A family with a few small kids were having a picnic down at one of the parks not far from SFA when these two appeared! As kids do they made some little flower crowns and necklaces for the little kitten and its friend. However, as their picnic rolled to an end they knew they couldn't take them home, so they dropped them off here!

bootsie wasn't supposed to be at the park.
she was supposed to be outside the den, waiting for kitty boy to come back.
alas, the free-spirited she-cat longed to explore.
she had never meant to come across the little lost girl.
and she especially didn't mean to help the girl find her family.

bootsie was roaming through the park, when she heard the faint sobbing of a child.
she tried to ignore it, but curiosity got the better of her.
the young cat crossed over the sand box positioned in the center of the park and followed the feeble sounds into the grass area.
a little girl was in the middle of the grass, her pale pink easter dress tucked neatly under her legs.
bootsie strolled over to the girl and sat down a good five feet in front of her.
the girl looked up from where she was crying and stared at the tabby cat.
she gently brushed her dress and stood up, moving her hand across the air in front of bootsie to try and pet the cat.
bootsie, startled by the motion, gave a faint hiss.
the young girl pulled her hand back and began crying, again.
bootsie felt bad and did the unthinkable.
she rubbed her head against the girl's leg!
for the next hour or so, bootsie and the girl cuddled together and watched the birds fly by.
the little girl began to pick some daisies out of the grass, her tears all dried up.
the tabby watched as her new friend laced the flowers' stems together into a circle.
the girl then preceded to place the flower circle onto bootsie's head, giggling in the process.
bootsie sniffed, the flowers felt strange.
just as she was about to wiggle the "crown" off, a woman's voice called out.
the little girl turned around and ran a few feet away.
she kept screaming "mommy!" until her voice gave out.
bootsie walked over to her friend and gave a sweet purr.
whatever had happened, the girl wanted the woman to find her.
it was then, that the cat who had never taken a fondness to people before, decided to find the woman.
she ran off, leaving the little girl behind in a mix of tears, dust, and petals.
bootsie followed the sound of the woman's voice through the park.
she had been searching for almost ten minutes, when she spotted a man, woman, and little boy calling for someone.
this must be the girl's family, she thought.
it took a few minutes to get the attention of a family member, but bootsie had always been persistent.
eventually, the man heard bootsie's caterwauls and watched as the she-cat raced halfway across the park and than back.
he told his family to follow him, which was a surprise considering it was a cat they were following.
bootsie led the group to where her friend was, making sure to circle back to them to make sure they were following.
when the little girl and her family locked eyes, they all cried.
it was a beautiful moment, even for bootsie.
and yet, even though the young children asked and pleaded to keep the cat that had helped find the little girl, the woman and man decided to bring bootsie to their local shelter.
she hadn't meant to let them pick her up...it just, sort of happened.

She was there in the first place because a stray mother cat gave birth under a tree in the park and she’s lived there surviving off picnic scraps and kids her whole life.

“Please don’t leave me.” the kitten whined as the older, more experienced, feline left the den. “I’ll only be a few hours.” his voice echoed throughout the small hole’s walls. She gulped, but kept her mouth shut. She curled up at the bottom of the damp, cramped place they called home, and shut her eyes, everything went blurry, then black as she slept…
She awoke the next morning, Feather had still not returned. She was worried, she got up and stretched out her limbs. She took a yawn and lapped up some of the puddle of water before heading outside the hole. The sun blinded her until her eyes flicked to adjust to its brightness. She looked around the grassy fields of the park, and noticed a family. Not too far was Feather, stalking them from the bushes. She shook her head and walked towards him. “Found any… food?” she asked him, his concentration still on the basket full of food. He nodded, “We have to play this right, that is the jackpot.” he said as he licked his lips. She half-laughed and stretched again, “Watch and learn, and please, copy me.” she flicked her tail in his face as she walked out of the bushes. She flicked her tail and walked formly, trying to look as elegant as possible. The kids opened their mouths in awe, as she walked over and rolled on her stomach, trying to puff out her ribs. “Awwh, mom, I think they're hungry!” the first child whined, as they reached for some chicken. At this moment, Feather bounded his way out of the bushes. “Aha, that’s what they're playing at.” their mom shook her head when Feather rubbed himself against the second child. Ivy ran her way over, away from the meal, and started doing tricks. Humans were easy to fool, and they had the yummiest foods. While she danced and did magical tricks, Feather snuck away food, munching away at crackers, chicken, peanut butter and more! It was an all you could eat buffet for cats, and it was sitting right here. Until the second child reached back for some crackers and instead found the stray swallowing them, barely chewing. He started to scream and cry, which frightened Ivy that she backed away with her ears flat. Feather attempted to push her away but the dad emptied the picnic basket with whatever was left and stuck them inside. They woke up at the shelter, Feather was stuffed, while Ivy was starved. It was risky, they didn’t want just plain old birds, nah. They wanted the good stuff; they got caught in the end. Maybe bandits is just another play of life?

Feather had woken up early, it was a rainy day, he had decided to go out and find some food. He could always tell when it would be nicer the next day, he decided to camp out until the next morning. The kit whined, and begged to come with him. “No, I will come back and bring you food later.” he said sternly, turning to leave as his tail brushed the walls behind him, he sighed. “Stay safe kid.” he muttered before he left. He was going to leave her, but first he felt he needed to get her some food. He had left her at the park as he knew it very well, and it was safe. No hunters allowed. He slept in some bushes under a tree that night, it had a small hole, nothing drastic but it would do. He awoke the following morning to laughter, he smelt children, and his meal. He licked his lips as he waited for the right moment. He was just about to leap into action until Ivy jumped in front of him. He jumped back, startled. He listened to nothing she said, but he snapped back into time when she flicked him on the nose with her tail. She walked straight up to the humans, and they were going to give her food! He wasn’t going to miss out on gold like this. He leapt out of the bushes, and tried to rub against the humans. He hated giving affection to people like this. Then, Ivy gave up her chance on food by distracting them. He gobbled up food, not even taking a chance to savour them. The child reached back and grabbed the fur on his neck. He hissed and scratched his arm, which caused him to scream and cry. Next thing he knew went like a blur, he was being grabbed then put in a basket. Ivy still believed he would come back… How could he live with himself after this little kitten trusted him so much?! I guess life throws mysteries at you..

Thor hissed as defensively as he could while the humans wrapped him in a towel and into a carrier. He was quite large for his age, leading the rescuers to over estimate his age as they were talking. A carrier next to him carried the slight scent of another cat. Blue eyes looked at him through the small holes. "Where are we going?" His voice squeaking in his younger age, possibly catching the other cat off guard.
"Don't worry, these people are nice. We will get a new home soon anyway." Her soft soothing voice calming him slightly. "Out of curiosity, why were you in the park? someone as young as you?"
He curled up and closed his eyes. "My mother left me and my siblings, I left to try and find her, but I got lost, didn't know what I was doing anymore and guess, just wanted to make that place my home." A soft sigh escaped his lungs, only for a small purr to come from next to him.
"It's easier with others."

The small blue she-cat stretched out as far as she could in the carrier she was placed in. The young tom next to her, almost her size. He didn't seem to open up until you asked the questions. Her heart skipped a beat in fear as his voice spoke up after a few moments of silence.
"Why were you in the park?"
A purr of glee came from her chest. "I like watching the ducks on the pond. How they can sit in that water like it's almost nothing, and are just one with it. And they fly! Almost everything a cat wished they could be. I just didn't away fast enough. My owners will be back soon for me anyway." She curled up, laying her tail over her nose and tried her best to enjoy the bumpy ride.
