Lion name: Scintillam
Lion Gender: Female
Link to pride: Pride of Intertwining Roots
Pride Status: Hunter
Prompt:
Scintillam seethed, watching the others in the pride with thinly veiled disgust. How could they just accept the rule of some lion just because he said so? He'd never had to fight for the leadership. Just because he'd fed the ones who hungered and sheltered the weak and sick, they all looked up to him. He was practically the Weaver for how they worshiped him. Her disgust must have started to show on her face because the others were shooting her hurt and confused looks. She turned her face away to regain her mask. Ignis was weak, he pandered to those even weaker than him to gain their affection. Had any of them ever asked why he left his birth pride? Scintillam didn't need to. It was written on his face, on the defeated slope of his shoulders as if he'd borne a great weight and found it too heavy. He'd challenged his birth Pride's King and lost. She'd been young when she joined Ignis, struggling to fend for herself after the destruction of her pride. Now she was strong. Soon, very soon, she would challenge Ignis for the right to be the Heir. She would not lose.

Lion name: Fenice
Lion Gender: Female
Link to pride: Red Eagle
Pride Status: Knight-
Prompt:
The first time a rift appeared, Fenice was right there, staring into it. The shards shifting in a kaleidoscopic way, light flitting through the shattered pieces of reality.

"Stay back, we have no idea what this is!" Sabira shouted out, appearing from behind the small crowd of lions to take her place in front of the group, as founder. She stood next to Fenice, who had yet to take her eyes off of the floating rift. "When did this appear?"

"I was patrolling the border when the hunting patrol were arriving; then this suddenly appeared," she explained, enraptured in the shimmering shift of whatever was before them. Then, as quickly as it had manifested, it vanished - breaking Fenice's focus.

Sabira turned to talk lowly to Fenice, "Keep your eyes open - if whatever that was shows up again, I want to know about it. Don't try anything." And at that, she led the pride to disperse, back to their home.

It had happened again a couple more times after that. Never really in the same location, and Fenice was certain she had missed a few appearances since she couldn't be everywhere at once. Each time, the rift materialised; shimmering, flowing for a while as she watched, before eventually vanishing. There was seemingly no pattern for their locations, appearances, or how long they stayed.

She had reported this to the founder, as requested, but was displeased with what she was told.
"I don't want you going near them until we know what they are, they could be dangerous."

"How will we find out what they are and why they're here if we don't do anything about it? Maybe we should touch it or go into it, we need to know what they are." Fenice argued. She didn't think it was any more safe to do nothing than it would be to see what on earth these anomalies were.

Sabira shook her head. "I cannot afford that risk yet. It is best to leave it alone for now." It was an order, not a suggestion - Fenice could tell through the tone of voice.

A scream echoed through the ravine suddenly, Fenice and Sabira rushed out of the den together. Below them, another anomaly. The pride stood by the walls of the ravine, keeping away from it. They swiftly climbed down to the lower level, but Fenice padded up close to the rift.

"If we don't take a risk," she addressed Sabira, "this will keep happening." She then turned, addressing the entire pride, watching with worry etched into their expressions. "We have no idea what this is, if it's dangerous or not. And we won't know if we don't try anything with it."

This felt, somewhere in the deepest parts of her heart, like a turning point for the Red Eagle pride. It was a spark for something new; she just had to initiate it.

"Well, If you won’t go through then I will” she promised, and stepped into the portal.

Lion name: Nina
Lion gender: Female
Pride: The Ushirikiano Pride
Pride status: Hunter
Prompt:

Nina's very passionate about anything and everything that happens to interest her. The thing that she gets the most fired up about is learning. She loves learning new things, and spends a lot of her time in the Cartlann Cave Library, reading any book she can get her claws on. She tries to get the cubs involved whenever she can, trying to find books that they like. But they always bore so quickly. She doesn't understand them. How can someone not enjoy reading and learning new things by the soft glow of the fire in the library?

Her wish is to start a school system. To properly educate the cubs of the pride. She wants it to be close to the Ancient Ruins, in order to better study them and the world around them. Nina's been pushing for it for ages, but according to Shimo, 'No one would want to work there, Nina. Now please, I have more important things to do than argue with you about this again.'

Nina could not believe how stupid he was. Clearly she'd want to work there, you know, since she's brought it up so many times. She could probably convince Kallias or Fluji to help out too. Helios or Kosa could have a class for the Mages in the pride. And when Urania and Ayo aren't too busy gardening they and Bahari can show the cubs about which plants you use for healing. This would give the cubs at least a basic understanding of the world and how to navigate it. She loves learning, and more than anything she wants to help the cubs find something they're passionate about.

