. .The euphoria of finding the first group of horses wore off quickly, as the sun beginning to dip beneath the horizon urged the group to disband for the night. Even as everyone was loading up, the day’s bitter cold turned into biting, sharp temperatures that threatened health. But, despite the satisfaction of having the first group of horses rounded up, the worry that there were others still out there in that forest, freezing and terrified, kept you awake far longer than you intended to be.
. .You were up before the dawn, but you weren’t the only one, and, as the sun rose its sleepy head into the sky, the Search and Rescue group were ready to head out again. It would have been tough had you not been - the leader of today’s mission wouldn’t have let you dawdle any length of time, anyway. Knowledge of the area proved invaluable, and, after what felt like no length, the group passed through the clearing where the first group of horses were found. You can’t help but feel a nip of hope at the back of your mind - perhaps the other found their way to the clearing? But as you all pass through, continuing now on a yet unexplored path, you find a fear setting in. Where could the horses be?
. .It wasn’t long before a strange, new sound caught your attention, and, soon enough, the group stumbled across - or, more accurately, into - a small creek, and, even more exciting, the tell-tale hoofprints in the thick mud.
Following the creek led you all to a small oasis, and, relaxing in the cool midday sun, some dozing, some sipping from the water, others just sitting, the second group of horses.
