Location: Marsuses Cave, the Family Den.
Time of Day: Dawn.

"So tell me, sis, what is it you really want?"

Azalea's eye's bore into the soul of her sister. Her head hung high, her feet stood strong, and her body radiated confidence.

With strength, Azalea gave her answer, "You of all people should know what I want, Dahlia."

Dahlia's ears perked up with interest. Yes, deep down, Dahlia knew her sister wanted.
Freedom.
She wanted freedom.

Azalea's ocean eyes kept locked on her sister as she sat in silence, waiting to hear how her comment was taken.

With a deep sigh, Dahlia spoke in a serious tone, "You are free to leave. You always have been, sis. Go. Take flight. You of all Kalons should know that I want you to spread your wings."

On that note, Azalea's body started to violently shake. Anxiety pumped through her, but also excitement. Azalea started to bolt out of the cave. The two siblings took one last look at each other. With a smile, Azalea jumped from the mouth of the cave to the platform under. A faint "I love you" sounded from the cave as Azalea gently worked her way from cliff to cliff.

Location: The Plains.
Time of Day: Afternoon.
Days Since Leaving the Cave: 3

The journey to the grassland near Marsuses Cave did not take long. Azalea's journey took two days, but usually, when she traveled with her family, the trip took less than 24 hours. The curious Azalea had made a few stops along the way, for she had no one to stop her. This new-found freedom of hers was a gift. A blessing, as Dahlia would have put it, but Dahlia was not here. The thought of her missing sister hit hard. The three days of Dahlia's absence were starting to take a toll on the poor blue Kalon. A cloud of grief followed Azalea as she looked for a spot to rest.

A fresh, dewy spot of grass was where Azalea had decided to spend the night. A singular tree was merely a few feet away, offering protection if needed. As dusk overcame the land, the lonely blue kalon closed her eyes and drifted off.

Azalea's eyes opened. The land she saw was barren. Different hues of grey blanketed the once youthful green grass and the tree she was next to had shrunk to a measly sapling.

In the distance was a Kalon. This Kalon had no color and it's face was void of expression.

Dahlia. The Kalon was Dahlia. The flowers on her back clearly marked the creature as her sister.

And then the Kalon began to float away. At first, the rising was slow, but soon Dahlia's grey body became a blur in the sky.

"DAHLIA! PLEASE COME BACK! STO-"

When Azalea awoke from her bad dream, the sky was still black. That was the second nightmare Azalea had in the past three days. Everything was dark and Azalea was lonely. A high-pitched "hick" sounded from the poor Kalon and her ocean eyes filled with salty tears. She cried herself back to sleep.

Location: The Plains.
Time of Day: Early Morning
Days Since Leaving the Cave: 4

*skuffle skuffle*

A Kalon buried it's nose into Azalea, attempting to wake her.

At first, Azalea tried to swat the other Kalon away, not wanting her swollen eyes to be seen.

"Hey sis, it's me" spoke the Kalon towering above Azalea.

At the sound of her sister's voice, Azalea quickly lifted her head. The joy in seeing her sister lead Azalea to jump onto Dahlia and pull her into a tight embrace. Tears once again streamed down Azalea's face, but this time, they were tears of joy. She no longer worried about her swollen eyes being seen, for this Kalon was no stranger.

"Wh-What are you doing here?!" Azalea stammered out.

Dahlia replied with a smile, "I'm here to be free, with my sister. "

The bright sky calls for me. The light is so warm but I can never touch it. It's too blinding.
I already sunk too deep into the sea of darkness.
    I don’t have family. I don’t have friends. I’m always alone...

The warm spring breeze courses through the air as my basket was placed in front of the church. There I sat with nothing more than a blanket and a note begging for them to take care of me knowing that this is where others have abandoned their children. The elderly priest at the time kindly took us in and tended to our needs. He taught us no matter how difficult we were. When we were upset or sad, he would console us. He would tell us stories at bedtime and cook us delicious meals.

But everything comes to an end.

It all came tumbling down when the priest passed. Our new caretaker was an angry man. Even the smallest thing would ignite him and what did he do with his anger? He would lash it out on us. Slowly the older kids found jobs elsewhere and moved away. I too craved that freedom from this cage but I was too young. Or so I thought…

At the age of eleven, I found my first job.

