since you didnt specify what kinds of tails I drew several and will be giving general instructions for different kinds of tails.
reptilian tails are like long cones, they cant bend too much because they're thick and heavy and when they bend there are almost always folds in the skin. there is also usually scales or plates of some kind, try not to detail these too much, just add a few in the lineart and maybe some more in shading to tone it out a bit.
horse tails are like hair.
lions, donkeys and many big savannah animals have a paintbrush shape as a tail, in movement it is similare to a reptilian tail but smaller and the tuft of fur at the tip should be a bit of a teardrop shape.
I talked a little bit about dog tails here.
cat tails and raccoon/tanuki tails are big tubes with some fur detail at the rounded end and near the butt, with raccoon and tanuki tails I like to indicate the stripes in my lineart with the little fur detail lines.
and tails from sonic the hedgehog doesnt get a description, he's just here.
