Kalon Name: Nordlys (Northern Light in Norwegian)
Gender: Female
Prompt Response: Nordlys was made from colourful light, living on the Aurora borealis and showing up every night. But, more than anything else she wanted to see the world above the sky. So she went to her dad, the God of Cosmos and begged him to let her go on earth. His dad looked at her, disappointed.
"Is this what you really desire, my daughter?" he asked, even if he knew already what her answer will be.
"Yes, father" said Nordlys.
"Are you aware that once you go down on the earth, you can never return here? Celestial creatures can convert into mortals, but mortals cannot be converted into celestias."
Nordlys never thought of this. Her father was right, but her desire to see the world of mortals was even stronger than her will to remain there. When she definitely made up her mind, she looked into her father's eyes and said determined:
"Yes father, I will go. While I stayed here, I had everything I wanted, but this is the only way I can follow my biggest dream. This is what I have to do, I will never forget my family, and the place I grew up in. Goodbye!"
And Nordlys left the sky forever.

When she woke up, she was completely surprised of the strange place she was in: everything around her was white, and a new feeling overwhelmed her: she was freezing. When Nordlys got up, she noticed her new body: covered in fur, painted with the lights of Aurora Borealis. She never had a body before, so she was really curious of this. Near her, buried in snow, she found a lantern with a message: "A scrap of celestial light. We will never forget you, my daughter."
Then, Nordlys realised she won't be able to return home from now and that she will probably die if she's just staying there. Sad, she took the lantern, the only memory she had left from her old home, from her family, and started her journey in this new world.

Prompt Response: Maya approached the latern that shone in the dead of the winter night. She had been lost within the pines for quite sometime. She felt a glimmer of hope that someone would be around, someone that would know the way out of the thick forest.

Unfortunately nobody seemed to be around after what seemed to be hours of standing around. Maybe she could just borrow the latern, it could help her find her way out and provide warmth.

And so she took the latern and placed securely around her tail and used it to provide her the warmth and light she needed until she found her way out of the forest. She keeps the latern around her tail and promised she would never remove it for it saved her life.

Prompt Response:
Aspire has always seen a lantern in the darkness of the woods, why was she the only one who could see this lantern? She grew more and more curious about this strange lantern, as her curiosity grew, she became more eager to find out what the lantern meant. A few years later, Aspire kept seeing the lantern, that night she decided to investigate the lantern.
She snuck downstairs and headed out the front door, the wind howled and moan, the tree branches rustled and the moon lit the path. As Aspire grew closer to the lantern a sudden cackle startled her! She looked around, but saw no one, suddenly a raspy, chill voice said, "hello Aspire. Welcome to the night lantern occult." Aspire had a confuse look on her face, " I see you are confused. Your family is part of the Night Lantern occult. We are a group of Kalons that carry a lantern around their tail. Our goal is summon Lucifer to start the apocalypse. Our one goal is to rule the world and bring chaos into this world. Are you finally ready to join us? "

To be continued....

Username: Diamond Sapphire | Kalon Name: Ilona | Gender: Female

    Prompt Response:
Ilona signed up to be a witch’s apprentice. What she did not agree to was to wake up in the middle of the night to a horribly bright light that was being emitted from her window.

If it were any other day, Ilona would’ve passively assumed her mentor was trying out new recipes, spells or tricks. She was a busy person, and she’d stay up all night to test her new findings, causing her to be in quite the sour mood in the morning. But today, Ilona’s mentor had gone off to stay the night at the village to stock up on a couple of materials, leaving the home up to Ilona. So a stupidly irritating light disturbing her precious sleep caused some suspicious to crawl onto Ilona.

She tried ignoring it for the time being, going under the thick covers and sweating herself to sleep. She eventually gave up when she heard a series of loud thuds coming from the back, and decided it was time to see what idiot was ruining her sleep.

Sliding on a pair of worn out sneakers and grabbing her wand for extra precaution (but mostly to intimidate — casting spells while half sleeping wasn’t ever a good idea). She hesitated for a moment before grabbing a sticky note from her drawer and jotting down a quick message before slapping it on her desk.

If you can’t find me, blame the weird light. Couldn’t sleep. I didn’t want to wake up in the morning with a mood like yours.

