Prompt: Esuom couldn't believe it. Tomorrow was Halloween, and she hadn't bought any candy yet! How did time fly so fast? She was actually hanging out with her friends when they reminded her. Her friend Oliver was the one who mentioned it to her. "I can't believe tomorrow's Halloween!" he had said. "Can't wait to have all those trick-or-treaters over!"
"What?" she had responded. "It's not Halloween tomorrow."
"Uh, yeah it is. Go look on the calendar," he said.
She nervously walked into his kitchen and looked at the calendar. Today was Wednesday, and yep, tomorrow was Halloween. Esuom's mouth dropped open. "I need to go," she said, shocked. She sprinted out of the house and ran to the nearest store, called The Glittering Market.
Esuom walked towards the candy aisle. After walking through that aisle a few times, she found no candy at all. "Excuse me," she asked a worker that happened to be nearby. "Isn't this the candy aisle?"
The worker simply said, "We sold out." He walked away to some other side of the store.
Esuom was grumpy now. The worker hadn't helped at all! Now what was she going to buy? Esuom walked into another Halloween aisle. Something caught her eyes. A bag full of plastic rings with spiders on them! They were on sale, and she always liked getting rings like these and putting one on each finger when she was younger. A perfect substitute for candy. Just in case, she bought three bags, one with spider rings, one with ghost rings, and one with zombie rings. Satisfied, she went home and got ready for the trick-or-treaters that were coming tomorrow. (275 words)

No more candy? Hareton absolutely dreaded to think about a Halloween where there was no candy. But it might be helpful to think about a backup plan in case that unlikely event were ever to happen in his lifetime. The goo dog sat down, his goo tail gently squishing against the floor in which he sat upon. He thought long and hard about the question. He could bake, but his goo would probably get into the stuff he baked and make it all gross. He didn't want to risk anything of the sort when it came to that. But he knew that sometimes, instead of candy, people would give out fun little objects to the trick-or-treaters. Most trick-or-treaters were younger, therefore he would need an object that would appeal more to them. But what kind of objects were trendy in this time? It was difficult to think about, until he realized: slime.

Hareton was made of goo, and he definitely wasn't going to stop producing goo anytime soon. But he realized that all of the excess goo could go to giving slime to the children to have to play with back at home. Goo was trendy and was often seen on those "satisfying" videos found posted all over the internet. It was the perfect thing to give to the trick-or-treaters! Especially since Hareton knew for a fact that his goo was completely harmless. All he would need to do is find some containers that would fit his plan perfectly.

Each trick-or-treater that came to his house would get a container with the goo sealed inside. And from there, they could be on their way! The idea of giving the trick-or-treaters goo to play with like slime excited Hareton. He would have to prepare each year just inc case this epidemic of having no candy actually were to come true. But now, at least he did have a plan. So now he could deal with it accordingly and have something that many of his visitors would enjoy.

Diaval couldn't believe it. He had on his brand new Devil costume, he bought it four months in advance just for this day, and yet, first house on the street and they were trying to put buffalo wings in his back. 'Your joking- she's joking? I can't believe my eyes..' The scruffy canine looked from the hot box of chicken and back up at the embarrassed coyote. "I-I'm sorry, but- the stores were all out of candy! They weren't going to be in stock until next week." she looked desperate, her amber eyes pleading at the young canines in front of her not to be mad. Diaval sighed, but as the fresh smell of honey and barbecue seasoning wafted up and filled his lungs, his stomach protested his dismay with a hungry growl. Diaval grinned shyly and thanked her, "No, no! This is fine, you did your best, and that's fine." he moved aside so the next pup could get their box, and gazed down at the delicious box he held. He quickly scampered down the steps and to the next house, suddenly excited about what was to meet him. A gruff looking wolf was sitting in the doorway, watching Diaval approach with fierce red eyes. "H-hello.. Are you out of candy too?" he stammered, intimidated by the large dog."Yeah, but I have these.. Only place that was open." he grunted, plopping another hot box in Diaval's back pack. (Yes, Diaval always carries a backpack on Halloween, totes are too small) "Thank you! Happy Halloween" the wolf grinned as the pup turned and padded back down the path to the main road. He went on like this for some time, collecting a few more boxes until he couldn't hold any more. He trudged home, quite tired and hungry, eager to open up his boxes to see what was inside. As he settled down in his living room, he took out all 5 boxes and set them in a neat row. He opened one by one, his mouth watering as they lay there, covered in sweet tangy sauce, calling his name. He picked up one of the wings and tore off a chunk, his eyes rolling back in his head. "Best. Halloween. Ever." a faint voice called his name and he blinked, whirling around. He was in a tree-house with his best friend Marshall, who was glaring at him, rather annoyed, "Earth to Diaval! Jeez, man. What were you drooling about?" Diaval laughed and just said, "What it would be like if there was no candy on Halloween." his friend shuddered, "C'mon Lasair! Don't give me nightmares!" they fell into a fit of laughter as they both grabbed a candy from their stash. "Nah man, it would actually be really cool!" the husky grimaced, narrowing his green eyes, "Are you nuts? You'd do anything for you candy." the young canine rolled his eyes, "No, here me out! What if they handed out chicken wings? Like, from that place down by Maggie's?" His friend stared at him, but his stomach growled, giving him away. "Aha! You like the idea!" Diaval smirked triumphantly and munched on some Skittles while Marshall sulked and resumed his video game.
