Named after the poem "The moors of Argyll" by Alfred de Breanski Sr and after a sept (division of a family) of the Clan Campbell who lived in Argyll, Scotland. Fun fact: The commonly known pattern of argyle derives from the tartan of Clan Campbell.
Conochie paced excitedly back and forth in the large dog kennel she was in. She could tell today was different, the routine of the shelter staff was different, she could smell their excitement and their sadness. Mixed emotions about her leaving. It was just coming up to midday when the door to the kennels opened and a staff member walked in, alongside her was a young woman with shockingly bright ginger curly hair.
"She's just over here Miss Kasabian, i'll get her out for you" the staff member said as he opened up the kennel door and attempted to clip the leash onto the excited dog's collar. Conochie was not cooperating though, she was jumping against the metal barrier trying to get at Cosette.
"She's an excitable one isnt she" Cosette chuckled and watched the staff member struggle with Conochie. He was finally able to get the clip on underneath all that fluff and walked Conochie out the kennel before handing her off to Cosette. "I definitely agree with you there miss" he laughed nervously and led the two back out to the front desk.
Conochie was wagging her tail so much that her whole back side was wagging too, she bounced beside Cosette, jumping up and licking her hands. "Alright girl, i know, i know, i love you too" Cosette cooed trying to calm the dog down a little.
After all the information was double checked and sorted Cosette smiled and thanked the staff member before proudly walking her new dog out to the car. The two shared a moment of joy and hugging before making their way back home.
There was more excitement to come however, as Cosette pulled up in the driveway Conochie could hear another dog barking inside the house. She barked in response and the other dog went quiet for a moment before barking louder and more frequently.
Cosette took a deep breath as she led Conochie inside, from the smell alone Conochie could tell that the other dog was a young male. She surveyed her surroundings, silently appreciating the coziness of the house. Cosette gave some slack on the leash and pushed open a door that led into the lounge. The barking only increased as they entered, inside a travel cage in the center of the room was the male dog. He was stunning to look at, a beautiful masked blue and cream sable with some white markings. Cosette let Conochie sniff around the cage and let the two get to know each others scents for a little bit.
Coxaise ceased barking and started wagging his tail and sticking his nose through the bars of the cage. "Coxaise, this is your new friend, Conochie. You best not be too boisterous around her, im pretty sure she's able to stand up for herself and be just as boisterous back" Cosette teased.
After a few minutes of sniffing, Cosette opened the travel cage and let Coxaise out. The two dogs were both the same height but Conochie had weight on her side (and a lot of fluff). The two played with each other for a while before Coxaise ran to the back door and barked. "Fine, lets go play outside" Cosette smiled, she was glad they were getting along so far, she unclipped the leash from Conochie's collar and opened up the back door. Conochie wagged her tail so fast it was a blur before bounding out into the back garden to chase Coxaise around.
The three of them had a lot of fun together and when the day was over, both of the dogs fell asleep on either side of Cosette, cuddled up underneath the warm duvet.
Conochie knew then that she had found her forever home.
