cat name: Hollykit
gender: male
age: 4 moons
clan: AsterClan
rank: Protostar

prompt:

600/600 wrote:"Mottlekit, slow down!"
Hollykit almost bumped into the cinnamon tabby kit, who hurried as if there were something on their tails; it was such a habit of the cinnamon tomcat, something that bothered Hollykit almost constantly. "You're going way too fast!"
"I am?" Mottlekit replied incredulously, slowing down immediately; but not without flicking his ear dismissively and continuing, "Not my fault you're so slow."
"Not my fault you're so fast!" Hollykit retorted, lashing his stubby tail. "It ain't me!"
"Is too," Mottlekit rolled his eyes and trotted along.
"Is not!"

Mottlekit opened his eyes after screwing them shut in indignation, only to see that they were far off their course, having been long-distracted from where they were meant to be, set off-course by their arguing. "...oh."
"Oh's right! How're we gonna get back, huh?" Hollykit snapped, glaring at the other kitten almost comically. "Tell me that!"
"Alright, alright, it'll be easy," Mottlekit dismissed, "If we just... go back from where we came, retrace our steps - like they say!"
Hollykit had a sneaking suspicion that what the other kit was saying wasn't as easy as he claimed.

"Well, we're lost."
"Tell me something I don't know," Hollykit retorted.
The two had been trying to come back from where they had came for a long while now; Hollykit had a feeling that they were even more lost at this point.
They heard rustling in the forest path behind them, and Hollykit's blood ran cold.

"Are you two lost?"
An apricot tomcat came out of the path; head somewhat tilted in wonder - Hollykit felt like he recognized the tom; he was their Star Tamer, wasn't he?
"Yarrowleaf?" the cinnamon mackerel tabby chirped, trotting up to the apricot-and-white cat, feeling somewhat more comforted. "...well, d'ya know how to get back home?"
The tomcat flicked his tail. "Of course I do. Why don't you two come with me?"

The three hurried along the forest path, territory becoming almost more and more familiar; Yarrowleaf seemed to know the territory almost incredibly well, which was unsurprising, of course. The apricot tabby kept careful to match the pace of the other two kits despite his own excessive energy.
And was he ever so sociable - asking questions, some that Hollykit thought was rather obvious, but they answered them anyways.
"Don't you know Iceshiver? Why would you ask so much about them?" Hollykit retorted once, hazel eyes narrowed in confusion. "We all know how mean they are."
"I'm just curious of how you think of them. That's all," Yarrowleaf simply replied, gaze focused on their eventual destination.

"This should be it. I have to head somewhere else, now," the apricot tomcat purred, before dipping his head at the two cinnamon tabby kits. "Goodbye, you two."
"Thank you!"

The two kits sneaked back into camp in an attempt to not get caught; feeling like they had successfully managed to do so, Mottlekit whispered, "We did it!"
"But we didn't get to the river," Hollykit sighed dramatically, sitting down in a huff. "We got lost, thanks to you..."
"We--" and he was stopped, looking behind Hollykit in confusion. "Hey, isn't that Yarrowleaf? Hey, Yarrowleaf!"

"- and, and, you came back so quickly! We thought you had somewhere else to go," Hollykit finished, tilting his head in confusion.
"...tell me. Did that cat have a blue eye?" Yarrowleaf's gaze was in deep, deep shock.
"Now that I think of it..." Hollykit trailed off. "Yeah. So it wasn't--"

"That was my brother. Oh, Judges... he has his scars for his 'reasons'..." he trailed off, suddenly growing more anxious.
"He's here - and you've told him everything."

a cricket's chirp is loud indeed

      cat name: cricketkit (cricketpaw, cricketsong)
      gender: tom
      age: 0.5 moons
      clan: elkclan
      rank: kit

      prompt: ( 475 w.c. )

Mother is so big. So warm. Her heartbeat - thud thud thud - the familiar backdrop to Cricketkit's whole life - echoes hale and hearty in his ear. The small red-and-white kit twists in his sleep and snuffles closer, eyes shut against the coming dawn.