Ilona reread the note with weary eyes, and letting out a half-hearted scoff. With a hurried yawn, she swiftly padded down the stairs after hearing another thud erupt from the backyard. Whatever this person, or creature, was doing, they appeared to hold absolutely 0 braincells and 0 respect for the person who occupied the home they were near.

Once Ilona reached the back door, she clutched her wand even tighter, even if she had no intention of using it. Her hands felt clammy and her vision was adjusting to the bright light that seeped through the windows was being illuminated within the walls of the house. Ilona began to reconsider trying to take on whoever was out there alone, but she’s done dumber, most likely.

Preparing a fierce snarl, she kicked the backyard door open (sorry, mentor) and pointed her wand at the source of light. Ilona liked to think she looked rather menacing, but it looked exactly like what it should have — a tired apprentice who woke up and made a horrible decision. Lucky for her, the only out of place things she saw with her eyes was a lantern, and an unusually small and lithe canine-like creature, likely a little shorter than Ilona’s shoulders. They appeared to be wearing a tool belt of sorts, but besides that, didn’t look threatening at all. In fact, they looked just about irritated as Ilona was.

”What the— who are you? What are you?” Ilona muttered. The creature’s gaze flew onto Ilona and threw up their hands, as if almost on instinct. Their eyes were wide with both worry and shock, and they began to slowly slide one of their paws towards their tool belt. Ilona jumped before frantically lowering her wand. ”Oh! Oh yikes, no, sorry. I don’t mean to harm you in any way, please don’t kill me.” The creature’s paw paused from reaching their destination, and let out what Ilona assumed was a snort.

”You were the one who pointed first.” They grumbled, picking up their lantern and holding it up to around Ilona’s level. Or at least, what they could manage with their short legs.

”Y-you can talk?” Ilona sputtered, squinting as the bright light hit her face.

”Yeah? Is that surprising?” The creature huffed. The sound of rough pawsteps and heavy huffs filled both of their ears, and the creature with the lantern quickly fumbled around their tool belt before selecting an item and chucking it behind them. There was a whine, and the pawsteps abruptly faded. What was left was a thick cloud of bright blue smoke billowing behind the creature.

”Wh—?? You got 30 seconds to explain.” Ilona demanded harshly. She stuck her wand up again, but this time the creature didn’t react aggressively.

”You needa learn how to chill, goodness!” They yelped. With a defeated sigh, they nodded subtly. ”M’name’s Calla! I'm sorta like your average dog, but way cooler. These things right here...” They intently patted their tool belt. ”Are my mini grenades! They mostly emit fairydust and a couple other organic things, but don’t do any real harm. But my precise aim often makes it so I accidentally hit my target on the head with these.” Calla scoffed, likely remembering the sharp whine from the other being moments ago.

”Yeah, but that doesn’t explain why you’re on my mentor’s property with your fairydust grenades and stupidly bright lamp.” Ilona growled, her eyes narrowing, though it was more of a squint to protect herself from Calla’s lantern.

”I was running low on some herbs and this place just happens to have some. Not my fault your mentor decided to live somewhere where there’s tons of cool plants.” Calla shrugged, lowering her lantern out of pity so Ilona didn’t go blind. ”But then these annoying mutated coyote looking creatures came outta nowhere and disturbed my forage, and I gotta protect my poor fur, y’know? I heard light usually scares em off, hence my awfully bright lantern, but some seem a bit desperate tonight.”

”My mentor is a witch, you imbecile. Of course she’d live here. And you’re disturbing my sleep.” Ilona sighed, letting a long yawn escape her. ”So finish up your collecting and get out of my sight. These coyote mutants only like the taste of canine blood, lucky for me. Sucks to be you.”

”Calm it with the insults, yeah?” Calla replied, attempting to smother a laugh. ”And nuh-uh. Witch, you say? You see, I’ve got quite the arrangement of spells in my little book here I’d be willing to share!” Calla pointed to a little pack on her tool belt Ilona didn’t notice before. Calla slowly pulled out a leather book, beaming proudly at the sight. ”Valuable ones, indeed! While my kind is unable to use as much magic as you can, I still write down all sorts of rare spells from passed down generations. And since I’m feeling extra nice this fine night, I’d be willing to share with your mentor in exchange for a place to stay!”

