perfect summer day;;
Wisteria loved every day of summer, no matter the weather or the place. Honestly, if there was anything she believed in wholeheartedly, it was that there was something beautiful in each day. Even the darkest ones had something worth living for; even if it was only that another day was guaranteed to come.
But she had to admit, if only to herself, that she preferred a calmer day. Not too hot nor too cold, lightly cloudy but only enough for some shade during the hottest parts of the day. Nothing drastic would happen, there’d be no itinerary to follow, just herself and the day to do with as she pleased.
She’d wake up early and go watch the sunrise, enthralled by the colors that fill the sky. Reds, purples, pinks, and more, rich and vibrant in a way that can never be captured perfectly, not even in a photograph.
Maybe later she’d have friends or family with her, or maybe she’d be alone then too. Perhaps both, at different points. When they were together they’d talk, not just about the important stuff but the trivial things they hardly thought about in the moment. Everything really; not just those that make or break them, but those that shape them slowly, like the ocean against a cliff side.
As they chatted they’d explore wherever they happen to be at the time; home town or foreign there’s always something new to find. She’d smile her way through antique stores, laugh around the park at a joke none of them heard but understood all the same. Maybe if they were close enough, they’d head to the beach, and mess around in the sand for awhile.
Then later, when she was alone, she’d head back to the beach now barren and quiet. She’d get close to the water but settle a few feet out of range, and wait, slipping her socks and shoes off and setting them aside. Eventually she’d watch as the sun set over the horizon, only leaving when the water began to cover her feet.
Just as the run rose with color, it set in a blaze of glory. It felt so similar yet so different from the sun rising, somber and reflective where it’s counterpart was hopeful and inspiring. In the the end, she just couldn’t help but love both. They were her reminder, what made life worth living for. After all, how could she possibly believe there was nothing left for her when there would always be a sunrise and sunset out there waiting?
