(( elias's story ;;
this is the story of elias lloyd, king of the kingdom of hollowdark and husband to queen sarah wiggins of hollowdark. it all began the day the war began...
elias let out a cry as his parents cradled him and held him while the city below burned. "king orson of lostdark hereby declares war on the kingdom of hollowcry on grounds of the land originally belonging to lostdark," edward read from the scroll, eyes filled with sorrow as queen lillian and king aaron of hollowcry held their terrified son. lillian hushed elias quietly, the young keldine whimpering and trembling as the sound of destruction filled his ears. king aaron quickly rose to his paws and snatched the scroll from edward, his head advisor, and snarled as he shredded it. "my king, there is nothing you can do. he has received documentation that the lloyd family stole the land of hollowcry hundred of years ago. you must fight, or you will surely be destroyed," edward explained, but aaron just growled deep in his throat.
elias peered out at his father from between his wings, which he was using to hide his face. he had turned seven years old less than a month ago, and his mind was still in the ballroom as he danced with princess sarah wiggins of lostdark. "does this mean i can't see princess sarah anymore?" he whispered. thinking of his friend. lillian lifted elias's chin and shook her head sadly. elias frowned and looked out the window, quickly flinching away as he saw one of the empty barns burning. "why can't we just give them the land back? then we wouldn't have to be afraid, and i could see princess sarah again!" he asked innocently, and lillian's eyes filled with rage. she pushed her son away and stood, looking at elias with disgust.
"you weakling! we cannot just give up our kingdom! I was born into the lloyd family, and your father was born into one of my father's most trust advisor's family. you yourself have been born into the lloyd family and therefore have a right to the throne and this land when the time comes that your father and i step down. it may seem very far off, but your twentieth birthday will be here before you know it. you are weak to want to surrender," lillian roared, outraged at her son's suggestion. elias watched his mother's fury with a bland expression, used to her outbursts by now. aaron wrapped his wing around his wife and led her aside to talk to her in hushed whispers, but elias couldn't stop his thoughts from wandering to the dance he shared with princess sarah.

hollowcry and lostdark were still at war, and elias and his family had moved to their summer castle over seven years ago. elias was now fifteen, and he was already preparing for the day when he would be crowned king. as he muttered war strategy under his breath, he stepped onto his balcony and looked out over the countryside. it was peaceful and quiet, undisturbed except by the wildlife. a bird rested on the edge of elias's balcony, and he paused to watch it wake and flutter off with a beautiful song. he let out a sigh and slumped to the ground, holding his head in his paws. "i don't want to be king anymore, not if i have to continue this war," he whispered, chewing on his lip and running his fingers through his hair.
the soft thump of paws landing on his balcony startled him, and he turned to see a keldine dressed entirely in black staring at him. "you don't want to be king? i myself cannot wait to be queen," she whispered, sitting down beside him and pulling her mask off. elias's jaw dropped as he recognized princess sarah. he hadn't seen her since his seventh birthday part, but it was unmistakably her. he opened his mouth to ask why, to ask how, but she pressed a finger to his lips and giggled. "i was sent to spy but i just can't help myself when i see a gentleman in distress!" she grinned, looking down at him and lifting his chin up. "you've changed, prince elias, and i would like to say for the better," she mumbled as she inspected his face.
elias couldn't stop himself from blushing, but he did stop himself from pulling away and running like a kid who thinks they've seen a ghost. his mouth was dry and his heart thumped loudly in his chest as he stared at her, but she quickly pulled her mask back on. "i'd better get going, darling. i'll see you here in, oh, a week? until then," she said with a wink and blew a kiss at him before leaping back onto the roof. elias watched her go and slowly came back to his senses. he knew he should alert the guards to her presence, but he didn't want to stop her from coming back. for some reason, he was excited at the thought of her coming back just to see him. he noticed her standing next to a large window, and he swore he could see her wink before she dropped off the side of the building.

elias and sarah continued to meet, and they met weekly as the years passed. elias was now nineteen, and he was also hopelessly in love with the daughter of the enemy. as she dropped onto his balcony on schedule, he pulled her close and hugged her. "i love you," he whispered into her ear, and she leaned against him. he relayed the information of the movement of his parents' ships, having become the informant for lostdark, and the two sat down to talk. "i want to bring my parents down, once and for all. they're bent on destroying lostdark for good and not letting any of your family live. i can't lose you, sarah, but i have lost any connection i once had to my parents," he whispered, and sarah stared at him.
"that's a bit drastic, elias, but i can understand you. all my parents want is to destroy the lloyd family, and i don't want to let that happen. how about we bring both of our parents down?" she asked, with a smile. "we can bring about an era of peace, uniting hollowcry and lostdark. we can rule together, not having to worry about war or anything," she sighed, and then shook her head. "forget it, it was a silly idea anyway," she laughed.
"no, i love it. sarah, my twentieth birthday is in less than a month, and that's the perfect timing. your own twentieth birthday is probably two weeks after mine, so if we set fire to my castle and i hide until we set fire to yours, it could work," he announced, and sarah looked up at him with hopeful eyes. "it'll be hard, uniting the kingdoms, but i know we can do it. i can do anything as long as you're by my side," he whispered, and sarah smiled with wide eyes. "it'll take a lost of planning, but i think we can do it. and then we won't have to worry about war or our parents anymore," elias pulled sarah into a tight hug, breathing deeply before turning to the paper he held. "let's get started."
—
smoke choked his lungs as he hurled himself out the front door and into the bushes. his cuts and scrapes from the branches stung, but he watched as the white hot flames devoured the castle he'd lived in for most of his life. he felt no remorse for destroying everything he owned, but he frowned as his parents fell onto the front lawn. gathering his courage he stepped over to them, feeling sarah leave her hiding spot and follow him. "mother, father. i am twenty years old and ready to ascend to the throne. you are hereby banished from the new kingdom of hollowdark, ruled by king elias lloyd and queen sarah wiggins," he growled, and his parents looked up in fear. they stood, and aaron had to hold lillian back as she screamed at her son.
"i would advise you not harm my king," sarah warned, stepping forward with a sword clutched in her paws. aaron and lillian gathered the few possessions they had and turned to run, but sarah laughed. "we're not that cruel! we've prepared a carriage for you, and it will take out to a boat that will take you as far from here as possible. don't even try to warn my father, or i may actually have to use this sword," she twirled the weapon expertly, and elias couldn't stop himself from feeling a burst of pride. the former ruling pair of hollowcry quickly got in their carriage, and elias watched them be carried away while he held his arm around sarah's shoulders.
"let's go surprise your parents, and then it'll be downhill from there," he sighed, leading her towards their own carriage. ))