The screeches echoed through the dark halls with the stench of rubbing alcohol embedded in the pristine walls. Standing in front of the out of place wooden door, I read it’s shiny golden plaque out loud, “office.” I thought to myself, “I guess this is the place,” and knocked on the door. The reply was immediate and I pushed the door open, letting myself in while the light shine into the dark bleak halls. Sitting behind the desk in front of me was a so called “doctor” with her blond hair twisted into a bun. While I took a seat in front of her, I squint to barely see the name card on the desk but I was pretty sure it just said “Boss”. She began to speak, “Hello, I was expecting you…” She quickly paused and pondered a bit but just as quickly gave up and continued deflated, “uh… sorry I forgot your name! Ah ha ha, whoops!” I sat there dumbfounded, thinking to myself “Is she okay?” I took a deep breath and replied, “My name is Ame ma’m.” Her eyes lit up and she suddenly jumped up from her chair, which almost made me fall off my chair. “What a change in energy…” A giant smile is now plastered on her face as she begins again but much more energetically, “Ah yes I remember now! I want the flowers that grow on your body!” She moved into my personal space to examine the flowers closely as I tried to squirm further away while seated. “I heard about your undesirable living conditions. If you sign this contact, you can live here and together develop those blossoms more,” she hands over a contract to me while still concentrating on the flowers, “Read it over so you know what you need to do.” I nodded though I doubt she noticed and began reading the papers. Soon after, to my relief, she finally stops examining my flowers and sat back down behind her desk. I quickly signed the contract and slid it across the desk to her. “Wonderful! You may call me Boss or Hime. Welcome to our clinic and… welcome to our family!” she says as she files away the contract, “See you again soon Ame.” I let myself out the office and headed over to the bus stop to head home to the orphanage. “I’m finally free...”

So now I work at one shady clinic located in the grim downtown area.

The church bell rings, vibrating through the stone building's cold walls. The ring echoed through my skull as I slowly brush out my hair. Beside me sat everything I ever had the pleasure of owning all fitting into two bags. I placed my brush into my backpack and zipped it up. Loud stomping could be heard coming up the stairs to my dismay. As I expected, the storming footsteps stops in front of my door. He shouted as he pounds on the door, “HEY! YOU WORTHLESS WORM OPEN YOUR DOOR!” I ignore him and this continues for around five minutes. His disgruntled angry grumbles could be heard moving away from my door, probably towards to his next victim. I quickly put on my backpack and slung my duffel bag on my shoulders. I placed my letter to the people of the church on my desk as I quickly unbolted the door and ran out. As I move my way toward the front of the church, I could hear angry screaming from our caretaker. “I feel sorry for whoever he is screaming at…” I ran past the front door and onto the dirt path where one of the sisters waited for me. It felt weird to ignore one of the only sisters that cared for us so I greeted her, “Ah Sister! Hello.” She looked at me with a warm smile and patted my head, “Heading out so fast Ame?” I could see her brow furrow and her eyes glisten. I give her a regretful smile, “Sorry sister.. I’m leaving for good now.” Tears started to well up in her eyes as we wave our final goodbye as I set off to my new home.

“I’ll try to visit sister but I’m not sure I will want to.”

The walls feels warm and the dim lights feel welcoming. In front of me leading the way in silence was one of my seniors. I wondered if he just liked it quiet or is he awkward like me. We arrived at a brightly lit hall before I realized it. We stopped in front of a door near the end of the hall, “Well this will be your room. You will be sharing it with one other.” I nodded in response and pushed the door open. The smell of peaches and mint enveloped the air around me immediately. “Not a bad scent I guess?” I walk into the room and sitting there was two others. The girl with the deep blue hair notices me first and points me out to the other, “Hey I think that’s our new roommate.” With their attention on me, I introduced myself, “Hello. My name is Ame. I guess I’ll be living with you guys from now on.” The dark blue hair girl smiled and waved, “Hey, nice to meet you. My name is Alice!” She then gestures to the other roommate and continues, “This is Honey. He’s shy so he doesn’t really like to talk much with someone new around.” I examine the room some more. There were two sets of bunk beds and a desk for each spot. Alice must have noticed and she quickly informed me, “Ah Hime said we’re going to get another roommate soon!” I nodded in reply. “I guess I can pick between the two spot left. Top or bottom bunk?” In the end I picked the top bunk since it was something I couldn’t experience at the orphanage.

