you have been awarded 6 sunflower seeds for your day 3 prompt

    Image

however, your plant has stalled at stage 2 because you missed the day 1 prompt and, consequently, Zaria planted the seeds wrong! don't worry, you can still get your plant to grow to its full beauty - just answer the below prompt in addition to the day 4 prompt (you still only need a minimum of 150 words for both prompts combined)

    Image
    additional prompt for fawn-

Oh no! Zaria must have had a mishap when she planted the seeds on day one, and now the plant doesn't seem to want to grow anymore. There's still a healthy sprout, but it's been days and the little thing hasn't gotten any bigger.

Hmm... maybe go to the greenhouse and tell Sorrel how you planted the seeds? Then she can help you
make sure the plant continues to grow up big and strong!

    Image
    current prompt - day 4: (ends 04/17/20 @3pm EST)

You go to check on your plant and notice that it's grown quite a bit since you've seen it last. Instead of just one sprout, there are now several. Oh boy, your plant is really starting to get tall, huh? That's just so exciting!

What does your moo think the plant is going to grow into? Or do they have no clue?

    ---

and because I was so late rolling over today, here is an extra prompt below for you to answer if you want to. everyone who answers it will receive +2 sunflower seeds ! if you answer it, the overall word limit is still 150 words (for the daily + extra prompt), and you don't have to answer it - just make sure you answer the daily prompt (above) in order to get credit for doing day 4 of the booth

    Image
extra prompt (optional): (ends 04/17/20 @3pm EST)

Now that your plant is starting to grow, maybe you can chill out some with the strict care and cut loose with the little plant. Maybe introduce your plant to a friend of yours? Maybe throw a little dance party for the two of you? Just do something to de-stress and add a little bit more fun to growing your plant - a stronger bond means a stronger plant!

Does your buttermilk find trying to grow the plant stressful? Tell me about something your buttermilk
does with the plant to de-stress, bond, and / or have a little fun.

Buttermilk: Andromeda
Prompt: (216 words)

Andie clapped her hands over her face as she noticed that her miniature sprouts she'd seen just two days ago were growing strongly and few even seemed to be showing signs of flower buds. "Oh, my gosh!!" she squeaked excitedly, dropping her bag and running to the nearest pot, picking up the nearest planter and holding it close to her face.

"I can't want to show these to Cas!" she grinned, eyes widening as she suddenly gasped and whirled around - fingers automatically tightening around the pot in her grip. "My phone!"

She placed the pot down quickly and rushed to her discarded bag, the multiple notebooks full of her guesses slipping out and her phone resting on top of the pile - thankfully uncracked. Andie let out a sigh of relief and picked up the device, a soft blush appearing on her cheeks as she unlocked it and the background of her and Cas came into view.

She was unable to stop herself from staring at the image for a few moments before shaking her head and snapping an aerial picture of her plants to send to her new friend with the caption: 'Look at them! No idea what they are yet, but I've made some guesses.. wanna come over tonight and help me figure it out?'

Extra Prompt: (217 words)

Andie hummed as she sketched a few of the buds poking their heads out of the dirt with music playing calmly in the background, leaning against the window of the greenhouse as she did. The glass building was currently full and she didn't have a reason to be in there at the moment, but didn't quite want to return home - Cas wasn't there yet, after all. Not that she'd memorised the girl's schedule or anything.

The sudden brush of wind against her arm alerted her to someone opening the door and she looked up to see none other than Sorrel standing above her, squinting against the sun. "Oh, hello Sorrel," she grinned, setting her pen down and looking up at the greenhouse owner.

"Hello, Andie.. planting starting to stress you out?"

"Oh, no," she laughed, shaking her head slightly. "Not at all.. it's the exact opposite of that actually. I find planting rather calming and growing here is giving me a lot of great ideas for my own garden at home - well, window box planter."

"Oh, well that's wonderful!" Sorrel exclaimed, lacing her fingers together before squinting at Andie's sketchbooks. "What are you drawing?"

"My sprouts! My neighbor and I are gonna hang out tonight to see if we can guess what the are before they flower!"

