“...And so, if you’re not careful...” The older cub spoke softly, trying to hide his smirk as the other, younger cubs stared, wide-eyed at him, hanging on every single syllable. “And you stare for too long at the sun, your eyes will become like Izar’s!” Squeals and laughter erupted from the gathering of cubs, delighting in the storytelling of the older cub.

Izar’s eyes, despite the tales of the pride’s youth, do not glow from overexposure to sunlight. It is, in fact, her connection to the sky that causes this eerie glow. A Sky Watcher’s role is to study the skies, to read the stars and see what may come in the pride’s future. One important factor in figuring out the future lies within the past, specifically, the ancestors of the pride. It is said that the ancestors keep watch over the pride through the Sky Watcher’s eyes, watching important moments in the pride’s history or checking in on their loved ones. Of course, ancestors do not watch at all times, or may have other prides in their minds, so the Sky Watcher’s eyes remain alight at all times so the ancestors can find them when they need to.

There was no one to help her. She had been punished for disobeying the King and Queen. And she paid the price in the form of her eyes; they were slashed and her face marred. And, while still in so much pain, she was tossed out of their pride lands, forced to crawl around desperately, terrified, most certain that she would die, without her sight.

After struggling and struggling, she finally gave up, collapsing while tears welled up and poured over, the salt stinging her open wounds, but she unable to help it. Burying her hurt face in her paws, she sobbed, her whole body trembling and curling in on itself.

When Six, the God of Fortune, followed the scent of blood and tears during his venture out and came across her in such a state, his heart ached and he pitied her for what horrible abuse she had been forced to endure. "I will grant you new eyes," he had told her. And with his powers, he meticulously, thoughtfully weaved together threads of gold and granted her miraculously glowing, golden eyes.

“It is my time, Nuru. The sickness has-” Her mother gasped for air. She looked into her mother’s glowing eyes. Gazed worryingly at the woman who had raised her. Taught her everything. “The sickness is taking me. You must fulfill your calling.”
“I’m not ready. I need more training!”
“There’s no time, sweet child. The fate... of the pride... is...” With her voice fading and her breath slowing, Nuru cried. As her mother took her last breath, a sharp pain shot behind her eyes. Hot tears streamed and she screamed, her vision growing a blinding white. The transformation was painful, but only for a moment. She shut her eyes tightly, the weight of her calling weighing heavily on her small shoulders.
“I’ll do you proud, mother,” she whispered haltingly. Nuru rested her head gently against her mother’s then pulled back. When she opened her eyes, they glowed. “I will be the seer the pride needs me to be.”

Era closed her eyes tightly and pushed herself further back into the small crevice she had hidden herself inside. She could hear the voices of the lions outside. She knew that these lions would attack her. She was different after all. It's not normal for someone to have eyes like hers. It wasn't normal for a lioness to wander aimlessly like a ghost. An ill omen. She couldn't help that she was born this way. That she had been marked as a cursed soul for having these eyes. She never chose this but then again she never had a choice. Slowly she turned her head towards the males that hovered outside of her hiding place and opened her eyes, revealing their glow to them hoping they would spook enough for her to escape.

There was a few moments silence... "Move Cy." The larger male shoved his friend away and met the gaze of the lioness. His voice was gentle, "Are you hurt? Do you need help?" He seemed to not even notice the 'cursed' eyes .
