She walked, dirt fanning out behind her as she entered.
"
Hello, Navi." a voice chimed, greeting the female as she entered the small tent.
A small fell onto her face as she greeted her mother and father, both sitting cross-cross on a small mat. The tent was dimly lit, two small torches wielding harmless flames sat at each back corner.
A seemingly empty wicker basket sat near their feet.
"
Hello Mother, Hello Father. I heard you needed something?" She questioned, sitting down the same.
"
Yes. We wanted to talk to you about something." Her mother said in a sickly tone, her eyes tearing from Navi to look at Navi's father, who was frowning.

The thing about inexperienced thieves is that you can hear them coming a mile away. Despite the crunch of stones underfoot and the wind whistling through the trees, loose leaves skittering about, she could still hear them. She could see them, too, trying to sneak through the forest in pursuit; a bad idea when the moon is full, and your shadow is as stark as ink. It hadn't crossed her mind to be concerned. For them, maybe, but not for herself. She fingered the smooth statue in her pocket, waiting.
All three leapt out at once; one in front, one behind, and one to her side. Each held a short knife, gleaming dully in the moonlight. They had wicked grins upon their faces, but they faltered slightly when she showed no surprise. The tallest one, obviously their leader, stepped forward and raised his weapon. "Alright, no funny stuff, missy!" he growled. "Just hand over what you've got, and no one gets hurt."
The corner of her mouth curled up in a smile as she pulled the statue out of her pocket. Confusion passed over their faces. "What is that?" one of them whispered, but was silenced with a sharp hiss.
"Have you ever heard of the Galahai?" she asked. The same thief opened his mouth, but was once again silenced with a glare. "They were an ancient race of wolves," she continued. "Huge, as big as horses, who could speak in our tongue, and had magic in their veins. Noble, powerful beasts." The porcelain wolf in her hands looked just as so; you could see the power in its rippling muscles, and the bite in its curled lip and bared teeth.
"Back in the Old Days they were hunted almost to the brink of extinction. My ancestors were not wealthy, but they could make beautiful carvings from almost any material. People often stole from them, to sell their work for profit. One day my family happened to find the Galahai Chieftain, injured, and in secret they nursed him back to health. They knew what it was to be mistreated; they vowed to help the wolves, and it was they who kept them from leaving this world altogether. The Chieftain was moved by their courage and skill, and in return they were given the gift of protection, so that my family would always have help when in need. Our friendship still stands to this day - as does the vow that connects us."
The wolf began to glow, sending tingles throughout her hand. She threw it up into the air, and watched horror come into their eyes as it landed, standing full height, and very much alive. A snarl ripped from its throat, and the forest was full of shouting and fear as the wolf chased them into the forest. The noises faded to echoes, and then silence.
The wolf returned. She touched her forehead to theirs.
"Thank you."
A shiver ran down her spine; in her hand, the statue had returned.

Gale opened his eyes and blinked slowly, feeling different for some reason. His head felt fuzzy. Why did he feel like this?
In a flash, he remembered. Today was his 20th birthday, and his mother told him that she had a surprise. Grinning, he threw the blankets off of himself and got ready quickly. It felt like bolts of electricity were racing through Gale. He told himself that it was just the excitement.
Once his hair was brushed and put up in his signature space buns, Gale made his way downstairs. His mother was already sitting at the table and smiling at him, but nothing was in front of her.
"Where's my gift?" Gale asked, not caring if he sounded rude. His mother sighed and motioned for him to sit down. He obeyed and folded his hands in his lap, trying to keep still. "So um... what are we doing today then?" he continued and tried to pry the birthday plans from his mother's head.
She smiled at him again and tapped her fingers on the table, mulling it over. "For your 20th birthday, you'll be receiving a gift that has been passed down in this family for generations," she finally said and spread her hand flat on the table.
"Your gift is... magic," she announced and emphasized the last word. As she did, a glow appeared on her fingers and she waved her hand in the air. Magical images of the moon and stars appeared, spinning around her hand. With her left hand, she flicked her pointer finger at the images and cast them into the air. The whole room was suddenly dim, but there was light from the magical moon. Gale stared at it with wide eyes. "Can you teach me how to do that?"
"No, my sweet Gale, I can't. Because you have your own powers," she explained and reached across the table to grab his hands. She squeezed them encouragingly and ordered, "Close your eyes and concentrate on the blood flowing to your fingers. Your magic is in your blood."
Gale closed his eyes, his world getting darker and the image of the moon still burning against his eyelids. He tried to contain his excitement as he concentrated on his breathing and the flow of his blood moving to his fingers.
Suddenly, a gust of wind blew around them, circling like a cyclone. It wasn't powerful enough to blow them away, but instead, it seemed to be protecting them from the outside world. Gale could hear everything around them in the kitchen falling over and getting swept up in the strong wind. His hair blew behind him, but the wind never touched them otherwise.
Gale opened his eyes to see, and the wind dwindled slightly. He was still astonished - he had done that! He had the power of the air.
