Aisling is a fairy - a tiny creature with wings and magical powers. However, she's never felt like she fits in with the other fairies. They're all very delicate and beautiful as well as talented. On the other hand, she sees herself as clumsy, rough, and large compared to the others. Her wings are much different from the other fairies. They have translucent wings that allow the light to filter through them. Aisling's wings are feathery and catch the wind easily. Due to feeling like an outcast, she's started to hate her wings.

She flew away as fast as she could, tears burning in her eyes.

Today, the other little fairies went further with their taunting and teasing. They made weird clucking noises and plucked out some of her feathers. Her skin still stung, and some angry red bumps were beginning to raise up. Aisling frowned at the fresh memory and shook her head.

All she ever wanted was to make some friends. Why did they have to be so cruel to her? Just because she was feathered instead of having translucent wings? Just because she was bigger and clumsier than all of the dainty, beautiful fairies? The thought came into her head that she might not even be a fairy. But then what would she be? There was no one else in the world like her - at least, she had never met anyone like her. Perhaps one day she would find someone.

Aisling hurried away from the meadow, flapping her weak wings as fast as she could. She finally came to a large forest, her eyes growing wide at the sight. The leaves were as big as her, and she settled down on a branch. Catching her breath, she rested on her side and closed her eyes. Wincing at the pain, Aisling sucked in a sharp inhale and groaned loudly.

That groan seemed to catch someone's attention. A chirping sound caused her eyes to flash open and meet the sight of a bright red feathered creature. It had beady black eyes and a pale orange beak that opened every time it made the noise. It was a pretty, high-pitched song. Aisling smiled at the creature and stood up, realizing that she was just as tall as it too. "What are you?" she asked aloud.

A bird, he told her, chirping again. The red bird spread his wings, showing off all of his feathers. Aisling took in a deep breath, but this time it was out of fascination and wonder. She realized that she looked so similar to this... bird. Was that what she was?

"I'm a bird too," Aisling amended and spread her wings as well. They wobbled slightly, but she felt stronger now.
