the three she-cats padded side by side along the grassy bank of the river that cut through orchidclan territory. cherrystar was eager to take applepaw on her first hunting mission as an apprentice, and she knew canarywish would benefit from tagging along as well.

unfortunately, due to the lack of young cats in orchidclan, canarywish has yet to train her first apprentice- and according to the warrior code, you must have had an apprentice to be named deputy. sacrifices must be made, i suppose! the leader reassured herself.

applepaw has not actually left camp on official warrior business. all of her tasks thus far were helping with things around camp; such as tidying up, or securing the walls that the nursery hides behind. the young apprentice has yet to decide whether or not she fully wants to dedicate her life to orchidclan, at the moment she is only around the camp during the day and leaves to go back to her two-leg home at night. cherrystar decided that she would not have any ’fun’ apprentice duties until she trusted that orchidclan wasn’t just a silly hobby that applepaw would move on from.

sharp movement distracted cherrystar from her thoughts, and she turned her head to see a small mouse scuttling in the undergrowth. she motioned towards it with her tail, silently ordering canarywish to halt. she wanted to see if applepaw would pick up the scent- would cherrystar’s training pay off? or would she let the sights and sounds of orchidclan’s territory distract her?

Flame and Stream trotted through the plains, the two silent as they relished in the warm sun on their backs. Days like this couldn't get any better. Now, it was up to them to find prey. They hadn't caught anything so far, but they both remained hopeful. Flame's vivid pelt wasn't the best for hunting, but the tall grass they weaved through hid her well enough.

The she-cat was focused on keeping as silent as possible in the crispy grass when the scent of prey hit her nose. Shrew. Stream crouched to keep herself concealed as the Sun Keeper crept forward, her sight narrowing in on the small creature. Its head shot up the moment Flame landed on top of it, the she-cat quickly delivering the killing bite and sending up a small prayer of gratitude to the Moon Cats. +1 shrew, +2fp, +2xp

Flame grabbed the limp shrew in her jaws, turning back at Stream. The she-cat did her best to smile at her companion, but the sight of Flame's oddly curling lips sent Stream into a fit of laughter. "Come on, we have more prey to catch before dark!" Flame laughed, her voice muffled by the bundle of fur in her jaws. And so, they continued on.

Milo and Skye raced through the trees, their breathless laughter echoing through the forest, sending flocks of birds fleeing from their perches on trees. They'd been running for a while, but the pure freedom in the act was too much of a drug to stop. With nothing but the sky above them and the wind in their fur, they'd never felt more alive. Skye was looking happier going for a run, Milo decided. Maybe she'd feel better as she made more memories.

The two eventually reached a small stream and Milo immediately plunged in, laughing the entire time. With a sly look in his companion's direction, the tom reared up, slapping his paws down on the water and dousing the she-cat. In the end, Milo was the one who ended up soaked from head to toe. As the two caught their breath, Skye spotted a small silver fish darting through the water. On pure instinct, she flashed out a paw and scooped it onto the bank, where she then delivered the killing bite. She hadn't found any herbs yet, but she'd definitely proven her usefulness. That was when Skye spotted a raspberry bush by the stream and pointed them out to Milo. She explained their use as she gathered them, and the tom tilted his head. In all the commotion and fun, the two hadn't smelled a coyote nearby. It was when Skye caught sight of the coyote that they both froze. Will they pursue the coyote or ignore it?

Applepaw's head lifted into the air, her nose twitching slightly as she inhaled the scent of mouse. She looked back to Cherrystar, who gave her a nod of approval. The apprentice grinned, immediately dropping into a hunting crouch. She'd catch this mouse and prove herself, she had to. Applepaw crept forward, her ears pinned as she focused on remaining silent. The mouse's head shot up, alarmed as ever, but the apprentice was on top of it and biting into its spine before it could dart away.

Applepaw beamed, looking back at her mentor who nodded her approval. "Good job, Applepaw." Cherrystar purred, nudging her apprentice gently with her nose. "Let's keep going." +1 mouse, +2fp, +1xp

Flame padded gently through the tall grass with her nose to the ground, behind her Stream trailed behind, simply enjoying the walk in the light of the way sun rays that beat down from the radiant sky. New-Leaf was a wonderful time, that was for sure. The clan leader's ear twitched as she reared to an upright position, nose wrinkling and eyes squinting for a moment. "Ah...ah-choo!" She sneezed heftily, her whole body seemed to shiver for a moment as she rubbed her delicate nose with the soft fur on the back of her paw. Chuckling, she folds back her ears bashfully. "A feather tickled my nose."