Sorrel's Greenhouse - OPEN

Postby ptarmigan » Fri Apr 17, 2020 12:51 pm

buttermilk: buona!
prompt: the next morning as the night cow shuffled inside of the greenhouse (a big yawn a permanent fixture across her muzzle as she was not used to being awake during the day) she was thrilled to see that the sprout had changed from one sprout to many! plus, the original (right in the center) was twice as large. excitement burst through her before a sudden realization knocked the wind out of her. buona had completely forgotten what seeds she'd even planted in the pot. knowing herself, it was not an edible plant (she put all those seeds in the garden beds in the greenhouse) but more likely a spare package of flowers that she had found leftover from last season's greenhouse planting. her stress dissipated as she thought logically...

extra prompt:
there was no way it was anything other than a flower, and besides, given time and patience the night cow would find out what the sprouts were. it would be pretty ironic if growing a plant caused her stress, considering the one thing she does to distress is garden! it's her favorite thing to do, no matter the season or the day or the weather. inside of a greenhouse is her version of paradise.

Buttermilk: Viola
Prompt:
The next time Viola enters the greenhouse, she sees immediately that her plant has sprouted some friends, her heart sinking into the pit of her stomach.

"I only signed up for ONE of you, not a dozen!" she snips, stomping over to the plot and heaving a large sigh at the number of small green buds poking up from the ground. She begins her regular plant care routine- watering the plants, making sure the soil around the sprouts is loose enough for growth, and adding a but of nutrients when necessary. Looks like her long nights of Moogling up how to plant-rear had paid off... a little too well for her liking. She takes a seat on a nearby chair, making sure there was no dirt on the seat before plopping down with an exasperated groan. She stares at the plant angrily, the grimace on her face slowly melting into an exhausted frown. "Whatever am I going to do with so many of them now?" she mumbles under her breath, taking to the internet to see if anyone can figure out what her plant may be. Unfortunately, nothing on Moogle was accurate enough to what she was seeing before her, so she calls up Sakura, one of the local gardeners.

"There's this app I have called iNaturalist! It helps me out a ton when I come across something I am not too familiar with! Download the app and then take a picture of it, I am sure people will help you out!"

With that, Viola downloads the app, taking a clear photo and writing down whatever she can describe about it, posting it and hoping someone will come to her rescue. (281 words)

Buttermilk: Viola
Prompt: Extra Prompt
There ended up being a day where Viola needed to get away from everything and blow off some steam, and lucky enough the greenhouse was open for her. She wasn't expecting to end up at the glass doors, but she sighed and let herself in, immediately trekking to her corner and checking up on the plant growing in the small plot. She figured that turning on a little music would take her mind off the anger she was feeling over her roommates; so she unlocks her phones and turns on her classical music playlist, humming a little Beethoven and she begins to clean the more dirty parts of the floor.

Before she knew it, she had been in the greenhouse for an hour and a half, just enjoying the quiet atmosphere and the scent of freshly turned soil. With a sigh, she packs her things, looks back one more time at her plant and then begins her journey back to the hotel. (162 words)

Buttermilk: Matcha
Prompt:
Matcha basically squealed with excitement as she saw more seedlings start to shoot up out of the dirt. She counted them... one, two.... there was seven! Seven sprouts!!! The flowery heifer wondered what could possibly be growing before her in the little pot of soil. It was something she was constantly wondering about, even after she left the greenhouse for the day and returned home.

She snickered to herself at the thought of one of her favorite flower varieties sprouting up from her seeds. Imagine big, tall sunflowers shooting up from the pot! That would look so silly! Although, probably not super healthy for the plants, so hopefully that wasn’t it. Maybe something just as beautiful, but on a smaller scale? Maybe the seeds were tulips! And if they were tulips, she wondered just what color they would be? Yellow? White? Red? Pink?! Ooh she hoped there would be one of each color when they were done growing!

(158)

/ / /

Matcha stared in wonder, puzzling the hours away at what her seeds could possibly be growing in to. This little pot had taken up so much of her time and energy, but she loved what she was doing nonetheless. It was suggested by Sorrel, the keeper of the greenhouse, to find ways to keep gardening less stressful. Matcha had a great idea for what to do.

Now, as part of her new daily routine, Matcha would put on some music, low enough as to not disturb anyone else, but loud enough for her and her plants to hear. She would sing to her seeds softly as she watered them and re-soiled the pot. Once she was finished with the hard work, she scooped up her plants and held their pot gently in her arms, swaying easily back and forth with them while continuing to sing to them. Singing and dancing would be fun, and hopefully her seedlings enjoyed the music and the movement too!

