Meaning: The jet black cracks that adorn his flank is a marking that has been passed down through generations. A mark that represented a curse bestowed by the goddess of destruction. Enraged by the needless massacre one of his grandfathers committed, she placed these jagged stripes so everyone would recognize this man as an abomination. Not only was he cursed, but it was destined for his entire bloodline to bear this burden. Any offspring he had would also have this mark. This mark is a reminder of how Jabali needs to be better.
The golden mask that he wears on his face, however, is a blessing. The god of creation- the equal to the goddess of destruction- while he couldn't remove the cursed markings, could place a marking of his own to represent the strength and bravery he showed in the face of disaster. This mark represents who Jabali truly is despite his past and his curse.
Since his face is usually what people notice first, it doesn't bother others as much that he also bears a cursed marking. He may not be able to remove the curse, but he probably wouldn't even if he had the chance. Both the curse and the blessing make him who he is. Good and bad. (211 Words)

Trinity was raised on these words. Her parents interpreted her unique, gilded facial markings as such, given that neither her mother or father had such markings or colors on their pelts, but mask-like markings was a common trait shared by the former and currently reigning Demon King. She was the cousin of the Demon King, and her parents felt they had every right to the throne and, thus, so did Trinity.

To Trinity, her golden marking meant that she had to become stronger, strong enough to defeat the reigning King, and her entire life was consumed by it. She spent all of her days training for combat, practicing her skills, picking fights with strong opponents, nearly getting herself killed on several occasions. Growing stronger each and every day while, each day, her loathing of the current Demon King grew and grew.

For Trinity, her markings guided the entire course of her life, and meant everything to her.

Death. Thats what they say Azrail represents. He just sees genetics, patterns and colours from a father he never met and a mother who died giving life to him.

If he were not a lion others might say he was the god of death himself, dark and hidden within the nights shadows, and with a mask of gold, hiding the horror beneath. Luckily (though luck might be a bit of a stretch) for Azrail though, the god of death is normally represented as a large crane, picking mortals away from the living world with a swift plunging beak and swallowing them whole. His form doesn't stop the whispers though, the warnings to cubs to stay far far away, or the fact that hardly anyone dares to turn their back on him, it is all Azrail can do to ignore it, and prove them all wrong. He tries to support and care for others no matter what his current pride thinks of him.

If only Azrail knew that the other lions weren't completely wrong. Beady bird eyes watched down, a beak curved in a parody of a smile as he watched his son. Form was nothing to gods, simply a convenience. Wings lifted, as wide as the sky and as they plunged down wings turned to smoke, swiftly flowing across the land. Death had work to do. Ain't no rest for the wicked.
