Clouds filled the sky, light and puffy. It was a wonderful day, the Spring air making the grass in the meadow sing and the river hum its bubbly tune, filling Smokepaw's ears with a lovely sound of natural harmony. Nothing was wrong with today, it was perfect. Bees were buzzing, collecting nectar from the wildflowers that speckled the plain, and prey was running wild. It was the perfect season.
At least, that's what Smokepaw thought until he saw a human and his kid, fishing at the river's edge. Humans were a common sight for RuinClan, living so close to a human village, but nobody really liked seeing them this close to the camp. Frustration and fear flared through Smokepaw's senses and he scooted closer, wanting to keep a close eye on the human and its kit incase they ventured in the direction of RuinClan's camp.
Smokepaw didn't realize how close he got, however, and was shocked when another human kit he didn't even see scooped him up, yelping in satisfaction. Terror filled Smokepaw and he lashed and thrived, trying to get free, but the girl held on fast, eventually holding his scruff and he lost control of his body, falling still, fear still making his heart race.
The boy and his father came rushing over, exclaiming in shock and fear, and the grown human yelled at the female kit. Tears welled in her eyes as she tugged Smokepaw close in a hug, loosening her grip on his scruff, and seeing his chance, he lashed out with teeth and claws. He snagged the soft flesh on her cheek, drawing flood, and she screamed in pain, dropping him hard. He was winded for a few minutes but the yelling of the man arose him and he got to his paws, racing away with blurry eyes, stumbling every few steps as he regained his breath.
The man stopped following once they neared the woods, but Smokepaw didn't want to risk leading him to the clan's camp, just in case they were still watching him from somewhere in the shadows. He went hunting near Saber's Peak, uneasiness still flooding his body at the experience he had just had.
