What is their favorite picture of themselves?:
Aloft in a meadow, spotted with yellow and purple blooms, a small kit lays content. Alone, free from the tethers of the world, that kit gazed up into the sky, her eyes squinting under the generous sunlight, reminded of what warmth truly meant. A few paces behind her, an older woman, with wrinkling eyes and graying hair, takes a picture to commemorate the occasion.
A few months ago, this kit, named Saoirse, had been dropped off at an orphanage. Her parents whisked her away before she could even understand it all. In those dark halls, she'd felt truly alone.
Some families would come in, hoping to adopt. Saoirse, however, was a difficult young girl. She did not bother to talk, growing fearful of speech, and decided to not make an effort to do so. This pushed many hopefuls away, forcing Saoirse deeper and deeper into dismay.
It wasn't until one day, an elderly woman arrived, alone. She came with a handful of caramel candies in her bag, smelling similarly to them as she passed by. Her face was flat with age, but her smile could light up the night sky.
She found Saoirse playing in her little room, and instantly a bond formed beneath the two. They played for a bit, and, even though the small kit did not speak, their hearts had a conversation meant for a lifetime.
Saoirse was soon after adopted by the woman, who swore to take the best care of her. A couple of months passed, and her new guardian brought her to her lakeside cottage, complete with a sprawling field in the backyard. That is when she fell to the grass, completely happy, and her picture was taken. Although Saoirse is a tad older now, she knows that picture will be forever with her. [300/300 words]