      "Mother?"
Her sleepy sigh is answer enough. "Yes, Cricketkit?"
"Can I go out and play today?"
He can feel her pause. Deliberate. His small body vibrates in anticipation, at the thought of finally - finally being allowed out of the dark nursery den.
"I... suppose. You're bound to find out one way or another." He can hear the smile in her voice, the thread of worry; but both of these are overshadowed by the urge to be outside and to be outside now. He scampers to the mouth of the den, all tiredness long forgotten, and tumbles headfirst out into the sunlight.

      -

Camp is... a bit of a disappointment, in the end, after expecting the wild and frightening world from the wonderous tales Mother has told him. There are no eagles here, no bears or rushing rivers; the only figure from her stories to make an appearance are the giant paws of his clanmates. He recognizes the bone-fair hide of their leader, Palestar, sitting proudly atop the pile of rocks in the center of camp. Craning his neck to see her makes him dizzy.

Cricketkit wanders between his clanmates for hours upon hours, asking questions to any who deign to glance his way, getting underfoot and in the way of every cat (much to the chagrin of his mother.) As the sun climbs to its zenith he returns to the nursery den, so tired he can barely keep his eyes open.

There is a strange kit sitting next to Mother.
He pauses in the entryway, one paw raised comically in the air, the beginning stages of alarm written on his face. "Mommmm???"
His mother merely nudges the strange - stranger - kit forward. "Go on, dear. It's alright."

Cricketkit takes one look at the stranger, nose wrinkled, and decides he doesn't like her. Still, Mother has said it's important to be nice until someone isn't nice back, though, so he settles back on his haunches and sticks his nose in the air. "Who are you?"

"I'm your sister." The silver she-kit wriggles in excitement before pouncing on him, her full weight and tiny paws crushing him into the ground. Cricketkit splutters, indignant, at the rough treatment.
      "Sister?!"

      -

The story comes out in bits and pieces. How his sister had been very sick, upon her birth; how the medicine cats had worked to save her day and night. Cricketkit has half a mind not to believe the story, if it weren't Mother telling it; it sounds too fantastical even to a kit's ears.

      "She's really my sister, then?"
His - their - mother's sleepy sigh is answer enough. "Yes."

    gender: Male

clan: Kin of the Barren Tundra
    rank: Apprentice

prompt: Thrushpaw paced forward, his friend following close at his tail, a grin worn across her face.
"You sure that this is okay, I, I mean I don't want to-"
"Hush! Seriously Thrushpaw, it's okay," Kea giggled, jumping forward to meet his pace with a stride at his side. He nervously nodded in turn, leading on the adventure back into camp. His paws lapped against the damp stones around their paws, water dripping from their toes as they furthered their journey with the company of each other.

"Soo? How's clan life going for you?" Kea questioned, her ears lifted up with the same grin she wore before as she waited for Thrushpaw's response, eagerness written all throughout her tone of voice.
"Uh- Well, it's better than I expected it to be. Mother always warned me that these cats would be harsh but.. It seems alright right now." Thrushpaw forced a smile back at Kea, who nodded in turn back at him with the dip of her head.
"I wish I could come back, but-"
"I could ask West!" Thrushpaw interrupted Kea with his sudden outburst, drawing his ears backwards once he realised what he had done, "Ah, right, sorry for the sudden voice raise." He awkwardly chucked, earning a friendly shake of a head from Kea.
"No, no, it's okay. I wouldn't want to bother her with my issues. Besides, it's so much easier visiting now and again." She still wore her grin towards him.

Pushing through the leaves and brambles around camp, Thrushpaw flicked his tail for Kea to follow him. The clearing presented a large group of cats, each communicating with each other or sharing their prey with each other. A great sense of community. Thrushpaw turned to Kea, mimicking the same grin she had been wearing the entire time. "See! It's like a big family here, mother had been wrong about this place." He purred at her in amusement as she stood stunned, watching the clan around her with pure interest. "This is... amazing." Her last word came out with more of a laugh of disbelief, as if she really was taken back.

From the other corner of his eye Thrushpaw noticed the rapid approaching of his friend, Wigeonpaw, who scooted over on the seat of his paws. Thrushpaw spun around and turned towards Kea, nodding in the direction of Wigeonpaw, "Kea, this is Wigeonpaw, he's one of my closest--"
"Thrushpaw?" Wigeonpaw called from behind him, causing the tom cat to turn back around with his own grin.
"Wigeonpaw, I was just telling her about y---"

    Wigeonpaw blinked, staring beside Thrushpaw.

