Vakt was hiding in his cave during the storm. The water outside his shelter had turned dark and seemed to swirl with the force of the wind. Vakt was honestly worried that he would be swept away. It was as he was pressed against the cave wall that he saw it float by. The current dragging an orb into the dark waters. Vakt blinked, that wasn't an orb! Vakt shot out of his cave before he could second guess himself. He wrapped himself around the egg and held on for dear life as the current swept them both away. It would have been possible for him to let go and maybe swim back to his shelter, but he couldn't abandon the egg. So we was stuck floating for the storm. Eventually the sun came out and the waters calmed, and Vakt tiredly dragged the egg back to his cave. It took the better part of the day to get home. Vakt and the egg seemed to have been drifting for hours.

Once Vakt and the egg were at the cave, he carefully observed the egg to ensure it was ok. The egg was cool but had a steady heart beat. Wait, cool? Weren't eggs supposed to be incubated to stay warm and healthy? Vakt was instantly worried and carefully wrapped himself around the egg. He would keep it warm with his own body. And once it was warm enough he would try to find the nest that it had been yanked from by the fierce waters. For now though, he would sleep and incubate the egg. A nap was desperately needed.

His parents gave this to him, and while he's still a baby they've engrained it into his head that he must protect it at all costs! It's supposed to be a.. what do they call it? Family earloom? Whatever, it's supposed to be passed down through the generations! He thinks it makes him look kind of girly, so he doesn't love it but he tolerates it. It's fun to play on, at least!

Sid discovered this massive blue quartz orb shortly after he hatched; he'd been chased back into an unfamiliar cave system and found it resting there, totally out of place in the dark, dreary earth around him. It was giving off a strange energy vibration, one that made him feel warm, safe, and.... powerful? He quickly grew possessive of the giant stone, having never seen something like it before, and guards it viciously. He sleeps on it every night, and it allows him to dream of a future where he will be King of the Forest, preyed upon by none, and feared by all. And this stone's power was the secret to all of his deepest desires.

What Sid does not realize it that while the stone is not found in his biome, it is actually very common in the northern, frozen lands. So common, in fact, that an entire kingdom uses it to decorate their knights, their beasts, and their castles. The stone there is valued for its warming properties and calming energies, and coveted by other kingdoms as a key point of trade. One day, an adult Sid will be chased out of his home and forced north into the unfamiliar snow. Nearly half frozen, he will be rescued by that very same kingdom by a young princess who is coming into the throne far too soon. She'll nurse him back to health, he will be assigned to her as her mount, and he will bond to her so intensely that he'll forget about his stone- but she won't. That very same stone will be crafted into adornments for Sid's military battle armor, armor that will save both his and her own life when a neighboring kingdom attempts a power grab, and almost succeeds.

What Sid did not realize, was that his precious blue stone has set him on a path of legend.
