Rain Splash's heart pounded deeply and his head floated higher and higher as he tried to steady his breathe. He was doing his best not to focus on it, but the more he caught himself thinking of it, the more he felt queasy.
Cricket, a curious apprentice who went hunting with Rain Splash, was swept off his paws on the beach from standing too close to the shore. The strong waves dragged the little cat and brutally slammed him back to shore on some jagged rocks. The wide, jagged cut along his shoulder down to his hip was going to leave an ugly scar and his twisted paw seemed like a lost cause. Cricket's poor gray pelt was drenched in ocean water and blood.
Blood.
It settled heavy in Rain Splash, especially cat's blood since it never seemed appetizing like prey's blood. The sight and smell builded nausea for the silver tom. Minor cuts and scratches were 'okay' territory, but something severe like this made Rain Splash nearly faint. The silver tabby tom wants to quench his fear of blood, but it all needed small steps. And the current situation seemed like too much of a big leap.
But Rain Splash knows what's ahead in the future. There is going to be lots of blood in the future, and he needs to be prepared to deal with it. He was determined to mark that statement by helping Cricket until he could be brought to the healer. The little tom stared up at him with painful eyes but gave a determined smile that was enough to motivate Rain Splash into focusing, ignore how much blood soaked into his paws and filled his nose.
Leaf and Mangō were present in helping and had hoisted Cricket onto Mangō's back for transport. Even though he winced in pain, Rain Splash noticed how Cricket barely whimpered and kept a brave face. The little apprentice even made a comment about how he'll have a cool scar to show off just like Mangō, who nodded in agreement.
They quickly made for home so they could reach the healer's den. Mangō had taken the lead, speaking in soft tones to Cricket, who was clinging to his back. Rain Splash trotted some paces behind just as Leaf brushed past him. The brown tabby she-cat gave him a warm smile as her eyes glittered in admiration before catching up to Mangō and Cricket. It made Rain Splash feel warm inside. It made him feel like he still had time to improve.
