Prompt:
Caligo's greatest and most indulged in vice is hunting. Even though males are forbidden to hunt, they're supposed to be guarding and patrolling instead, he will often stalk after prey and eat it while on patrol, making sure to hide the leftover carcass so no other lions notice and think there's a rogue on the territory. He taught himself to hunt out of boredom on his early patrols. At first it was just occasionally when he spotted a prey wandering by. Then he began to actually catch the animals. He couldn't let the body sit out to rot, that would be degrading to the spirit of the animal. To resolve this issue, he ate it. And the next patrol he ate another. And another. Suddenly he was getting very hungry on patrols and began to seek out prey to hunt and eat to satisfy it, after all he couldn't ask for more back at home, they'd ask why he'd suddenly gotten such a large appetite. He became addicted to the thrill of the hunt. The wind rushing through his fur during a chase, the quietly stalking through tall grasses to not spook a prey, the tasty meat at the end, he couldn't get enough. He'd sign up for extra patrols when they were needed but instead of patrolling, he would hunt. He made cursory checks, of course, he wasn't going to to leave it completely un-patrolled, but nothing really happens here so why bother being thorough when you can have fun instead? The extra food did not make him gain weight at first, instead going to build the muscles he was training during his hunts. It was only after a long time of this did he notice that his fur hang off somewhat with flab, and others began to notice as well. So he began alternating his hunts with exercises he came up with to get rid of some of the extra fat. But he never, ever, stopped the hunts. And in the back of his mind, part of him waits in dread for the day he gets caught. [349]
