This collie is a bit of a night owl! What do they do at night while everyone else is sleeping?

Night Owl:
He does his best to make as little noise as possible as he leaves the house, carefully crawling beneath the barbed fence outlining the property. It's a nightly tradition of his, weaving his way through the dried cornstalks, all the while taking note of the small pattering of footsteps behind him. It's a game for the two- racing to see who can cross the field blindly as fast as they can; usually Asra's friend wins- after all, he is much more acclimated to living outdoors.

They race to the farm, attempting to not spook the cattle. Usually the bovines pay no mind, sleepily chewing their cud as Asra and his orange friend slip by. Hanging a left out of the barn door leads them to the hay bale piles, where they then race to the top. That's where the adventure ends for the night until Asra must make his way home- but he relishes in the height; overlooking the fields as the deer graze comfortably under the full moon. He and his friend stay there until the sun begins to rise, and give one last look at each other; a silent promise to return when the sun sets once more.

Going out the microchip-dog flap imbedded in their backdoor, Hypnos sneaks outside and onto the trampoline. It's there that he spends the hours of the night watching the stars. Although he doesn't know why, he is incredibly fascinated by the bright speckles of light scattered across the darkened thermosphere. Hypnos will spend hours just watching the skies above move as the earth does it's daily rotation, slowly moving the constelations and lightening the sky until they disappear.

One by one, she carries them into the living room and uses them to fix herself a bed in front of the TV. Then she cuddles up on her stolen softness and paws the remote to see what's on. Her owner has given up trying to stop her, instead choosing to invest in decoy towels for her while hiding his own in the bedroom.

Night Owl: Luna spent most of her life around wolf-hybrid dogs, making her a well known howler. Late at night, when most of the other handlers and animals are asleep, her trainer, Jack, will let her out to play, train a little more or just stroll through the ranch, however Polar North is located in wolf territory, and thanks to her impeccable hearing, Luna often picks up on the faint howls of roaming packs and joins right in. The first few times she did this, it startled the ranch owner Sam awake- thinking that a wolf had gotten past the perimeter fence and onto the property, however when they discovered it was just Luna, they learned to distinguish her howls from that of a wolf. When she's indoors, Luna loves to lay across Jack's lap or curl up next to him on the bed or sofa and watch TV until the sun comes up and she drifts off to sleep. She is almost nocturnal and it is rare to see her awake during the day. She also likes to visit the horses in the stables, mostly Star and Crimson, who stay up late much like herself. (194 words)

Olber always spends his night looking for one thing: trouble. Tonight he finds it when he checks out the laundry room. A lovely prize but it's defended by a three-headed beast. The white head of the hydra lifts from slumber to regard him with narrowed eyes. A warning rumble brings the other two heads, brown and grey, up to watch him and he pauses his approach.

However, not one to ignore a challenge Olber bounds forward to grab the thick sock in front of the dryer. The dogpile is offset when the diminutive Zaragoza springs from her hiding place among the other dogs to grab the opposite end. The fierce little female snarls at him but he shakes her off and goes tearing out of the room.

The chase lasts until Olber leaps up onto the couch and dangles the sock just out of her reach. He bounces from one side to the other and bows so she can almost get it before flinging himself back and teasing once more. The game is fun until she starts to bark at him angrily, loudly. He gets off the furniture to have a fair game of tug-o-war before she wakes the humans.

Orpheus spends his days living up to his strong personality front but by night the softer side of this giant guy slowly comes to light. Orpheus is the best friend and only constant companion of a lonely elderly man and together they spend their nights sitting out under the stars watching and waiting for the showers of shooting stars that dance throughout the night. It is this dogs favourite thing to curl up beside his human on the torn and tattered lounge chair beside a slowly burning fire and just absorbing the gentle light and calmness of the night sky away from the lights of modern day life.
