Route One of the Hawthorn Hooves Stable Event
Just as the trees seem like they can get no thicker and the woods themselves seem to be as black as night around you, when the hours have passed and things look dim, the group comes across a clearing. Inside, watching the group of rescuers emerge from the woods, are several horses.

The search and rescue group is absolutely thrilled, but then the questions arise - what happens to them now?

This is a Route One horse! Remember you must first enter in the Route One prompt before you enter for any horses listed as route one. You may only win two horses per route, excluding the horses listed as "Special," of which you may only win one total.

Competition: This horse lost someone dear to him when he had to leave Hawthorn Hooves Stable; describe/draw how he copes when he gets to your stable. There is a minimum word count of 100 words and a minimum art qualification of a lined piece!

His brother.
They had struggled to get Discovery out of the pen, sticking close to Journey's side. They'd kick and buck at anyone that got near, but they still managed to get them separated. Discovery tugged on his rope, looking back at his brother. "JOURNEY!" He cried, trying to pull himself free, but it was no use. Journey opened his mouth to speak but all that came out was a whimper.

He was gone... His only other family member was gone. Mom left when they were just 4 months, Dad was sold when they were 5, and now Discovery was gone. Journey crumpled to the ground, laying on his side. After a few minutes, they got Journey into his trailer also with some others. He placed his head on the cold metal wall.

He was all alone...

Dash stood at the edge of the clearing, he was just too tired and depressed to move another step. He was still in shock from finding out his owner since he first came off the track at a young age was goan. They had not been a young human but they had always seemed fit and healthy to Dash. And just to make matters worse he had found out on the same day that the stable he had been for years was closing too. Dash heard the sound of approaching horses and riders and did not even flick a ear in their direction. He just could not muster up the energy.

Then the scent of a familiar horse hit his nostrils, Dash’s head shot up and he looked around wildly for the horse to go with the scent. Then he spotted Din with a small redhead human on his back. Dash trotted over to great him, the human seemed a bit surprised that Dash had come over and seemed to know Din. She slipped Din’s extra green halter on Dash as the two old friends greeted each other. The human then tied them both up to a tree while she went to help a few other humans with some more horses.

As they stood there Din and Dash shared what had last happened to them since Din was at Hawthorn. What most humans would not know is that Din and Dash had been born at the same barn and then throughout their life had been at the same barns off and on. They were like brothers and as Din heard about Dash losing his owner and all that had happened. He did his best to comfort his long time friend, even going so far as to groom what he could reach of Dash‘s neck.

As the red headed human came back she saw Din grooming the other tired and agitated stallion. And that he seemed to be leaning into the grooming and relaxing. She made her mind up right then and there that he would be coming home with her and Din. One of the harried organizers came by with a clipboard and to try and identify the stallion. Once he had identified him he gave him a pat on the shoulder saying what a poor old guy he was. This peeked the redheads interest and that is when she was told about his owner passing away and how they were worried since he was so old and depressed that no one would want to adopt him. She let him know right then and there that he was coming home with her and Din.

A few weeks later the redhead stood at the fence to a snow filled paddock where Din and Dash were firsking around acting like a pair of colts. She was super glad that they had brought Dash home. Not only was he great with the western lesson kids. He seemed to really have come out of depression and both Din and Dash had gotten a new lease on life. They were inseparable, but somehow managed not to be buddy sour.

xxxxhelio still couldn't stop thinking about that final day at hawthorn hooves. that place had been his home since he was a yearling. he had been moved there with his twin sister, arizona, when they were little. they had to leave their mother and father behind and only had each other to rely on. they grew up never leaving the other's side; they were inseparable. years passed, and although they had matured quite a bit and had other friends at the barn, they still went to the other whenever they were upset or needed advice. ari was helio's closest friend. the day the majority of the horses were to be moved to land of euphoria for rehoming, ari was one of the few who had to stay behind. it broke everyone's heart listening to the twins' cries for each other, but it had to be done. ari was being sold to a considerably wealthy client for a decent sum of money which the owner of the stable would be using to care for the two horses he was able to keep. helio kept crying out for his sister even after they got to land of euphoria. he eventually quieted down after hours of no response and a very sore throat, but would lift his head at any sound remotely similar to her voice. the stallion was cheerless as he stood in his stall for days on end, knowing ari was out there somewhere but he would probably never see her again. resignation finally took over. helio would soon be moved to another stable which would hopefully be his forever home.

xxxxthings would soon start looking up at his new home. in the pasture one day, helio met a little chestnut mare by the name of calista. he and cal soon became best friends with quite the sibling-like relationship. her sassiness and spunk reminded him of his sister, so he stayed close to her whenever he could. he would confide in her whenever he missed ari or was feeling sad, and she helped him get used to life in this new place. although he missed his sister dearly, calista was always there for him when he needed her. helio was assigned the stall right next to hers and would always be put out into the pasture with her. slowly but surely, it began to seem like things would be okay once more, even if ari wasn't there with him.
