I was called to this town on a short notice. The locals don't seem to care that I am a novice, they just want whatever is eating their chickens to be taken away. I truly doubt whatever is scaring them is paranormal. Cryptids are hard to spot, and rarely interfere with civilization.

After speaking with the locals and checking out the scene myself, I'm sure that there is nothing supernatural going on. But I must keep my word and I will stay and investigate tonight. Perhaps the pay of this job will get me a new notebook. This one is utterly disgusting and falling apart at the seams. Then again, newbies always get hand-me-downs.

I am making my way out to the chicken coop now. The farmer reported that this is when the "beast" usually strikes. I will write down my observations in the later morning. I highly doubt I will be dealing with a beast.

I am sitting in the kitchen of the farmer. My body aches terribly, I feel as though I just fought a whole army. I will write down my experience as the food is being cooked.
I sat outside of the coop, and began to admire the stars since the night was very still and quiet. I almost fell asleep, but a low, deep growl woke me from my trance. I quickly jumped to my feet. I was on high alert. The "beast" was here. The growling grew more and more intense, and I realized that it was not happy that I was interfering with it's supper. The snarling creature crept into my view, and my jaw dropped. I was utterly wrong. The locals were right, this was no simple coyote or stray dog stealing their chickens. This was a church grim. I quickly put two and two together, realizing that the ghostly creature must have come from the churchyard behind the farm. It's intention wasn't to eat the chickens, it saw the chickens and the farmer as a threat to the churchyard. I watched in awe as the pure black canine stared at me, bearing it's clean, white teeth, which stood out against it's black coat. What made it very distinguishable as a church grim was its vibrant orange eyes. I put my hands up in hopes of telling the creature that I was not here to hurt it. This action proved to be useless, as the church grim just launched itself at me, snarling and barking. Like any sane man, i ran for my life. I believe it chased me all the way to the house. Everything after that was a blur. I will speak with the locals and see what they would like me to do about this.

They have me archiving field reports. Yes. What am I, a librarian? This was never in the job description. Whatever. I've been reading through some journals from retired workers. There's many interesting things that I never knew. I cut out some things I found interesting, I don't believe I'm allowed to do that but this is my personal work journal that I will donate when I retire, so what harm am I doing?
"Selkies are extremely shy creatures. They're hesitant to even get close enough for me to speak with them. But once you gain their trust, it's almost as if they, too, are human. Their English is broken, but I am able to understand. I have learned many interesting things. Did you know that t-"
Unfortunately it cuts off there. The rest of the entry is lost. I don't feel too bad about nabbing it.

Vega has been making amazing process in her recovery. She can now move her left back leg. We're still working on the right. She's also picked up some human language, and has began repeating words. We never expected her to do something like that at this age, and we're all extremely impressed and proud. Vega is of course typical Vega. She took my keys off of my desk and sat on them, refusing to move, and she just cackled at me. If Japanese folklore is true when it says that kitsunes gain the ability to shapeshift around 50-100 years, then boy are we in for a load of trouble. We believe Vega is about 30 years old. This is the first kitsune that the organization has caught alive that we can study.

Miss Vega has become a little stow away in my suitcase. I didn't notice until I opened it up in the hotel and she tumbled out and laughed at me. She also brought a friend along. Acrux wasn't supposed to leave the lab. But I guess Vega had other plans.
