Prompt - My mind grew quiet as I entered the gardens.
The smells of each flower made their way up to greet me with a
gentle touch of fresh air and sweet fragrance. And, it was not
long before I found myself laying down in the cool soil under a
large cypress tree.
The dampness of the ground was welcoming after my hasty get-
away. However, I was careful not to damage the little sprouts
reaching up for the sunlight, or the more mature and blooming
flowers.
Each no more precious than the last. It didn't matter how
tiresome my body or mind was, I am always minding my
footsteps. The plants always minding their own business, and
are so so delicate, fragile. It was only fair. As you could easily
crush them, and then that would be it for them.
But others can be stubborn, and regrow their way back from
the darkness. Always reaching for the light.
Some can only withstand certain climates, and need special
care to continue to live. May it be a constant dependency,
or just for particular seasons.
How are we much different?
Perhaps they just live in harmony with one another, and
smell much nicer than wet dog.
Or maybe I sympathize with them.I remember growing up in a place where we did not
have flowers. My brothers and sisters only knew life from
inside of a kennel. We were suppose to be guard dogs,
law enforcers, search and rescue... we were taught how
to take down threats, navigate rough terrain, and sense
danger. Seek out terrible, rotten smells.
I suppose they didn't really want a female dog in their
ranks because I was never picked. I watched each and
everyone of my siblings leave. They said I wasn't
aggressive enough for the job, and they were right.
I could have been that sprout, struggling in a world
they weren't meant to be in.
During training, I had fallen off course for search
and rescue purposes. I was suppose to be tracking
the smell of a man. Unfortunately, I lost the scent. I
searched and searched to pick it up again..until a
different scent had captured my nose. It was sweet
and intoxicating. Maybe a bit musky? I didn't look
back as I followed and followed and followed...
Some time between losing the man's scent and now, I
had managed to find my nose in a strange object. I
hadn't realized it, but it was a rose, to which I was
lucky not to have gotten poked by one of its thorns.
That sprout that is too stubborn to let go of the world,
until they find their place in it.
I never did look back after that day. I traveled until
I found myself one of the world's finest gardens.
By day I evade the town's dog catchers, and by night I
protect the garden from vermin.
And if I'm lucky, the townspeople will occasionally
leave scraps out for me.
That sprout receiving help in difficult times.xx

The garden is my safe place. It gives me peace, and in return I try to do the same for it.xxxxxxx
It shows me that life is valuable, that we can overcome the darkness, and we don't have to be aggressive to do it.xxxxxxxxx

Congrats conversett!! I absolutely adored the way this was written and how it shows the character's experiences through comparing herself to that of plants. <3
Honorable Mentions-
dino cat - I enjoyed the character concept and thought it was fairly cute.
jointedwishes - The idea of the flowers being a coping mechanism was very cute.