Buttermilk: Bedelia
Prompt: "Good morning, little sprout! How are- oh!" Bedelia calls in a singsong voice as she walks into the greenhouse, but cuts off when she spots her pot. "You... have... FRIENDS! Woo-hoo!"
Bedelia picks the pot up, now with multiple sprouts, and twirls in a circle before setting it back down. Then, she leans in closer to observe it. Something is strange about the sprouts, and a little familiar, but she just can't place it. Sorrel never told her what she was growing. Maybe it was a plant she'd seen before. These sprouts, though, had brown stems and leaves sticking off the top. After a quick walk around the greenhouse, Bedelia decided her sprouts didn't look like any of the plants Sorrel was growing. What were they? Finally, Bedelia realized she'd just have to wait and see. She gave the sprouts another drink of whatever and left for the day.
Extra Prompt: Bedelia walks down the main lane of the farmers market, her precious pot in her arms. At first she had attempted to use a leash, but the pot hadn't wanted to move on it's own! In fact, it felling to the ground and started crying (actually, it dropped a leaf, but Bedelia assumed it was crying). Bedelia had been around enough youngins to know that it wanted carried instead, so that's what she did. Now, she glances right and left at the booths along the market. Just then, she spots exactly what she was looking for: a booth selling art supplies! That morning when she had entered the greenhouse, she noticed all the other plants had pretty pots, but hers was only the boring orange color, and immediately felt bad. How had she not realized that her baby was naked! No wonder he hadn't been growing as fast as previous days! He was sad! Bedelia had been stressing about this issue, and now she knew what she had to do! At first she had wanted to purchase fabrics, but it was too warm in the greenhouse to put clothes on her pot and no way to sew anything either. Finally she had decided on the next best thing, decorating its pot with paints. Now that she has the paints purchased, though, she remembers that she has absolutely no art skills. With her pot before her on the ground, she paints the one thing she knows how: a smiley face. If nothing else, at least her plant could be happy! (408 words total)

    Buttermilk: Crowley
    Prompt:
What does your moo think the plant is going to grow into? Or do they have no clue?

Now, over the many years of their life, Crowley has grown many a plant. Everything from weeds to bonsai, they've cultivated them all. (And yes, the weeds were for spite, thank you very much. Listen Mazel deserved it with the way she yelled at anything that breathed within a foot of her lawn. And, yeah, sure, maybe it wasn't necessary to encourage the weeds to grow in a perfect circle just to make her think she'd been invaded by fae folk, but it had been pretty funny and Crowley had always been just that dramatic.) Anyway, the point was, Crow knew a thing or two about plants. Except. They had no idea what this thing was. And it was both exciting and infuriating at the same time! How dare it be something they didn't know! But also what wondrous new thing could it be? There were endless possibilities and Crowley had no idea where to even start.
    157 words

    Bonus:
Does your buttermilk find trying to grow the plant stressful? Tell me about something your buttermilk
does with the plant to de-stress, bond, and / or have a little fun.

Contrary to everything the subject has displayed so far, gardening is their de-stressor of choice. Yes, they might get a little worked up about it and, yes, they might be a little bit dramatic in their efforts, and yes it did involve quite a lot of yelling and quite a lot of threats, but, in a weird sense, that was helpful. It was like all their tension just bled out into the plants - not that they'd ever admit that out loud. And, besides, it was good to talk to your plants right? They were really only doing what one was supposed to do. It was just...their own twist on it was all. Besides, it wasn't just yelling. No, of course they never bothered to praise the plants. They didn't want them getting lax and fear was a key component in making sure the plants were trying their hardest, after all. However, they did play music for the plants as well. It always seemed to help them relax so logic dictated the same applied here too.

    Buttermilk: Holly
Prompt: "well, it's really too young to tell," holly started. "i don't want to toot my own horn, but i'm pretty knowledgeable about local flora. however, i usually don't get to see them when they're this young!" she confessed. "but i sure do hope it becomes a beautiful flower - maybe something pink, those are favored by rosemallow!" she smiled as she imagined all the different flowers it could be (if it grew up to be a flower at all!) - something big and beautiful, or something small with lots of little buds, or something prickly like a rose! she chuckled at the thought - if she was a flower, a big red thorny rose would be pretty fitting, so it seemed fitting for that to be what she was growing. but really, she had no clue - just a bit of optimism, and a hint of a background in growing plants.
holly doesn't find growing the plant stressful at all! it's a lot of work, but she's up for it - she likes gardening, and this is an important task to her! but still, there's no harm in having a little fun. work hard, play hard, right? holly curled up beside the plant and sung it a short lullaby. she found it soothing - even though she was singing to the plant, the calmness of her voice made her a bit sleepy, and it's hard to be stressed while singing a pretty tune. besides, it made her feel like she was helping without actually doing work - watering, or adding plant food, or anything of the sort. it was just her and the plant. for a moment, she thought she saw the sprout swaying a bit to her voice - but that would be crazy! she must've just nodded off for a second - maybe she was a little tired from taking care of the plant! Buttermilk: Nessa
    Prompt:
Nessa gazed down upon her plant - oh wait, plants! - with visible confusion. What could they possibly become? Nessa was never particularly well-versed in plant terminology. Not by a long shot. Maybe a.. bean? Or a carrot? Do carrots even look like this? WAIT no. Carrots are leafy. I know that. Maybe a flower? Oh wow, I really hope... what was her name... Primose becomes a flower!! Wait a second. Primroses? I don't think this name thing really works anymore. Nessa shook her head. This was the most excited she had been over something so small in a very long time. It was almost refreshing to cut loose and let her brain do whatever it wanted to do. Nessa wasn't a particularly religious person, not in the slightest, but she did drop a quick prayer in case anyone was out there listening that her plants would be even bigger and stronger the next day. [155]

