VOK Halloween Event #1

Postby snapshot » Thu Oct 22, 2020 12:16 pm

To adopt this lion, you must either:
1. Have a founder, be at least level 1, and have enough space to accommodate this lion
2. Or, you can adopt this one as your founder!

Whether it be pumpkins, pumpkin spice, jack-o-lanterns, or other pumpkin-y things, pumpkins are a classic symbol of autumn and of spooky season. Or are they?

What is your pride’s classic symbol of this time of year?

250 words or 1 art piece max. Ends 10/30 23:59 pm CS time.

Extended to November 2nd, 23:59 pm CS time.

Lion name: Lakota (A variety of Pumpkin)
Lion gender: Female
Pride: The Centre (Mystic Isle Subpride)
Pride status: Inom -Gardener
Prompt: If Spring is about repair and new growth then Autumn for Mystic Isle is all about preparation. Preparation that things may go wrong, and that it may be harder to survive for a while. It is a time of dying and the cold creeping in, a time where leaders become bossy and the elders get cranky. Prey hiding and foraging becoming more difficult.
And so lists get written, scrawled on walls, of what everyone must do to help. Some get sent to gather wood for fires, some the last few things that can be preserved. For a while everyone is working long hours, preparing. It doesn't help that their neighboring pride invades most around this time. Tensions are high but lists aren't the only things created with chalk.

Drawings are created. Warnings of the dangers of winters but also amusing skeletons and clumsy ghosts. And so somehow chalk became the symbol for Mystic Isle's fall. It was for organization, but also drawn on fur in celebration, drawing signs and skeletons on top of fur, war streaks to scare those who seeked to ruin Mystic Isle's sanctuary.

It was even more fitting when you considered what chalk was composed of. The compressed shells and chemicals from dead sea creatures. The mark of preparation written in the bones of the sea. (219/250)

Prompt:
As the Fair Equinox approached, the Pride of Blessings oversaw the transition of the palace decoration to honor the changing of seasons. The hangings embroidered with the hare for Plenty were taken down from every hall in which they hung, replaced with the golden leaf that honored the amber gown adorning the hills. The tables in the Dining Hall were clothed in Fair finery, the bedsheets in the guest chambers laid out with reds, oranges, and golds. Even the crown upon the queen's head was exchanged From the jeweled richness of Plenty to the laurel wreath of Fair.

However, on Nadir there was no seasonal change. Some Nadiri would ooh and ahh as the green and blue planet below them turned the colors of a hearth-fire in this time of year.

The classic symbol of fall for the lions of Spirit's Dawning is the fallen leaf. Now, of course, this first has a surface meaning. During fall, leaves turn brilliant shades of red, yellow, and orange before falling down dead to the ground. However, there's also a deeper meaning. A fallen leaf is a symbol of the end of easy hunting, the end of summer when prey is out and about to escape the heat. It's loss of it's normal green color and it's withering from it's branch signal the coming of winter, when times will be harsh, food hard won, and lions more easily lost to illness and age. It brings an end to the time of plenty and ushers in the cold famine that hungers for the souls of lions.

Pride: The Pantheon part of Eden subpride
Pride status:Gardener
Prompt:
In Eden there are many flowers and other plants that are often associated with fall and second only to the orange trees are the Monksilver Black flowers. Their famous symbolism comes from a now dead explorer who brought seeds of them wherever they went and would give the, as gifts to prides. Although these flowers can be found wherever the seeds were given and tended to Eden is where the flower originated from so these blossoms hold particular prestige. It is tradition for many neighboring prides (and some that even far away) to travel to Eden to get the Monksilver Black flowers as soon as the first leaves start to fall since not only do they mix well with the colors of autumn but they also smell of cloves, a very fitting fragrance. From there these flowers are often traded to prides even farther away making the reach of these flowers very wide and a sort of unifier for all the prides. Throughout the autumn season you can travel to different regions that have their own symbolism but besides any differences/alterations to traditions almost each pride will have at least one bush of Monksilver.

Prompt: 206/250
This time of the year is a flurry of events for the pekee pamoja pride. October is the first month of the final season of the year. The coming of age ceremony takes place during the first week of October. There's a Halloween feast where the pride joins together to enjoy the holiday and share spooky tales and ghost stories. The middle of the season celebrates a feast of thanks and of family. The final month is the coldest and is when couples come together to form permanent partnerships. There are two feasts, one for the winter holiday and the second to celebrate the end of the year which carries over into the celebration to bring in the new year.
Anyway, for this particular month of the season, it's all about change and growth. For the pride, anyway. Cubs are getting older and leaving their homes to make lives of their own. It's the final season which may bring the end of the year, but is also the start of a new year. While there may not be a physical symbol of the times, the best option would probably be a tree with it leaves in the process of changing creating a warm rainbow of color.

Pride: Fire Empire - mystic swamp subpride
Pride status: Hunter
Prompt:

The empire has many traditions scattered across its territory, but one common symbol beings everyone together come autumn. There is an ancient arch in the empire. It moves around, but it can always be found within the prides territory. It is old and made from carved stone, but it looks almost like new. The only tale of its age is the dreadful sense of forever one gets when approaching it. The stone itself does not weather or even scratch. It is indestructible. Its keystone has a swirl pattern carved into it. There are occasionally rune like markings on the other stones, but the markings often move around each time it is used, as if it were jotting down the pleads of those it destroyed.

The arch can give great power, but in return it destorys a world. It brings chaos to other realities, all in the name of bringing peace to another. One year, on the 3rd of October, the pride tried to destroy the arch. No matter what they tried, the arch couldn't be destoryed. The arch still stands, and it had become the prides symbol for autumn.

Each year the pride attempt to destroy it, and starting on October 3rd and ending on the first day of winter the arch is available for anyone and everyone to attempt to attack, break, blow it up, anything they can think of. As a result the arch accidentally became the empires universally recognised as the empires symbol for autumn.

Pride: The Cosmos
Pride status: Jedi Knight
Prompt:

The Cosmos is a pride of many people from many different cultures. To honor this, autumn is considered the season of togetherness, and they have a Festival of Cultures to celebrate the roots of every pridemember. Boards are erected all around camp, where everyone is welcome to paint murals of their homeworlds. Within days, the territory becomes a map of the galaxy. It is for this reason that a simple circle is considered to be an image of fall. A circle represents the togetherness of the pride, but it also represents the shape of a planet. Cubs are given scraps of wood with circles pre-drawn to color in. The tinkerers make spheres out of the scrap metal that has accumulated over the course of the year, and their sculptures add another layer of art to the land.

A circle. Such a simple symbol, but in it is the history of a thousand peoples.
