taka’s pride is harmonious, there is a balance between good and evil, and between spiritual beings and mortal ones. although having evil in the world doesn’t seem like something that could be good, it is a necessary thing for stability within this world. without evil, everything would be perfect, but it is imperfectness that gives mortals the ultimate power over their fate and makes spiritual beings, such as taka, so important. he, at first, was a holy angel in malaika, who was later chosen by the great god of amani to become king, however, during his role as a holy angel, his job would have been useless without evil spirits attempting to corrupt mortals. it is the job of a holy angel to protect innocent mortals against evil, and so without evil to fight against, angels don’t have a purpose. I've always enjoyed history and for some time I really wanted to make some characters inspired by the Native Americans. They are such a diverse and vastly interesting people.

It wasn't long before I created my pride that my mom and I watched this documentary series on Netflix about Native American history and culture. That's when I had learned that, sometime in the 12th century, I believe (don't quote me on this, it's been a while, lol) the Spanish people at that time were searching Northern America for gold and silver and all sorts of other things. They found these Native peoples and... well, didn't treat them very well. They often times desecrated their cities and little villages, and took them away and used them as slaves.

A particular instance that stood out to me was this story of a Spanish man who went out to search for these fabled 'seven cities of gold'. Instead of finding those golden cities, however, he just kept finding Native American tribes. They wished to go through such territories but they were often denied, so they just went through by force instead. Which wasn't too great because, half the time, they were hurting or injuring people and their possessions along the way. He did end up going to the place where he had heard of these 'cities of gold' but he was sourly rewarded with adobe villages instead.

So when I heard that story I thought, 'hey, that could work for something I could create... just don't know what.' Then I took notice of Valley of Kings when it had first started. I was immediately drawn to the, at that time, small little adopt community. I requested a founder and decided to use that whole Native American idea as a base for the pride. It's grown pretty well since, at least I'd like to say.

So the 'silverpelts' within the pride are just Spaniards, or Spanish conquistadors, looking for those seven cities of gold. Along the way they took notice of these strange lions and thought 'hey, they'd make some good money', since that seemed to be the Spaniards driving force at that time (The love of money is the root of all evil, folks). So in the process of scattering the pride and forcing them from their territory, I'd imagine they took some back home as trophies, both dead and alive.

I also liked the idea of everyone just being lost and being found again. It definitely gives you a nice basis to write about concerning backstory, and gives a big piece of history once I decide the whole pride's back together.

So I suppose my pride's a bit different than most. I've noticed a lot of folks tend to go for more fantasy or their own stories, but I could be wrong. I just went really close off of actual history, haha. History's a nice place to get ideas and learn a bit more. That's what it's there for. (497 wc)