If Ilona was drinking something right now, she’d certainly spit it out. She processed it for a moment, watching Calla shoo off another mutant coyote with her fairydust grenade before scoffing. ”My mentor won’t be back until the morning. I can’t decide for her.” Ilona frowned, but then Calla shrugged.

”Dang, your loss. You can go back inside then as I keep you up the entire night with my lantern and grenades. Plus, imagine all the spells you’d be missing out on!” Calla blustered with another shrug. Ilona bristled slightly, before stomping her foot on the ground and letting out a long, defeated huff.

”Fine! You can stay the night, but when my mentor comes back it’s ultimately her decision if she wants you here or not.” Ilona decided, already turning her heel to head back inside. Calla’s eyes lit up and sparkled, hurrying over towards Ilona.

”Ah, sweet! You won’t regret it — I got some pretty useful stuff in here!” Calla grinned, and Ilona’s face went unimpressed.

”Mhm. And can you put out that bothersome lantern of yours? I swear I’m gonna go blind.” Ilona asked with squinted eyes, beckoning Calla inside and trying her best to close the door she half-broke earlier.

Calla followed inside, but froze. She let out a couple nervous chuckles, bringing the lantern up to her head and pointing at it. ”Well, uh. Honestly I have no clue how to put these out. They’re made from a special material and it’s supposed go out on it’s own... in a few hours.” Calla admitted timidly.

Ilona forced herself to not smash the door in pieces. ”Well there goes my sleep.”

footnotes wrote:don’t worry ilona’s mentor allowed calla to stay :^)
i like to think calla gave ilona her lantern afterwards as a gift and was like “here you go, just to remind you of the day i ruined your sleep schedule thank me later”
sorry if there’s any mistakes! i finished this at 4am n i’m ready to pass out

Prompt Response:

I was alone, I didn't know really where I was nor who I was...
I woke in the night to the sound of clinking, and when I opened my eyes I saw a pile of lanterns in front of me and an elderly kalon sitting on the other side of them.
She had asked why I was alone in the forest at night, but I couldn't give her much of an answer. I had hit my head pretty hard, probably from running through the forest, but what was I running from?
She offered for me to come stay the night at her house, instead of me sleeping in the cold damp forest.
The following morning she made breakfast for me, and we got to know each other more.
Her name was Diane, and she was the kindest kalon you could ever meet.

She helped me look for my family, but to no avail. We searched high and low, but nobody knew who I was.
On the way back to her house I was troubled and scared, feeling like a hadn't a home to go back to nor a family to call my own.
She could sense it and stopped me before tying one of her lanterns on my tail. She looked at me with the kindest eyes and spoke with the softest voice, and told me that the lantern will shine for me wherever I go, so that the darkness and overwhelming fear wouldn't consume me and that I was safe.
It was also her way of letting me know that I was welcome to stay with her, for as long as I wanted or needed.
She never said it, but you could just feel it.

After a couple years had gone by, I had already felt like a daughter to her over that time. Pretty much since she took me in.
It was June, and Diane had wanted to show me a special garden that she tends to, and thought I was ready to care for it as well.
We hiked though the woods and past through a few curtains of ivy, and there in the middle of the small area surrounded by stone was glowing flowers.
This was the garden she wanted to show me, and told me of the flower's properties, that they glow for many years, some as long as ten.
She then told me of how she places the ball from the center of these flowers in the lanterns she creates, and uses the petals to color the glass of the lantern.
She also told me that she had just finished tending to the garden and was on her way home when she found me that night in the woods.
It felt like destiny that we met to her, and that the lantern she gave me had my colors, all the more feeling like we were meant to be a family.

As a few more years had passed, I had lost her to cancer. She was so strong, and so happy, you almost couldn't tell what she was going through.
It was the saddest day of my life, and I was scared and alone once again, but I looked at my lantern and remembered that as long is glows the darkness and overwhelming fear wouldn't consume me. It gave me hope and I and life again.
With the wonderful memory of her, I carried on as she would want me to.
I continued to care for the special garden and made lanterns for others who were struggling in the fear and darkness as i was, it gave them hope and lessened their fears.
That's what she did for others, and that's exactly what I'm going to do as well, I want to be just like the wonderful kalon who loved and cared for me.
I love and miss you Diane, the only mother I ever knew.