“Maybe I’ll finally make friends here…” I thought to myself as I unpacked my two bags.

Beep! Beep! Beep! My eyelids felt heavy as I tried to pry them open. With my lids lifted a sliver, nothing but darkness could be seen. “I want to sleep more…” As I slowly drift back into my slumber, the sound of our door slamming open scared me fully awake. A familiar voice echoes from the hall into our room, “Children!! Time to wake up! I made breakfast this time. Teehee!” My eyes slowly adjust as the only light was from the open door, “Hmm that silhouette.. I seen it somewhere before…” I could hear rustling to my left. “I guess it woke them up too. Ah... wait that’s normal..” I could hear grumbling from Honey’s bed as Hime repeated what she just shouted like a broken record. Alice on her last straw shouted back, “AHH I want to sleep more! And, your cookings sucks. Nobody wants to eat it!” I could hear a sharp gasp from Hime. “Uh oh…” I see Hime’s shadow quiver and she suddenly breaks into tears, “Ahh Alice why are you so mean to me! I worked so hard to make breakfast!” Her wailing which was louder than her shouting radiates around the rooms. “Ah this is an interesting way to start the morning I guess…” I slowly made my way down the bunk bed now that my eyes are fully adjusted and headed towards the bathroom while ignoring Hime. By the time we all finished our morning routines, Hime had calmed down though she's still a little upset that I ignored her. Alice and I mumbled an apology and we headed out to the dining area for food. What awaited us on the plates looked like charcoal. I whispered to Alice as we sat down at the table, "Is this even edible?" Both Honey and Alice gave me an apologetic look. I sighed and began the challenge that is eating Hime's cooking.

“Note to self: Hime can not cook. DO NOT EAT IF YOU WANT TO LIVE.”

The rest of the day was uneventful thankfully. I had a buttload of testing done and that was about it. I headed back to my room as the day hits 4pm. I was unusually tired for how much I did. “I bet you it was that deadly breakfast today…” I sluggishly pushed open the door to be greeted by my two roommates. “Welcome back Ame! How was your day?” Alice chirped while Honey waved without a peep. So I told them what I felt, “Nothing else happened. I’m really tired for no reason. It suckss!” Honey shakes his head in reply and Alice says, “Ah Honey thinks it’s because to have a good energy filled day, you must eat a good breakfast.” I sighed in defeat and plopped down on the rug in front of the television next to them. “Makes senses I guess…” I mumbled. Seeing me so deflated, Alice decided to play video games together to energize me, “Let’s play Mario Kart! We can all play at the same time!” With nothing better to do, I agreed even though I had no idea what Mario Kart was. “Here!” she say as she shoved a controller shaped like a wheel into my hands. “This is the first time I’m playing video games with someone…” The screen lit up in many bold colors as she navigated through the menus. I sat there in confusion and Honey notices so, he pats my shoulder to grab my attention. “Oh hey Honey. What’s up?” I asked. “Uh here’s how you play…..” he quietly says as he gestures to the controllers. “Wow this is the first time I heard him speak!” He quickly continues to teach me the basics as Alice sets up the first match. When the first round started I could feel the sudden tension in the room. Honey who is usually gentle is now surprisingly competitive and aggressive. Alice who is usually loud and bold is now quiet and fully concentrated. I smiled as I struggle through the first match. “Honey’s finally comfortable to speak with me and today I have seen new sides to these two.” The sound of the match ending greeted me with Honey looking proud while Alice cursing the world. She then turns to me and shouts, “Let’s get Honey back for getting first!” I chuckled and nodded. Alice satisfied with my answer turns her attention back towards the screen to start round two.

“Is this how it feels to be friends?”

The sky sings me a lullaby. The light so warm but it doesn't blind anymore.
It doesn't hurt but instead fills me with joy and content.

