Welcome to Baltic Huskies (BH) - the breed and forefront of the Baltic Winters Sled Dog Association (BWSDA)!
With the revival of the species, we are focusing on refreshing the old and bringing out the new! Our past event was called our Rescue and Stray Round up, so our welcoming event is going to be a simplified version of this!
Here you can find old dogs with brand new looks or new dogs showcasing new gene changes, all looking for homes! Each competition will be development based, but in a smaller capacity than the original event. This way, you are welcome to try out for multiple dogs the way you would any regular CS competition! So, if you knew of a dog that did not have a home from previous lines, keep an eye out! : )
You are welcome to both enter and take home as many dogs as you are able to! In order to enter, you must mark this event thread. It is also requested you mark the main adoption thread, but that is not necessary!
While we focus on this event, many of the other systems will be shut down so that the main priority is getting these dogs new homes. Once the event nears its end, other aspects of the species such as the title expo and the store will open!
We look forward to sharing our excitement with you and seeing you here! If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to staff! otherwise, enjoy and have fun!
About the Breed wrote:Baltic Huskies have changed over the years. The breed went dormant over some years, and during that time the bloodlines became a bit changed. Now, the original Baltic Husky looks a little different than the current breed!
These dogs still have strong, working group blood: they kept the Siberian Husky, Alaskan Malamute, and Akita build, but it seems that the Canadian Eskimo dog was brought in with heavy influence in the most recent lines. Baltic Huskies are incredibly heavily built, with strong muscles and wide chests and necks. They have become one of the more ideal sledding dogs for their strength and size: they stay the size of a Siberian Husky, but have a more bulky build that is better for pulling. This includes their typically well muscled legs and shoulders that help them with endurance and keep high speeds. They also seem to retain the Belgian Tervuren intelligence, but with the Border Collie breed being mixed in with the more recent bloodlines: this high level of smarts seems to be higher than most working dogs, and while they have the Samoyed passive nature, these dogs can have a wild variation of personalities. Most are stubborn and headstrong, and very independent: however, it is not uncommon to find one that is incredibly protective of their family, including their team and owner.
Training and owning one of these dogs is fairly easy, though. Once you find what your dog strives for and likes, working with them can be a breeze! For this reason, Baltic Huskies do well in a variety of different tasks! They do well as service dogs, but it has been seen for Baltic Huskies to have capabilities for sports like agility or herding given their other descendants. When trained properly, they can make good family pets as well: as long as you take them on enough walks, or have a big enough yard to play in!
So why not dive right in, and get a Baltic Husky of your own?
