How does this lion handle rejection?: "As you know, we are gathered here today in order to announce my heir. It is with my greatest pleasure to announce that... Abanoub will eventually take my role as king."Hearing those words made it official. Jabari had been rejected, betrayed.
As a young cub, before he could even really remember, he'd lost his own family, they having honorably fought and gave their lives to protect the pride. But, in the aftermath, was taken in by the Queen and King due to his parents' merits and because the Queen had been unable to birth any cubs, herself. He was raised lovingly at first, and they filled his head with promises that he was their most precious son, that no one could take his place in their hearts, and that he would, one day, become king, in his adoptive father's place.
That all changed when his adoptive mother
finally gave birth to his younger brother, Abanoub. From that moment on, he was slowly treated more and more of an outcast of the family, more like someone to order around, rather than a son or brother. And he obeyed their orders for so long, in an attempt to please them, even though, deep down, he knew it would not do any good.
Those words, though, spoken by the King, was the final betrayal. He could take it no longer. Though, Jabari did not lash out angrily. Instead, he marched right up the King and Queen and renounced his title, his association with them. Renounced their pride. With a brave face and a strong heart, he broke his connections with the only family he had ever really known, ever remembered.
As he left their pride lands, his head was held high but, once out of their sight, he could not stop his tears from falling, nor the prevent the aching in his heart. He didn't even want to be king. He just wanted to be loved, to be treated as their son again, and for them to at least be honest with him.

On the outside, in the presence of others, Jabari is able to put on a brave face when met with rejection and even stand up for himself, as necessary. However, the truth of the matter is that he takes the rejection very hard, especially if it was something that was important to him. He just hides his tears and broken heart from the rest of the world, keeping them behind closed doors, and only letting them out when he's alone.
But, even though he may cry, he is still brave, and urges himself to move forward once he's let out his despair.