    Buttermilk: Nessa
    Prompt:
Nessa didn't find trying to grow the plants very stressful at all. In fact, it was quite a therapeutic experience for her, minus a few 'what do I do' moments. She absolutely loves learning new things and had never even touched potting soil before at all so she really enjoyed the experience so far. She did find herself growing quite attached to the little green things. Nessa admittedly put miniature hats on the plants, but quickly took them off when they started keeling over from the added weight. She also ended up naming them all individually, though she could never remember each one's name was the next day. It's the thought that counts, right? Whenever she went home she was worried sick about whether she forgot to water the plants or some other sort of vital procedure, but the happiness seeing the plants gave her made up for the rough patches. Buttermilk: Bloom
Prompt:
Bloom woke with excitement, practically jumping out of bed after opening her eyes. She had just remembered that yesterday her seeds sprouted! And now it was today and she didn't need to wait any longer before she could pay another visit to the greenhouse!

She arrived at the greenhouse at her usual time, early to mid-morning, and made her way to the table once again, the clacking of her hooves on the stone echoing throughout the building. When Bloom found her pot and looked down at the soil, she was shocked to see three sprouts!! One was a slight bit taller than the others, she imagined that was the one from the day before, and the other two were newcomers, new little buddies.

As per usual, she brought her pot over to what she now liked to think of as her personal special corner. She set it down and knelt beside the sprouts. "My how big you've grown! I'm so proud of you! Pretty soon you'll need a bigger pot!" she joked. "Hmm, come to think of it, I still don't know what you are yet."

While Bloom had a strong passion for observing and enjoying the presence of flora, this was still her first time caring for one of her own. As such, she knew nothing about the specifics of plants, or even how to tell them apart besides obvious differences in appearance that anyone could point out. She couldn't possibly take a guess at what hers was going to grow into.

Bloom decided to go hunting for that "Plant Care" journal again, and when she finally found it, she brought it back to her pot. She didn't remember much about the seeds, having planted them several days ago now, except that they were small and smooth. The problem is, that described most seeds, as far as she knew.

She flipped through the tattered pages, looking through all the possibilities. "Wow, these plants sure are pretty," she looked up at her sprouts, "I can't wait to see what you become. But there's no pressure, of course." After several minutes of investigating the journal, Bloom finally set it down. As little as Bloom knew about plant care, she did know that the germination and sprouting was the hardest part and that after that, you could be a little less strict with the plant care.

Bloom, realizing that because the plant had sprouted she didn't need to worry about it as much, made a sigh of relief. While the process hadn't been incredibly stressful so far, she had noticed a slight increase in worry lately, projecting her anxieties about the plant on other regular things. But she was past that stage now and could enjoy this journey with her plant just a little more. "Well, now that you've grown so much, I suppose it's time to get to know each other huh?"

The gentle heifer nuzzled the sprouts, making sure to be careful, the last thing she wanted was to harm what she thought of as her new child. Another thing she had heard of before, was that one of the best ways to bond with your plant is to talk or sing to it. So she did just that. Although her soft voice was barely audible, Bloom began to sing little lullabies to the sprouts, smiling. And when she finished, she decided to have a pleasant conversation with the plant, her eyes twinkling.

After a few hours of a combination of humming, chatting and snoozing with the sprouts in the warm greenhouse, Bloom decided it was time to say goodbye for now. The sun had reached low enough in the sky that it was shining into the greenhouse, casting shadows across the stone slabs.