    "What, the thin air?"

Russetkit looked up from his nest, the light from the entrance of the den had woken him from his nap. He noticed that the nest he was in was empty. He wondered where his mother and sister had gone, maybe they had left him to go play. He stood up and peaked outside only to find that no one was out. He stumbled out trying to find them, but everyone was gone. Russetkit began to wander around, where was everyone?

"Hello?" Russetkit called out.

Russetkit looked up at the steep slope that lead to the rest of the clan camp. He began the long walk up to find that the camp was still empty.

Russetkit was starting to get scared. " This isn't funny guys."

He began to make his way out of the camp, scared. Suddenly an alligator walked into the middle of his path. Russetkit let out a scream, alerting the creature of his presence. The alligator turned towards him opening it's mouth. Russetkit closed his eyes, hoping this would be over soon.

When Russetkit opened his eyes he was back in his nest.

"Are you okay?" His sister asked.

"Yeah. I just had a nightmare." Russetkit responded.

The two got up together and walked out of their nest, Russetkit was relieved that it was just a dream. They couldn't wait to start playing. When they left the den they found that none of their clanmates were out, everyone seemed to be gone.

"Oh no." Russetkit spoke, scared.

username: wolfpack12
cat name: Hazel, Hazelpaw, Hazelleaf
gender: She-cat
age: 7 moons
clan: Crescentclan
rank: Apprentice

prompt:

She was cold.

Cold, hungry and incredibly tired.

And yet she kept going, no matter how much her mind and body were telling her otherwise.

" Agatha!", she cried out. Hoping that the she-cat who had been her carer would reply. Only to feel that hope slowly slip away when the only response she got was from the howling wind around her. They wouldn't abandon her, would they? Surely not in a snowstorm like this. Right?

Feeling desperation begin to claw at her heart, the kit continued to struggle her way through the snow. Stopping every once in a while to brace herself against the merciless wind and keep her footing.

Desperation quickly turned into fear as her limbs began to grow more sluggish and heavy with every step she took. Her eyes gazing helplessly at the curtain of white in front of her. Silently praying that Agatha or one of the others would appear and rescue her.

But no one came.

Any paw prints that were previously left by the group had been wiped clean by a fresh blanket of snow. Preventing the kit from ever being able to follow them.

A sudden gust of wind and snow knocked into the kit. Sending her staggering into an ice cold sea of white. Only this time, she didn't have the strength or energy to get back up. Icy tears began to form in the corners of her eyes, as she gazed at her howling surroundings.

She had been abandoned.

Just when all hope was lost, a shadowy silhouette appeared in the distance.

She couldn't make out the newcomers appearance, but they definitely resembled the shape of a cat. A sudden spark of hope filled her chest as she lifted her head up. Did they realise she was missing and came looking for her?

" Over here! It's me, Hazel! I'm over here!", she called out. In her sudden moment of joy, she tried to get up. Only to find that her limbs were frozen solid, preventing her from moving." Please, I'm over here!", she added. Fearing that her possible saviour might not be able to hear her over the raging storm. Before finally giving in to the strengthening need to sleep.

---------------------------------

When she finally woke up again, she found herself in an unfamiliar den. Surrounded by unfamiliar smells.

Just when she was about to panic, a soft snoring noise rose from her left. Causing the kit to glance over in the sound's direction. Only to find herself staring at an unfamiliar long haired tom who was fast asleep next to her. Most likely there to keep her warm.

Another sound came from the den's entrance. Prompting the kit to quickly look in it's direction, and watch as three other cats entered through it. The two in front were chatting to one another, but the one at the back was what had caught Hazel's attention.

".....A light brown and white she-cat with brown spots and green eyes....."

An aching sense of familiarity flowed through the kit as she recalled Agatha's words. The feeling only grew when she heard one of the two in front call the she-cat by her name.

'Viperfang'.

For once, Hazel was at a loss on what to do. Surely, it couldn't be her. Could it?

As if sensing her very thoughts, the she-cat turned to look at her. Only to suddenly freeze as her green eyes widened in both shock and disbelief.

Encouraged by her reaction, Hazel took a few shaky steps towards the she-cat. Before uttering out a single word with hopeful uncertainty.

" Mum?"
