...I hold with those who favor fireUsername: MalignantSpirit
Lambicorn name: Rhinebeck
Gender: Female
Prompt 1:
Rhinebeck has always been amazed and grateful for her connection to fire, but also cautious. During her youth, she experimented with her abilities, learning how far she could push herself, and how much control she could maintain over the swirling, dancing flames. From a young age she was awed by the beauty of wild fire, and how the flames seemed to understand her will, and yield to her command.
However, she also understood the danger an untamed flame could yield, and the damage it could cause an unweary soul.
Rhinebeck stood alone at the edge of the field. She closed her eyes briefly, and focused her thoughts. As she opened them, she sensed the flames around her beginning to flare. She smiled softly to herself, proud of what she had accomplished. She began to channel her emotions into the fire, and it began to dance in spirals and bursts around her. As her emotions grew, the blaze also grew...and unbeknownst to her, a dancing flame touched a leaf, and before she could stop it, a whole branch was ablaze. Horrified, she spun and drew the fire away from the tree and back to herself. But it was too late, the damage had been done, and she couldn’t take back the burns on the tree. That night, she ran away from home, consumed with shame. She roamed the world for months, trying to learn how to control her abilities, until one day she had a random encounter with someone who changed her life.
Rhinebeck lay curled beneath a tree, gazing at the stars. Suddenly she heard a faint giggle. Her head whipped up, and she surveyed her surroundings. At first she didn’t see anything, but then, out of the corner of her eye, she saw a flickering light beyond the trees. She got up, and slowly crept closer. Small bright shapes were flitting between the trees, and upon approaching, she realized they looked similar to her, and produced just as much heat, but they were slightly smaller, and had a blue light. Suddenly she realized what they were- star spirits! She had thought they were a myth, although it was said that fire elementals, like herself, were descended from them. As she watched, she saw a star spirit brush against a tree. She gasped in horror, afraid the tree would burn, but instead, the burning light just swept harmlessly past. Rhinebeck stared, mesmerized, and rushed into the clearing to beg the spirits to teach her.Rhinebeck learned from the spirits how to control her fire, but also how to trust her instincts, and believe in her abilities.
She still thinks about the burnt tree sometimes, but that is the past. And she is moving forward.
(Just a tiny bit over 400, but hopefully it’s okay 😬)
