Broken sunlight rays flooded the stone structure where Franklin sat, legs hanging over the chair arm. The soft strum of an old guitar and a soft voice filled the morning air. Suddenly a heavy voice broke the peace the morning held,

Show Name: (No Idea what to go with, lol)
Barn Name: Matilda or Mattie
Gender: mare
Halter: something to match her eyes
Mate: https://tippingranch.weebly.com/im-only ... color.html
How did they meet?:

It was a drizzly afternoon, Matilda had planned to take cover under the wide branches of the pine trees that grew close together in a spot not far from her favorite grazing spot. It was a good thing she chose to find a place to hide out from rain right before the weather picked up, the bay was enjoying her spot as she watched the rain starting to come down harder when she saw an all black horses racing right towards her!
The bay looked nervous the closer the other horse got to her as he didn't look like he was going to slow his sprinting pace, only a couple feet from the patch of trees did he finally slow his pace. Ozzy didn't hesitate to push his way into the space protected by the pine trees save for a few fat droplets that managed to drip down every now and then.
Mattie stared at Ozzy as he let out a big sigh as he lowered his head and looked about ready to fall asleep right where he stood. "Excuse me? I hope it's not too rude to ask but.. What was that all about?" The black horse looked confused as he perked up and widened his eyes as the mare finally came into view.
"Oh, sorry! I didn't realize someone was already hiding here."
"Hiding? From what? What is there to hide from?"
The answers that Ozzy gave her just left her more confused than before, the rain was just rain. He must have realized that she was staring at him as if he was nuts causing him to chuckle. "I'm hiding from my owner, she has a habit of taking us in on rainy days like this. Sometimes it's not so bad but I couldn't risk not being to enjoy the day outside so I'm hiding until she gets tired of looking."
Mattie decided that sounded like a fairly believable, albeit strange reason to charge up on her without as much as a hello before barging into her space. "I suppose that makes sense. I guess waiting here is your best chance at not being found. You practically blend into the shadows.. uh.."
Silence between them grew for a moment before Ozzy quickly nodded his head. "Ozzy, Prince of Darkness- I mean, pleasure to meet you." The black stallion paused as he waited for the mare to offer up her own name. "Mattie."
"It's very nice to meet you Mattie, I hope you don't mind sharing your hiding spot with me."
Mattie couldn't help but smile a little bit as she turned to see a human walking in the distance near the fenceline, obviously looking for more stragglers to catch or possibly just looking for the black horse that stood beside her. "I suppose it's a pleasure to meet you too. I feel a bit bad for your owner, she looks worried for you."
Ozzy and Mattie watched Ozzy's owner give up the search and head back out of sight, it would have been cool in the shade but as they stood and enjoyed the weather together they took comfort in their shared body heat at the same time.

    How did they meet?:
The sun was shining, the birds singing their sweet songs in the trees above the stable block. Inside, in the bright, beautiful building, the sounds of distress could be heard. Hooffalls padding through straw, pacing back and forth, accompanying the shrill calls of the heartbreak within.
The colt, shy and quiet, rarely before opening his mouth, called and called, begging the humans to bring back his mother. They had told him that he was old enough now, that he didn’t need her milk anymore, but he’d happily not drink from her if they’d let him go to her. He hadn’t made many friends... Okay, any friends, in his early days, and so he had no one to turn to for company, no one but his mother. And now, they had separated them, leaving the colt alone in the stable block while his mother was probably outside with her mare friends.
After what felt like an eternity, even though the sun had barely moved across the sky, the colt resigned to buckling his knees, laying on the soft bedding below. Resting his muzzle onto the shavings below him, he resigned to a low sigh, allowing his eyes to flit shut.
A pleasant, gentle nicker reached his ears, and, in confusion, he raised his head, and then himself, lower half and dark muzzle now covered in shavings. With long legs and a neck that he still hadn’t grown into, he was able to see over the tall door of the stall, blue eyes searching the aisle for the owner of the sweet voice.
Across the aisle, barely reaching over the door of the stall, was a velvety, brownish muzzle, pale spot of pinkish markings decorating the lips. Reddish ears, too big for their head, pricked towards him, bright green eyes studying the colt carefully. Tilting his head, longing to pull himself back from the interaction with the stranger, the foal opposite, straining to make themself tall enough to look over the stall door, whickered to him, eyes burning with curiosity and kindness.
It made him feel like this was okay. Nickering back, allowing his ears to prick towards them, he stretched over as far as he could, breathing in to try to catch their scent. The other foal pulled themself back, causing Ned to snap his head back, hurt swimming through his eyes. However, his ears pricked back forward as the reddish foal, determination clear on their features appeared again. Tilting his head as he watched, he saw them hook their front hooves over the stable door, and, with a groan of effort, launched themself over the stable door. When they landed, their hind legs were still hooked on the door, but with a well-practiced wriggle, the other foal was free, shaking out her red pelt, with a satisfied snort. Pricking up their ears, stepping daintily across the aisle, they approached, nose extended to greet him.
Shyness suddenly overcame him, and he longed to retreat back into the stall, to keep himself to himself as he always had. But, all-too-suddenly, they were upon him, muzzle bumping gently against his own. Her scent was sweet, like the nicest grass that he could ever imagine, and, as the velvety hairs of her muzzle tickled his own, he felt a soft nicker rumble from his chest, welcoming her attentions. She seemed to be the same age as him, perhaps recently pulled from her mother as well. Suddenly, a painful nip landed on his muzzle, and he reeled backwards, shooting rear-first into his stall. Betrayal and hurt shone through his blue eyes, but was replaced with amusement as, suddenly, she was clambouring over his stall door too.
With no barriers between them now, Ned wasn’t quite sure what to do. He hadn’t been one for playing with others, but it seemed that she didn’t want to play. Striding towards him, her green eyes sparking with joy, she rested her head against his shoulder, sighing contentedly. Unsure of what to do, Ned mirrored her movement, resting his own chin on her withers.
When the humans came, they found the pair, dozing in the afternoon warmth, bodies curled together.

But, their friendship did not last long. Just before their first birthdays, the pair were sold, separated to different homes.
Ned passed through several homes as he grew, remaining just as shy and timid as he had been as a colt. One morning, just like so many times before, he and all of his things were loaded into a trailer, off to a new home. And, just as several times before, he unloaded from the trailer, head low, eyes worried, tail whipping anxiously. There were many smells here, lots of sounds and sights, plenty of things to make him nervous.
“Yeah, he’s a ball of nerves,” the man holding his leadrope laughed, “He’ll never give you any trouble, that’s for sure.”
As he was lead through the stable block, brought to his new home, something crosses his muzzle, a scent, like sweet grass. He stopped, causing the human leading him to tug on his leadrope gently, but he couldn’t move, not believing what his nose was telling him.
“Hey, buddy...” The human murmured, reaching for his nose to stroke it, but he moved away with a soft whicker. Blue eyes searched the stables before him, and a few heads peeped over their stall doors - none of them interesting him. But, at the very end of the stable building, green eyes as bright as they had been seven years ago, he saw her peek her head over. For a moment, her expression remained blank, but soon her eyes lit up, a soft whinny rolling from her lips. Powering forward, Ned forgot about the human holding his leadrope as he trotted eagerly down the stable aisle, shoving his head into her neck as she did the same. Tugging at her mane playfully, earning a nip in response, Ned thought that he may have been dreaming.
He had found his best friend, and he'd never allow them to be separated again.
