Usiku pretty much lives for the night time. He was even named after it. He adores looking at the stars, like most of the rest of his pride, but he takes it to a whole other level. He's always awake during the night, and his vision is starting to loose color, but he doesn't notice, because he's never awake to see it. He's fascinated by the stars, and is trying to memorize all 88 of the constellations. He's got around 20 down so far, but he's working on it. On his way to the Ushirikiano Pride, he found a star map on the ground, and has devoted his life to studying it. He also loves the little rainbowy circles that surround the moon occasionally. He's often accompanied by a couple fireflies that he's befriended.

Why Nighttime? Shantzi loves nighttime because it's when all the stars are out. Ever since he was a cub he's been fascinated by the 'little white dots in the sky'. Quite often, he sneaks out of camp and down to the lake, where the stars are reflected in the water. It looks like the whole galaxy is right beneath his paws. Shantzi can stay there for hours and not get bored of studying the stars.

Why Nighttime?

Rithback's favorite thing about nighttime is the shadows. The dens nestled among the valley's strand of covering Umbrella Thorn, their branches reaching into the light of the moon as if begging it to pull them from the earth and into the sky. Some may fear the looming coils as the dark reflections of the leaves twist upon the ground in madness created by the very light their alter seeks; but Rithback finds it comforting. As if the world itself might be trying to defend him, wrapping protectively around his paws and legs as he basks in the light of the stars far above him and watches the curling vines that nestle over his fur. Perhaps he can't feel them, but he likes to imagine they encourage him in silence and their presence to his sight is enough.

He feels safe, at night.

Why Nighttime?

Kijani loves the night because it transforms the harsh desert into something else. Under the pale light of the watchful moon, the desert is not a place of suffocating heat and burning light. Instead, Kijani's home is soft, cool. The sand, once so blistering and cruel, and cool and soft under his paw. There is a sort of calmness, a tenderness about the night Kijani has difficulty finding anywhere else. From the smiling face of the moon and its glittering children, to the pale blues and purples that the night spills unto the sand, there is a certain otherworldliness about the darkest hours that the sand-colored lion has grown to love.
