His right to live.
Mikael had lived a normal life. He owned a small bakery, found love, had children, and, eventually, died.
Over a century later, a necromancer brought him back in an attempt to take over the now massive kingdom.
The war was brutal, and Mikael was used as a sort of messenger for the necromancer, speaking for him so he wouldn't risk being killed by the villagers. After all, the citizens feared the undead much more than any mortal mage. However, Mikael never truly believed in his master's cause. The only thing keeping him under the necromancer's control was the fear of dying once again, as the afterlife wasn't so pleasant for the kalon.
This spanned three harsh years, with both forces stuck in a stalemate with neither making any progress in defeating the other's soldiers. However, Mikael finally decided he'd had enough. He fought his fear of a painful second death at the hands of his master and defected, telling the king of the undead army's plans, resulting in the victory of the living.
The king attempted to give Mikael immunity for his actions, but his subjects were much less forgiving. They staged a revolt, overthrowing the king and placing a new ruler in his place that inacted a law making necromancy, and being undead by association, punishable by death.
Now, Mikael lives in hiding, taking advantage of whatever coves, cliffs, and abandoned shacks he comes across in order to keep the townsfolk off of his trail. He has never resorted to violence, but he knows in his heart that if it came down to it, he would fight for his life.
And with his attempts at diplomacy failing, he's afraid that this may have to end in bloodshed.

I would say, it's more of a WHO I'm fighting for than a what. Of course, it's not if you'd know. No one knows, really. The person or I guess "thing," in anyone else's eyes that I'm fighting for exists solely for me and me alone, for now. He guides me. I guide him. It's a mutual relationship, of course. Who wouldn't give the world for their one and only Savior? No one really believes me when I talk about my big man in the sky, but he's there. I know he is. He has to be, right? I mean, all this fighting to get his word out would be useless, correct? I-I am fighting for the right cause.... am I? What else would I have put my life into? What else would I have spen-

what are they fighting for?: They're fighting for their state of mind. They want to be happy again, he wants to be able to smile truthfully. Fighting for something like this takes a lot and he knows that, but he has more than just him. He also has the courage to know that everything will eventually work out for him. The hard times are golden cause they lead to better days. He's gonna be alright, cause he's fighting to be free from himself.

Oh, what one would give to be free. It would be wonderful to no longer bear the burden of inherited duties on their backs; to be able to script life as they wish to see it, not how the hand that guides them chooses to draw the strokes. That freedom is a dream for many.

Not all terms are written in goodwill. Quite a few, in fact, contract the signer's life into a cage of sorts. They are left to toil in shackles they are not permitted to relinquish as without them they are left deprived of substance to live-- in society it may be money, in other settings for this play other resources to vy after often substitute. This dilemma plagues every era and place, in which living is to struggle for another being rather than to live.

Of course, this collar does not choke all who wear it. At times such bonds are too valuable to break, or even a blessing for both parties. A neckpiece is only dangerous if one uses it to strangle another, at other times it's quite decorative to wear a shimmering thread about your throat. There isn't anything inherently evil in the act of co-operation. This much is well known and well seen. Symbiosis does come in many flavors.

Regardless of why, being strung out on the ties between parties is all too common. While he is contracted to do so, Asterix is sent out to sort the disagreements. It is his task to address and deescalate rising tensions between parties, and to stand by and mediate, most optimistically to level the playing field or in drastic cases find a peaceful end to an agreement for the betterment of all involved. The work is not easy; recently it's become common for these situations go sour, and no progress is made, and he receives little for his failed attempts to help. Aggravating cases over the years have worn the silver off his tongue and weighed down a once complacent smile, and with the latest series of failures and terse talks he's found the bond that once uplifted him now weighs heavy.

How exhausting. Were he able to call to hire his past self, oh, what he would give to do so. Each meeting this week ended poorly, and he couldn't see himself getting any substantial payment if this wasn't turned around fast. At the very least... Soon it would be the end of this term, yes? Soon this agreement would be over. It's been quite a long year, and this office was full of fools who seemed dead set on sending him out on hopeless agreements. With so many assignments that look doomed from the start, it felt almost as if they wanted to chase him off. It couldn't come soon enough, he was getting tired of fending for his livelihood.

From the very beginning, Leuer hesitated to call herself a fighter. Despite the trials that make up her life leaving their mark on her mind, shaping her slowly emerging personality, she never felt as if she could claim the title without getting into a physical alteration. Sure, she had learnt to be careful with whom she associated with because of her past, and she was slowly learning to argue back instead of taking harsh criticism laying down, but could one truly be a fighter when all her life was seemingly minor inconviences compared to what others had experienced? Surely, there were kalons more worthy of taking that title on than me, is what she told herself when she was praised for being strong.