I now have the freedom to soar in the air.

This is now closed for judging!

Thank you all for entering, there are quite a few forms so please be patient while I'm judging - I expect it to be at least a week, probably longer, before I'm able to decide on winners. Thank you!
Have a good day y'all.

Good luck! I'm incredibly nervous haha
mostly inactive. i've grown out of CS, however, it will always be part of my story and i will always carry fond memories of this site. I have tried many times in recent to become active again, but it has been difficult to find that imaginative and childish spark I once had visiting this site. i wish everyone well and hope that you find fruitfulness on and off of CS <3 thank you for the wonderful 11 years, ciao!

First I'd like to apologize for the lack of updates - I was kind of hoping I wouldn't end up posting here until I had the results because I hate to get peoples' hopes up that I have them ready when they aren't. In the end I probably just should've posted an update sooner, and for that I apologize.

The school year starting up again has unfortunately really backlogged much of the work I'd expected to have ready by now, including this judging process. I'm teaching a grade level very different from previous years and it's been a lot of work getting myself prepared - I had to give priority to teaching first, and now as I've finished the first week of teaching, I'm coming back to fill in the blanks here on CS.

I had already begun the process of judging. Some elimination has been completed, though I do not currently have a winner. Thank you so much for all your hard work and patience with me, I want to give all your lovely forms the deep consideration and attention your hard work deserves. I fully intend to have winners for both competitions decided before Friday this week. Thank you all again for your participation and your patience, I'm really grateful for all of it.
Have a good day y'all.

Blossom Skies - Winners!

Postby Kyar » Thu Sep 19, 2019 6:07 am

I know I've said this before, but thank you all SO much for your patience while I completed the judging for this contest.

If I'm going to be honest, it was actually torturous for me to have to narrow down these forms at all. So many of you had incredible ideas, characters, and the worldbuilding in so many of these forms absolutely blew me away. It was immensely difficult for me to choose the winners, and rereading the forms a few times turned out to be a very time consuming, and almost more painful outcome. I sincerely hope that for those of you who didn't win, you won't let these INCREDIBLE characters go. I would absolutely love to see them paired with another character or kalon someday, because my gosh they're just wonderful. I feel like I got to know so many of your characters, and I don't want to lose them!

Please know that of the contests I've had to judge, I always say this, but truly, this has been by far the most difficult. The talent in this community is breathtaking and I want each and every one of you to know that forms short and long, decorated and simple, all of them were absolutely incredible. You should all be IMMENSELY proud of what you've created. I know it hurts not to be chosen as the winner but please know that I'd duplicate these kits a dozen times over if I had the ability - you all deserve the best, but sadly I can only send them home with one person.

I could talk for hours about what I loved about each form. After like four rounds of eliminations (my "short list" wasn't very short at first, lol), I wanted to acknowledge these forms as ones who really stood out and I felt like did a particularly good job of leaving me with a memorable, well-deveolped character (in no particular order):

Individual: Peppermint Mist, wucaian, Sugar Silkie~, Howling Dog, Grey_Hoodie
Partnered: Cheeb & lonk, 76heart & lavender towns, sentimental_android & bite sized kuiper (formerly Nekoma's Lion)

And now, the winning form for Blossom Skies is...
SilhouetteStation!

The development of your character for she-who-will-eventually-be-named-Paiea (lol) was so immersive and compelling, your worldbuilding connected so deeply with the growth and development of her character. I was really intrigued by the unfolding mystery, and while there are still some questions I have unanswered, that doesn't feel like a bad thing. I loved getting to experience her coming to an understanding of herself, and what matters to her - as well as her obligation to the world.

Thank you all SO much for entering, and for sharing your incredible ideas, artwork, writing, and coding/aesthetic-creating skills! It was so wonderful to get to experience all your characters, and I hope you are all very proud of what you've created!

If you'd like to hear my thoughts on your form specifically, please feel free to shoot me a PM or message me over on Discord! I really mean it when I say that I had an emotional connection with so many of your characters, but I can give more specifics on what you did well and where I might've felt like I was missing something, if you'd like!

Thank you all once again!
Have a good day y'all.