The warrior smiles kindly as she comes to stand beside her, shaking her head. "Maybe you should be careful where you stick that thing. Besides, we shouldn't be sniffing for feathers, now, should we?" Stream chides, though there's not a hardness in her voice, more so merry amusement. "This is a patrol, dear leader!"

The red and white tabby she-cat chuffs, nodding with a roll of her eyes. "Yes, yes. I know. But there's no harm in stopping to take in the sights, huh? Look at it," Flame's head turns as she gazes out across the golden and verdant green fields of grass, the colourful bloom of wildflowers sprug in mild abundance. Even the distant scent of the ocean that lie beyond their terrible where their bordermates lived seemed to hit different. Overhead a seagull crowed, a second smaller one flying by its side. "It's a blessing of the sun, no doubt."

"Yes...a blessing," Stream agreed, closing her eyes and taking a deep breath serenely.

For a moment the two mollies stayed like that, soaking up the beauty of the day. When a few minutes past, Flame would brush her tail across the silver she-cat's flank and start to lead the way through the familiar patrol paths they usually take. "Let's start with checking the border and we can catch prey afterwards, eh?"

"Agreed!"

the badger attacked while blue was struggling to stay afloat, which on its own was hard enough without the threat of impending doom looming over her head. It swipes as quickly as it can but as all cats know, badgers are relatively clumsy creatures so, blue was able to dodge the majority of the badger's attacks. That is until a strong wave came and spun her around and she was pushed directly into the badger's outstretched paws. The badger managed to yank the cats tail before the streams washed her away. She waited until the stream had taken her far enough away that the badger was now only a speck in the distance. Blue managed to bob over to the edge and climb out of the water. Blue shook out her fur and upon close inspection blue realized she had sustainened a minor trauma The tail sprain requires no herbs, (can send cat out again)

Ignoring the pain in her tail blue searched for anything to ease her pain only to find instead a yummy looking fish. She scooped it up in her jaws with no trouble at all +1small fish, +2FP, +2XP

Mint that grows by stream was enjoying the company that came along with clouds on a rainy day so much they almost forgot to look for food! How silly of them. +1scraps, +1FP, +1XP
Clouds on a windy day seemed to be better at finding things than mint did. It would be hard for the silver spotted tabby to accept but she would manage somehow. However when cloud found some honey, the sticky sweetness got all in her fur! Which was slightly annoying for the long-haired cat. +2honey, +2XP

Owlstar, Swanstrike, and Lilacmoon padded along the territory’s edge looking for both herbs and prey alike while also watching out for predators. The Khan was glad for the serene companionship of the sharp-eyed Seer. She was always so gentle and helpful, and she had been hunting with young Swanstrike to help feed Owlstar while she had been laid up in the Queen den with the kits, for which Owlstar was still intensely grateful for. Their clan was so small, and with Doekit, Silverkit, and Emberkit coming into Apprenticehood, it was only going to get more interesting. She idly wondered if Lilacmoon was planning on taking a starpaw, but none of the kits had shown any sign of contact with the Gods yet, so the chances were probably slim.
They picked their way to the far edge of the territory by the rumbling waterfall that led down the cliff to the ocean a hundred feet below. Owlstar and Swanstrike lagged behind, dipping into the slower, shallower part of the river to search for fish and catch any they could. Lilacmoon spent that time hunting for herbs, weaving through reeds and tall grass. It allowed her to find a rock closer to the edge of the waterfall, the water that splashed from the river’s currents against the rocks and allowed moss to grow on the slippery rocks. A valuable resource when used correctly. Lilacmoon gathered quite a bit of it, rolling three larger pieces she was able to pull up into balls to dip into the cool water and soak up for the kits to drink. She called for Owlstar’s and Swanstrike’s help and they managed to soak them well enough to get back to the den and let the kits to lap at as they returned to patrol the border, still looking for supplies, but their attentions turned to the human camp the closer they crept to it, watching for rogues and kittypets alike, a normal part of the routine now.