Lion name: Neith
Lion Gender: Female
Link to pride: Dendo'ai
Pride Status: Fire Warden
Prompt: 378 words

The whispers followed Neith all her life. They said that her coat was a curse, that it was the price she paid for what she had done. That she attracted flames wherever she went. It was all a lie, of course. She hadn't done what they accused her of. The fire that tore through her pride lands when she was young had, of course, not been her fault. How could a cub start a fire? But, superstitious lions still believe the tall tales when they see the flames that dance across her fur. She was born with her markings, and she was honestly quite fond of them. They were a reminder of her mission, her goal. She wanted to do her best to prevent it from happening again, she believed that no one should have to suffer the way her former pride had. But what is a lion to do? A lion cannot fight the sky. Neith spent her early years figuring out how she could achieve this goal of hers, and what she settled on was quite simple but effective. She found a tall perch on Dendo'ai's plateu where she could observe the clouds, and the valley below. She learned what the different cloud colors, shapes and densities meant. At the same time, she watched below. Any sign of smoke, or those dark and threatening clouds, and she would send Lyca off on a mission to warn the prides in its path. Whether they heeded this warning was their choice, of course, but prides quickly came to respect Neith's call and retreat to safety. Sometimes the fire never came. Sometimes, they were very glad they listened as they watched the flames consume everything, except for them. Neith realized one day, however, that simply saving the lives of the lions wasn't enough. Her goal would not be reached until they could stop fires in their tracks. So, she began to work out how to stop a fire. It was through much patience and work that she made the discoveries that would change the future of the valley. No one would need to lose their home to fires ever again. Now all that was left was to make sure that all knew, but that was Lyca's task, not Neith's.

Lion name: Fatin
Lion Gender: Female
Link to pride: Pekee Pamoja
Pride Status: Demi-God | Rogue
Prompt: (485 Words)
Rain pelted down hard, the ground now slick with red mud. A crack of thunder caused the puddles to ripple. Fatin turned her head, cocked with a grin at her companion. "Think you could tone it down, Ra'd? It's bad enough my paws are coated in clay."
Her gray companion sighed with a shake of his head. The rain eased up only slightly as another, much softer rumble of thunder rolled overhead. "Satisfied?"
    "It's an improvement."
"So what is it we're doing out here?"
"I told you, love. We are making a home for ourselves here. A place we can be who we are without repercussion. It will be a place to start our revolution. We would practically go unseen by the king here. Besides, with our powers combined, they won't think too much of it. Perhaps it would even deter them more. The less prying eyes the better."
"I suppose you're right. Thunderstorms and fires seem to flare up in this dead land quite often."
"I'm always right, Ra'd." Her tail brushed lightly under his jaw as she pressed forward.
"Of course, Fatin." He followed after her.
As soon as they reached the cave in one of the craggy mountains, they'd be safe to stop the storm. It was mostly to keep others away. Fatin was used to it. She had known Ra'd since they were adolescents. She remembered how lost he had seemed until she gave him purpose. He had been completely smitten. Perhaps that was part of what made him a good second. He held on to her every word, every breath. He would be a most useful ally. And it was nice to have a partner in crime. He may have teetered back and forth sometimes, but she knew what she wanted. Power. The fire that coursed through her was a raw power that made her fur itch. She didn't remember much of her childhood beside the fact that she was abandoned the moment she showed signs of magic. Her mortal mother couldn't bear the thought of her, she supposed. Her father was no better. Leaving her with a parent who didn't comprehend the consequence of mating with a deity. The only thing she was grateful for was the power he had passed on. She decided early on she wouldn't depend on anyone else. If no one was going to look out for her, fine. She was more than capable of taking care of herself. More than that, she wanted them to pay. Everyone that wronged her. Every time someone had skittered away like a coward or shunned her for being different. She'd show them. Her plan was to recruit others like her and Ra'd. Find others enhanced with magical powers to show those that were powerless that they were the lesser of the two. Even more if they could find other demi-gods to back their cause, they'd practically be unstoppable.

Lion name: Fiera "proud"
Lion gender: female
Pride: Lions of the Waves
Pride status: hunter
Prompt:

"You only need a spark to start a whole blaze
It only takes a little faith
Let it start right here in this city
So these old walls will never be the same"

'It only takes a spark' was a phrase Fiera had heard from a young age. It was the phrase whispered over her as a sorcerer gave her the powers of fire. It was the phrase she whispered herself, as she burned lands and overthrew kings. It only takes a spark to start a blaze. Together, she and her brother, who was given powers over the weather, were a single weapon. Firestorm. Some called them a god of destruction, though they were mortals. They were feared across many lands, their name whispered in warning tales to cubs and adults alike.

That was before. Fiera was no longer a weapon, and she no longer had powers of fire. Those had been stripped from her by the Great Lion, as punishment for the destruction she had caused and the lives she had taken. She was cast out of her pride, left to wander. And wander she did, until she had come to a new pride. She had grown a lot in that time, revolutionizing herself in much the way she had once revolutionized cities. Except this time, it was in a good way.

Now she stood beside Keahi, a young fire bender, as he looked out over the sea. Fire had a bad name, and he wanted to change that. He wanted to rebuild the old City of Fire, and make it a beacon of hope, not fear.

"I'm only one lion," Keahi said, his tone discouraged.

Fiera took a breath. Exhaled. "It only takes a spark," she murmured.

He looked at her. "What?"

"It only takes a spark," she repeated, louder, letting the words take on new meaning. Good meaning. "It only takes a spark to start a whole blaze. All you need is you, Keahi. Others will see, and will follow. Just like a spark catches one blade of grass, and then jumps from blade to blade. You just need one lion to start a revolution."

Keahi was silent for a moment. "You're right," he said at last. Then, "but I don't want to be the only one. Will you help me? Help me start this revolution, and rebuild the city?"

"I will."
