"Another elderly racer, the number of them was countless at this point. This particular animal was located on what the rescuers were calling 'death row'. It was a series of cages located along the very back wall of the barn, wire pressed right against splintered wood planks that were just barely keeping the building up. The scars were thick, years upon years of rubbing equipment causing them to be sore and blistered at the lightest touch. It seemed as though the Skepluvi had a chronic respiratory infection left untreated, leaving them with horrid lung scarring. This will require daily medication to keep the respiratory issues under control and an allergy sensitive indoor environment, this means nothing like hay to line their stalls with, sand will be a much better option! Our vet team will also make a specialized muzzle to keep them comfortable when tacked. In order to help the scarring heal, a topical medication will need to be used to soothe them."
