The kitten was caught in an unfortunate spot with some piping, where the puppy sat besides to keep the kitten company. It was just about to rain when a passerby found them and called the fire-department to help free the kitten, holding the puppy all the while. They were sent here afterwards to get warmed up and socialized.

Acorn has always been quite calm and cautious, making sure she and her humans were alright. She would lie down in the sun, sleeping through her days. Until she met Jules.

It started when she was laying outside in the sun, the light breeze through her fur. The birds chirped and her humans were cutting the lawn. The fresh scent of cut grass filled her nostrils. She perked up, startled, as she got sprayed by water from the hose. She ran off, her hair standing up. She ran in… fear? Acorn had never been one to like water, she would refuse baths. Acorn ran until she felt comfortable again, but she was lost. The screeching of cars zooming by, and the sounds of people filled her ears. She realized that the relaxing times were over. She wandered around, trying to find a quiet and safe place to sleep, when she approached a small dog. She looked into its eyes, and saw herself. A scared, lonely creature who just needed some love. She curled up next to it and slept.

She then spent everyday together for a few days, possibly weeks! They ran and played, and she had never felt so alive. They would steal the most amazing foods. They heard their bellies rumble and they would set off for another restaurant. They both found a restaurant they had never been to before, so, Acorn being smaller, travelled through some pipes. She looked behind her and saw Jules being swatted away by a broom. She tried to leave the pipes to help her friend, but was trapped! She meowed as loud as she could. Acorn knew the human had left, but she felt Jules' presence near her. She settled down, and fortunately a girl came by and gave them some water. Later firefighters came and lifted her out of the pipe, and she shook her fur out.

She watched as the girl left her and Jules alone at the shelter. They had only wanted someone who would love them, and they would stay together no matter what. Acorn often stayed close to Jules, and didn’t leave his side.

Jules is like a small hurricane!
Always energetic, he loves running everywhere, jumping and if it were for him he would play all day. He is sweet and affectionate but needs a lot of movement, he is a small dog who has the courage of a lion and would do anything to protect his friends, especially Acorn!

The two are inseparable from the day they met, Jules was just over four months old when he ran away from his family's yard to chase an insect, once outside he chased the animal for whole blocks without even realizing that he had moved away from his home. That night was the worst, he could not find his way home and found shelter under a tree by the roadside, it was cold and he was lonely but there was nobody there to help him. When everything seemed lost, a small sweet-eyed cat appeared like a vision on the opposite sidewalk, the two looked at each other without making a sound and then she approached and crouched next to him.
Days and maybe weeks passed by, the road had made them more enterprising and Jules was the most daring of the two, they darted together along the road, along the cultivated fields, stole the leftovers of the restaurants and combined trouble every day but had a lot of fun. Acorn with his reflexivity and cunning completed Jules' impulsiveness and courage.

To change their life was an unfortunate day! One morning they went in search of something to eat, being smaller and more flexible Acorn slipped into some pipes adjacent to a local restaurant following the smell of food. Everything was going well but when the owner realized that Jules was guarding his friends he did not hesitate to take a broom to make him go away, the agile puppy dodged the object which however ended up on the old pipes causing the collapse of one of these. The man frightened by the hustle and bustle ran away and Jules felt proud of having sent him away until he realized that his friend was trapped! He did not panic but remained close to his trapped friend, he would not leave her alone for any reason.

Fortunately a girl found them and gave them both some water to drink, called the firefighters to free the trapped kitten and then the shelter, she was a nice lady with a big heart who, however, could not take them with her.
"I hope they'll find a safe place," she said to the shelter volunteer before she saw them leave.

Acorn and Jules had never trusted humans but from that moment something changed, there were bad humans it is true but there were also good humans willing to give love. Now they know they want a place to feel good and feel safe after a long time, but surely the gesture of the unknown lady and their deep friendship will always remain in their hearts. In the future they hope to be adopted by people who will allow them to meet to relive the old game moments together!

Prompt - Hana remembers when she had first gotten in trouble with her partner in crime. They had found out about where the shelter had kept all of the food, it’s storage room. It held treasures that the two seemed out and were already planning to hit once they heard about it. The two got their plan ready, wanting to strike when the staff was talking out the other pets.
Hana ushered the pup into the hallway and over to the dog, it wasn’t a doorknob so it was quite easy to pull the door handle down and have the pup sneak in. The door was locked on the inside without a key, so anyone who got stuck would be found later. Hana would wait and hold the door just slightly open as the pup searched around for some treats. The mistake was when the dog had tired to get something and just wasn’t tall enough and of course, Hana was the cat.
As Hana was called she had forgotten about the door and let it close, locking it to them. They would only realize this after they had eaten into a bag already and stuffed themselves.
Hana walked over to the door, trying to pull down on the handle. That’s when the panic hit. She kept pulling down and down, thinking it would open when she tired enough. Then the pup joined in, pulling down, putting all their weight on it. It wasn’t gonna happen, but now they would have to reveal the scheme without not being known.
The two called out and of course the staff found them, two bags of treats ripped open on the floor and two trapped friends smiling and wagging their tails as they gave the sad eyes to the staff. They wouldn’t get in too much trouble, but they were never allowed to be alone when everyone else was getting outside.

“Run!!” The young Italian greyhound yelped, turning to run from the threat. Though the alarmed yowls of Lorelei’s feline parter stopped her short in her tracks, turning to rescue her- she leapt at the man snapping at whatever extremities was closest to her at the time. The heavy-set man was holding Nyx by the scruff of her neck, the kitten hissing and clawing at his exposed wrist. Angry and pained, the man basically tossed the spotted tabby aside, Lorelei’s heart sunk as she watched her friend land on the concrete. Enraged, she grabbed hold of the man’s ankle, shaking her head, Lorelei ripped her teeth into his flesh- drawing blood. He let out a great yell and kicked her off of him, his foot landing square in her chest, causing her to lose breathe and fall back. Lorelei let out a whimper as she scrambled to her feet, her chest was quite sore now, but Nyx had finally joined her. The two of them winded and aching.
The man grabbed them both by their scruffs while they were caught off guard, tossing them in the back of his white van, the words animal control sprawled on the side. Filled with panic the puppy let out loud whines and barks, her voice bounced off the walls loudly. “Lorelei stop!” Nyx yowled in annoyance, causing the dog to quiet down with her ears lowered, “We need to figure out how to escape,” Nyx nodded slowly, bright eyes scanning the area. Lorelei thought for a moment, hopping to grab a flat object in her maw, “Move Nyx,” She barked, her voice muffled as she slid towards the door, nearly mowing over the kitten. She hopped up on the van doors, flipped her muzzle sideways- slipping the flat piece between the two doors. She wiggled her head and hopped back when the doors clicked. Slowly the van doors opened, the pair hopped back, the man was driving the van quickly on a highway.
“What now?” Nyx asked, looking at her canine friend, “U-uhm, jump?” Lorelei couldn’t think of anything else, “Cats always land on their feet right?” She asked with a goofy smile. The two looked at each other nervously, with a deep breathe they stood up at the same time. “One...Two...Three!” The pair counted down and on three leapt out the back. Lorelei grabbed hold of Nyx’s scruff with her maw as they skidded down the asphalt. Soon they came to a halt and had to dodge a large truck and a car to make it to the other side of the highway. Once they were safe, the two flopped down in the grass laughing breathily. Luckily the two escaped with only minor scrapes and bruises.
