live long but that doesn't mean they shouldn't be in a loving home!

This pet cannot be traded or gifted until 03/16/2021.

Happy 1 year anniversary to SFA! <3 To celebrate we've decided to post our first non-cat/non-dog companion you can adopt from here! They function a little different to other pets but still are sweet little things <3 Will always be pet, cannot be changed, and Home Setup is for their cage/contained area they live in.

(I used my three irl rats as NPC's because you can't keep rats alone <3)

Magpie yawned and streached her paws out, not caring when she disturbed her cage mates, they did it to her all the time. Realising her mouth was dry, the black and white rat rose to her feet and clambered over the like of warm, sleeping bodies. Toes hooking into the wired side, she made her way to the hanging basket and set about drinking.

"Hiya, Magpie," a now familliar voice called. The rat perked up and saw her new owner opening the cage door. She sat happily while they stroked her quickly on the head before getting back to whatever it was they did at their desk.

Deciding she didn't feel like going back to sleep just yet, Magpie climbed onto the edge of the basket and peered out. The desk was within reach, and she tentatively leaned out. Her new owner hadn't let her play on the desk yet, but that wasn't going to stop her. With a quick glance to make sure she wasn't being watched, Magpie hopped over into the desk and zipped to the back.

The surface was smooth and angled, but the pads on her feet worked well and she didn't slip. Keeping close to the wall she sniffed at the various objects scattered around. Smooth, hard objects, wooden sticks, and an odd squidgy rectangle. Magpie hadn't even realized how far she'd travelled until a hand was firmly around her body and lifting her up.

"Hey cheeky rat, what are you up to? I'm trying to do my art work so don't spill my ink," the human said, the majority of words not understood. A kiss was then placed on Magpie's head and she was placed back on the desk.

Taking this as permission, Magpie set about exploring again. Coming back across the squidgy rectangle after her owner placed it back down, Magpie attempted to sink her teeth into it, but her owner was quicker and moved it away. Seeing it as a game, Magpie raced back into the saftey of the cage and peered out, eyes playful.

She'd win this game by successful bringing something into the nest. Darting back out, she scanned the desk. Daring to go for the white, rubbery object again, she padded over the desk towards her owner's work. The object was moved, but Magpie's attention had changed. A wooden stick was laying discarded, and she set about gnawing on it quickly.

That too was taken away.

Determined, Magpie tried a different tactic. She hopped back into the cage and clambered up into the hammock. "Wake up guys," she called, pushing into the heap, "we get to play out!"

Two remained stubborn, but Storm perked her head up. After going about her morning business, the two made their way back onto the desk.

Magpie's plan was coming together. While her owner was concentrating on the newly awoken Storm, Magpie slowly padded to the back of the desk. There she found the small rectangle of yellow fabric that had caught her eye. Carefully, she scooped it up in her mouth and calmly walked back to the cage. She clambered in, crawling along the edge and into the blue bed box nest. The fresh paper had already been nibbled and torn to how they liked, but this soft thing would make a great addition!

However, she knew this next part was important. Looking back out at her owner playing with Storm, she pushed the fabric to the edge of the bed closest to them. This way, it wouldn't be spotted unless they leaned really close to the cage.

With a cheeky grin, she jumped back onto the desk before her owner could catch on, continuing to play until she felt tired enough to sleep.

Surprisingly, her own never noticed the fabric until later that day. She'd won that round!

Prompt - The eerie noise came from just behind the giant wooden door, but it was only giant from Ranger's view. Meanwhile, the giant floorboards creaked in pain as a disruptive giant rambunctiously went downstairs for a sip of water. Ranger calmed down and thought clearly as soon as he heard the giant's footsteps fall quieter down the stairs. Goofy little Ranger pried the cage door open to seek the giant. But he heard the footsteps rise again and paused. The giant door slid open, "here's my chance" thought Ranger. He bolted out of his cage and made a run for it. The giant had stepped inside the room and closed the door by the time Ranger made it. The light was still off, but he had to get away from the giant's feet. Then came the bright flash of light. Dramatically, Ranger covered their eyes like an actor in a scene where his love died. "Woe is me," he thought, but then he started running. He found himself under his cage while the giant darted after him. Scurrying from one place to another, the fast-paced-chase was chaos, but it was only the beginning. The ruckus awoke a second giant who came to the room to help. The third "helper" in the chase wasn't fully intending to help, the first giant, tired and worn out, bumped the dog crate, and the latch came undone. With a gasp and a whelp, Ranger clawed up to the top of the table that his cage was on. Now with two humans trying to catch two critters the room went dark. No one claimed responsibility for the heinous crime of turning out the light but Ranger saw his chance, his only chance of safety. Taking a literal leap of faith he aimed for the second giant's shoulder. The giant grabbed Ranger as quickly as possible and slid him back into his warm cozy cage. As for the pup, just calling his name brought them back to the giants. Whether or not Ranger learned his lesson will always be in question, but as for the giants, they know their lesson.

Prompt - Not knowing what had happened to her, she had all but hidden herself from her new human friends. Their hands gentle as they tried to pet her, and offering her food, hoping she would eat something before starving. She wouldn't eat in front of them, but they always said a word right before giving her the food. "Belle", a soft voice would say before giving her a block of food, or a new treat to try.

"Belle", they would say again, this time picking her up and placing her near their ears. Their hair always smelled of flowers that could surely only taste yummy. Her eyes darting from place to place, as she took in her surroundings. Darting from one of their ears to the other on a narrow patch of fabric. This was always her favorite time of the day, play time.

Prompt - Sakuran was found scurrying through a house when rescuers at SFA found him. They adopted him out to a lovely caring old lady named Beth. Beth has taught Sakuran well, caring for him as if Sakuran was a dog or cat. Sakuran was tought to never bite people and to be able to run back to Beth or get help if something happened. Thankfully it has been a couple months since Sakuran was adopted and nothing bad has happened. Beth and Sakuran are enjoying their happy life together in Beth's cottage. Where they live peacfully and happily secluded from people. He has also caused his fair share of mistcheif, wrecking furniture and tipping small items over.
