Intake Report: Scarring & Malformation On Muzzle, Neck, Legs, & Tail | Missing Top Tail Spike | Missing Right Arm
"The team was at a loss for words when they first saw this poor queen walk out into the sunlight. Our more experienced members knew exactly where this Skepluvi came from right away - the tell all sign being a wire wrapped around their neck with their tag number still attached. That's all they had been to the terrible humans that used them - a number. The tag was easily tracked back to the exact location that this Skepluvi had lived in, likely for years on end; they had been used as a broadnurse for a slaughter facility across the boarder. It's a horrible illegal industry that broadnurses come from, where humans lock queens in farrier crates too small for them to even turn around in, and breed them back to back to sell their young into slaughter. It was not uncommon for broadnurses whom were too 'used up' to be sold off into the racing circuit to be used in mill breeding facilities that sold their offspring of as fancy 'purebred pets'. This darling Skepluvi was quickly sedated as they were unloaded from the trailer back at the sanctuary, and the wire bindings that had embedded into their skin were carefully removed by our veterinary team. After some stitches and a bit of recovery time, their scars began to heal up very well, with the unfortunate exception of their right arm - an infection had spread into the bone, and it was simply not realistic to hope the arm would be able to heal properly. The team made the decision to have it removed - thankfully, this did the trick and the infection was completely gone in just a few weeks. With all their damaged scar tissue, this Skepluvi is very sensitive about being touched, and though it's obvious they are curious and willing to interact with humans, their fear and pain makes it hard for them to trust others. Our staff is eagerly working on specialized leg braces and tacking that will allow the queen to walk and ride pain-free, but until the queen is tame and trusting of humans, they won't be able to wear their special gear. All they have seen of humans is cruelty and hatred, so it may take some time and a lot of patience (and plenty of treats) to earn this Skepluvi's trust. It's all up to you now!"
[Once tamed, this Skepluvi will be given specialized items.]
